Dodging NPC pirates by relogging

Don't spread disinformation. He's in no trouble whatsoever. FD has made it clear that they consider logging out via the menu, even in the middle of combat to be in their words, a graceful exit. Frontier has been equally clear that cutting the connection and force quitting are the only methods of logging off that they consider to be an exploit. Your comments should be removed lest they be believed by someone who doesn't know any better.

It is not combat logging in Frontier's eyes (the only ones that matter) if you log out via the menu. It does however somehow manage to offend a substantial number of pvp fanatics who are certain that their way is the only way, and I'm just fine with that. Let them stay offended.

Got a link Cowboy?

Yep, no shield and no real armament, no way I'm going to try to fight with that kit.
I hear you man. I haven't fitted a weapon in ages. Your post has managed to attract scores of posters who think they know how to play YOUR GAME better than you do. Play however it is that you like to play within the confines that Frontier has laid out, and ignore the players who keep pushing their secret house rules.

Intel, what your current status, what level of combat are you at, how long you been playing

Ha, I *just* added Inara signature that has my rankings.
I've been playing for about a month or so, primarily weekends when the wife doesn't have other plans for me.

I actually didnt see anything in that link that said that logging out during combat was ok to do.
It addressed the F4-Alt cut out of the game...not logging out during combat.

Let me ask you Cowboy...do you really think logging out to avoid combat is a viable game play mechanic that FD wants players to perform?

I can just imagine 70-90% of our player base logging out everytime they get interdicted or in a combat situaion they dont like.
This is not good for the over all game.

They clarified specifically what combat logging is considered to be, that the "exploit" they're looking at, is when people quit the game entirely.
Their obvious workaround to log-off during combat is to introduce a timer. I'm not even in combat (or interdiction) when I'm doing so. So obviously my own actions fall outside the scope of what they described in that post. And I'm using the in-game functionality to exit, not using an ALT-F4 / force close exploit, as they described.

So what do *you* have, as a link to an FDev statement, to back up your own claims that my OP is an exploit of some sort, and will result in some type of penalty by FDev after they've analyzed statistics?

Here try a reddit thread where support informed a player that the players that "logged" on him did so with the timer, so it was just peachy.

Yes, it's fine.

You might want to check it again... using the menu to log out of the game has never been confirmed by FD to be "combat logging", AFAIK.

Yeah i mean it's just coincidence that he feels the need to exit the game when an NPC pirate rolls up..... Riiiiighhhttt

Im not going to spend any more time in this thread...Im not going to dig up links to justify or argue yourmethod of playing..
All I can say...if this is allowed in a bigger context, it will ruin the game for countless many....
have fun cmdr...blaze your own trail!

Give the guy a brake and stop using him as a punching bag for everything other people have done wrong to you. At least he isn't killing noobs in sidewinders. He's taking the urine out of NPC's and it gave me a chuckle. I rep everyone who makes me chuckle :)

because you aren't logging out in the middle of combat, it isn't really combat logging. But still, I mean... God, I can't even...

+1 rep, you gave me a chuckle :)

Of course you play in Moebuis.

Just keep boosting, I can outrun any NPC in my Python. NPC's don't boost after you, only to evade.

Then again, if you have to combat log from a NPC that's pretty sad.

hows that sad. have you ever been in a type 9 and tried to run from an anaconda npc or been interdicted by a wing of 5... forget that noise. im with ya man if it's npc combat log all you want. i know a few other people that do the same. at first when i heard of it being done i thought ugh thats kind of stupid but you know what i get it when your insurance is 20 million i could see why you wouldnt want to get killed by a stupid npc interdiction.

Everyone has their own opinion. Similarly with the Sothis missions thread(s) + relogging, some people consider it an exploit, others consider it valid gameplay due to lacking in-game mechanics.
As I've already said (several times now, but people keep posting that haven't actually read things through), next time I kit out for trading, I'll go with at least a low-ranked shield to cover-my-ass for escaping an interdiction, which would then make it unnecessary for me to even employ this log-off-prior-to-interdiction tactic.

If FDev penalizes me for this, whatever, so be it. But then I'd expect they'd also penalize people that took advantage of the Sothis feature/bug. Instead, they patched a gap in their current implementation, which would be the logical approach here (if considered a gap/exploit/whatever by FDev).

No because they have stated that switching to get mission refresh is not an exploit but combat logging is and they said it is a concern in any mode
