I like fighting against other players for the sake of fighting. The combat is fun and challenging, exhilarating even.

Problem is, there's diddly rewards. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Rien. Quetchi. Players don't even drop mats when they're killed, unlike NPCs. For this reason I can't vote in this poll. I like the fight, but I hate that there's absolutely nothing to show for it.

Just curious. Looking for the general feeling on this Forum.

No, not particularly interested in PvP in any game, including ED.
I have shelves, real and virtual (Steam), filled with famous games with a multiplayer/PvP component.
I never push the multiplayer button in any game.

I do not like PPPPvP

Yeah, agreed. Do not mind a confrontation in open once in a while even though I do not care about PvP whatsoever, but I do not enjoy fighting against a player wing consisting of engineered Corvettes and FDL.

I don't really care for PvP either, although I play exclusively in open, but I recognize balance is fairly borked for PvPers despite the constant effort from FD at balancing it all.

Problem I have with this, is that while trying to please everyone and balance a PvP centric aspect of things, the PvE aspect suffers as well in the end.
At least, this is how I feel about it, not saying this is how it is.

I like bananas...does that help?
Humans leak fluids too much so I don't really PvP...I would feel bad if I inadvertently made someone quit the game.
Sad state of affairs...but humanity is weak these days.

So I just kill the NPC's..they don't whine so much.

Messing with the weapons was always gonna cause issues with PvP, I was against it before it dropped and even some of the best PvP players are complaining about it.
It'll prolly get balanced but then there'll be questions about if upgrading is actually worth it.

Repped for describing my experiences with Silent Hunter 3 & 4 perfectly. I still have 4 on my HDD, and occasionally still play it. Brilliant game.

Wow silent hunter there is a fab franchise which I would certainly consider looking at if they did a new one ring back to the very 1st game on my amiga

Actually just did my Googlefoo and it seems it was silent service I played

Can't stand PvP myself. Most of my games aren't combat oriented.

I've no problem with people immersing themselves in PvP, but I've tried it, and it's not for me.

Cheers, Phos.

That is another thing where pve games have an advantage. There is no need to waste hrs on balancing with pve indeed straight out upgrades are part of pve games. PvP are all about balance and sidegrades which makes for a rubbish pve game imo. If FD spent as much h time balancing like say in a game like warthunder it would be to the detriment of pve imo.

This exactly what I was trying to get to earlier on...
Thanks for putting it in english for me!

There's a lot of posts here which seem to suggest that PVP is some kind of rich boys game which is unbalanced and entirely populated by end game players who simply gank other players. There's a bit of truth in this but just a few days ago there was a fantastic vid of a guy in a DBS who killed a Corvette commander with the new shield breaker torps. Even as a newbie it's possible to have fun with PVP by fighting other newbies. I still recall very fondly fighting viper commanders in my cobra and it still happens I'm sure. I think most of this talk simply comes from either inexperience or experiences which are limited to encountering PVP players as a PVEer.

A lot of people view PVP from a purely PVE perspective with the sole experience being "that one time two guys ganked me at the CG". The reality is that ganking and seal clubbing is a subset of PVP practiced by a few bottom feeders.. a great deal of PVP in the main game involves people who are well up for it and fight each other on a regular basis. I have never encountered a game with such fun PVP as ED.

This whole "If you like PVP go play CQC" argument is hot air too, are you people not aware that the top CQC players are virtually all people that enjoy PVP in the main game? Whenever I go on there it's the same 7/8 guys playing and I know they all play PVP in the main game too. It's good as a training simulator but many enjoy the risk and loadout specializations of the main game.

Fair points too

For me it depends on what PvP it is. You get PvP when someone wantsl to kill you for no reason which I am not interested in, and then you get the PvP with some kind of meaning, like a Pirate interdicts you and roleplay being an actual pirate, now that I don't mind and find fun.

I actually quite like brussel sprouts... as long as they still have a good crunch about them.

Nothing worse than a soggy sprout!

Wow, talk about differing 'gameplay preferences'. I'm the exact opposite; the softer my Brussels sprouts, the better. Oh, and serve them with sautéed mushrooms please. :)

CQC = Yes

Open = Depends

I think the opportunity for really good open pvp went down the drain when the idea for all gameplay modes to connect to the BGS happened. The main reason for me wanting to do open pvp was mostly to do with power play.

I like PvP in games that are designed around PvP, ED isn't one of them.

+1 This is exactly it. PvP in a PvP game is fun. But in a Space Trading,
Strategy, Exploration game PvP is not relevant, except as a side game that can be played occasionally. Or to add occasional drama
and excitement and certainly not insta-death PvP.

I don't like PVP outside of CQC in ED. The main problem lies in the fact that the loser has a big disadvantage and I don't feel good to attack someone who will suffer severe drawback when he lost. I got no problem at all to cover 30,000,000 Cr insurance on my ships, but other people do. That's not fair in my eyes. Moreover we are all members of the pilot's federation, where is the intent to attack each other? (except the occasional black sheep in our own ranks I see no RP reason for PVP)
