Dodging NPC pirates by relogging

No because they have stated that switching to get mission refresh is not an exploit but combat logging is and they said it is a concern in any mode

That thread from FDev was actually linked in this thread, and they were considering explicitly using Alt-F4 / force quit, to be an exploit during combat.
No mention of logging off prior to interdiction.

EDIT: And has also been posted in this thread, someone even complained to FDev support about people logging off using in-game means, during actual combat (meaning 15-sec timer). FDev stated nothing to be done, they did nothing wrong.

You log off prior to combat before interdiction?

Sorry, I misread...I retract all my arguements and any negative tone towards you.
I do not feel this is "combat" logging since you are not in combat yet.

Sorry for jumping back into the convo, but I stand corrected CMDR Intel..

Mucho apologies!

Hahaha, yes, people started using the term "combat logging", and every1 jumped on that bandwagon.
I and others have clarified, I'm logging off prior to an interdiction even starting. I see the NPC say something like "I'm coming for you" or whatever, in chat (in Supercruise), so I would drop out, since I have no shields/no weps.

Np, I figure half of this thread's vitriol is due to misunderstanding. Though it seems some people understood and still take issue with it.

Give me a shout if you ever need a wing man in open...I would be happy to help make sure you have a safe trip.

Even if you waited until combat has begun, using the timer is your prerogative. Some players might not like it, but using the timer to gracefully exit is not combat logging per FD. So the question is: Do you care what other players (who probably already hate you for playing in Mobius) think? I know that I do not.

+1, you made my day.

You may be right...perhaps the timer needs to be increased so people do not or can not use it to avoid conflict...because Im almost sure FD does not want a mechinism that will avoid intended game play.
If this was the case, a "logout" button would be present on our hud or could be bound to a button on out flight stick.
Just doesnt seem like a system that was meant to work this way...to avoid combat.

I'm not searching for quotes this time, but the 15sec has been addressed, and Frontier has declined to entertain the idea of making it longer. At the end of the day, it's just a game, and burdensome timers would have far reaching effects outside of combat. It would make quitting every session a pain in the rear, especially for explorers who rarely log out in stations. Little things like that make and break games. I rarely play Shadows of Mordor anymore because the long load time with 4k textures annoys me to no end. I cannot imagine what it's like for those who play that game on an actual hard drive. They must have time to make coffee and donuts from scratch.

Like I said, I have no dog in this fight...its not my problem or the player base.
its up to FD to set the rules and enforce them...if they wish and allow people to use the timer in this matter, its no ones concern but FDs.
If it creates an imbalance in the game some how, its our choice to log in and play or not.

I "combat logged" once. Well it was sort of combat logging. An NPC tried to pass me in the slot and ended up jamming us both in there and I got the 'trespass' or loitering warning and I could not move so I logged out. I took the attitude I was not at fault so ........ I still feel a bit bad about it though but that is just me I guess.

I hear you man. I haven't fitted a weapon in ages. Your post has managed to attract scores of posters who think they know how to play YOUR GAME better than you do. Play however it is that you like to play within the confines that Frontier has laid out, and ignore the players who keep pushing their secret house rules.

I played solo in a weaponless T6 for ages. I don't think I know his game, I actually played it - except that I ponied up for shields rather than get greedy about every last slot dedicated to cargo, AND I never logged out to avoid pirates. I'm not concerned that he plays shieldless and weaponless, just appalled that he wimped out by combat logging against an NPC pirate of all things given that the a T6 can outrun nearly every pirate IF it has shields and proper thrusters/distributor.

I was doing some heavy trading this weekend in a Python. Because it's a Python, obviously I can't outrun most pirates.
I wasn't running any shields, didn't have any weapons (well, I left the 2 default lasers, but that would only further upset an NPC), and using default hull (the hull upgrades are so expensive, meh).

As a result, it means I'm pretty much a sitting duck in case of pirate attack.

The solution I found, is to drop to start menu, and log back in, when I see that I'm about to get interdicted. I don't *always* make it in time (sometimes they attack before I have any speed in SC), in which case I immediately submit and boost until I can jump out, but that usually guarantees 5-20% hull damage depending on the intensity of their attack.

The drop to start menu also has the added benefit of not seeing any NPC pirates for a decent while (usually), which is nice.

Anyone else do this? BTW, I play in Private w/ Moebius group, PVE-only, so it's only NPC pirates that I'm worried about w/ this setup.

TL;DR - I'm logging off before interdiction even begins. So it's not combat logging. And it's not an exploit, as defined by FDev, as I'm logging out using the in-game mechanism. This is all because I was in a kit w/ no shields, no weps, not configured for combat at all.
It's discussed many times in the thread due to others not actually reading my thread and subsequent posts...

Also, I'm only doing this against NPCs in a PvE-only group.
WOW.....
Combat logging from NPC's..... That's a first. Sad really! Maybe FD needs to start Shadow banning players for this.

You arrived a little late at the party. And shadow banning players for this..?

This thread is why your ship should be kept active in the game for several minutes after quitting... single player included. And for single player, when you log back in, it should automatically compute if you survive or not based on what was happening prior to logoff. Most of the time it should show you a insurance screen if you were in combat or close to it.

Sorry, but what the OP is doing is abusing a mechanic of this game to exploit his way to bigger riches which could (or could not) be used to give him better stuff to bring to Open play with.

Well done sir! Not that I do or agree with your style of play, but I like to back the little guy and the pvp club (even though your not apart of it) will just love you... ;)

Awesome stuff! :)
