Dodging NPC pirates by relogging

lolwut

A6 shield + 3 c3 pulse -> bonus credits in bounties > credits earned by investing into cargo instead

Actually, in my experience you're wrong there. A6 shield = 64t in cargo. In imperial slaves, that's around 170,000 credits. Typical bounties seems to be 5,000-50,000 cr. Definitely not worth the trade-off financially. Not including impact to weight, power, etc, as well.
More fun, yes. More profitable, no.

This thread is why your ship should be kept active in the game for several minutes after quitting...
I guess if you need pie in the sky fantasies, that's as good as any. It's never going to happen. What fun for explorers. Log off and just cross your fingers that your now playerless ship isn't instanced with anyone entering the system, or npc's aren't generated after log off? Wow, that sounds like fun...or not.

A6 shield generator weights 40 tons. You'll save 26 tons, gain added security, more fun. If you trade somewhere where powerplay gets you a multiplier on bounties that's going to come very close.

And who hauls slaves in a Python anyway? There's much more fun to be had with cargo missions, as you can land on outposts. Slaves will be transported often enough in your Anaconda/Cutter/Clipper.

(Min/maxing a multirole ship, ewww :p)

I wasn't aware of multipliers on bounties from powerplay, I'll look that up.

Re: outposts, I was on a trade loop between 2 outposts, generating ~1m cr per round trip, so it was at least lucrative and faster trading between outposts than full-on stations :)

When I was running a trading Python I always had an A3 shield fitted which is big enough while you swat those pesky Eagles with your 2 x 3E Burst turrets and also big enough to hold out while you escape if it was an Anaconda that interdicted you. With a size 3 shield you are only losing 8 cargo.

Yeah, that's more in line with what I'd want to try. Thanks for the anecdotal evidence that it's good enough light combat and/or escape :)

My Python earns 6 million per hour in a RES. I used to do a trade that was 750,000 per 10 minutes, but it's boring.

I recorded 30 minutes of footage and netted 3 million. This includes flying to and from the site.

How many NPCs did you kill in that 30 min? What was the average bounty?

Were you earning multipliers on the bounties, or is that straight up reward?

Do bounty levels change based on your rank?

Sorry for the game of "Twenty questions", but I'm truly curious

... Logging off to avoid combat is "combat logging".

Logging out properly BEFORE combat (or logging out properly (15 second timer) while in combat) is cheap but it is not "combat logging".
Frontier punish actual "combat logging" and this is not it, killing the game exe (or stopping your network) while "in combat" is combat logging.

Doing that cheap trick while using a Python (one of the best combat traders) is darn right disgraceful and the OP should be ashamed of themselves, but it is not "combat logging". Even 3x Size 3 Pulse Turrets and a small shield would be more than enough to fight off a lot of would be NPC pirates.

Combat is more than just the shooting. When a ship is positioning itself to interdict, in my mind the combat has already started.

I just got a Python and I'm trading to build up the money to outfit for combat and I submit and I always get away from interdictions by NPCs. I've a 3A shield, mostly D mods with B rated plant and FSD.
I scan who's interdicting me and I can destroy them if they are smaller or not a wing. I also never take a straight line to my destination and loop around to keep them off my 6.

Drop out of SC this is the way I play when in danger, always in open & never log off.

FD watch for that I think.

This is a fair mechanic in my opinion as it is a part of the game, and makes some sense. What the OP is doing is cheap and cheating the game, and in a way themselves as well.

Yeah, I'm going to try 3A shield next time. Didn't realize until yesterday that I could drastically downgrade shields as alternative to simply removing

Sometimes I get disconnected from the server after a jump or interdiction/interdicted and it has something to do with loading the new instance. The same goes with dropping into a station instance sometimes a disconnect is forced and I don't know why. Until that is fixed which I highly doubt I don't understand why there would be a punishment. It really screws up professions and that might be why FD didn't expand on them when everyone was complaining about update directions.

I don't reconnect to get different missions. I don't reconnect to avoid PvP. I don't reconnect to teleport out of stations but I've seen players that do pretty constantly. I will drop out of Scruise to avoid interaction if I feel my ship is not correctly configured. I think that adds value to the wake scanner and is completely fair because you have to throttle down first or emergency drop as a tradeoff.

There are many online multiplayer games that rely on connectivity but unfortunately it's rare to find perfect long term sessions in any of them. This is why most games that have implemented a punishment for disconnects I stopped playing. There are just too many factors outside of a players control that can cause the disconnect and one of them I'm certain are other players forcing you to disconnect. My worry is that a punishment would be implemented and then other players would force you to disconnect after interdiction using packet spam or another form of ddos eventually getting your account temp banned for disconnects you had no control over. I've seen it in other games and I would not like to see it happen with Elite.
