Dodging NPC pirates by relogging

I was doing some heavy trading this weekend in a Python. Because it's a Python, obviously I can't outrun most pirates.
I wasn't running any shields, didn't have any weapons (well, I left the 2 default lasers, but that would only further upset an NPC), and using default hull (the hull upgrades are so expensive, meh).

As a result, it means I'm pretty much a sitting duck in case of pirate attack.

The solution I found, is to drop to start menu, and log back in, when I see that I'm about to get interdicted. I don't *always* make it in time (sometimes they attack before I have any speed in SC), in which case I immediately submit and boost until I can jump out, but that usually guarantees 5-20% hull damage depending on the intensity of their attack.

The drop to start menu also has the added benefit of not seeing any NPC pirates for a decent while (usually), which is nice.

Anyone else do this? BTW, I play in Private w/ Moebius group, PVE-only, so it's only NPC pirates that I'm worried about w/ this setup.

TL;DR - I'm logging off before interdiction even begins. So it's not combat logging. And it's not an exploit, as defined by FDev, as I'm logging out using the in-game mechanism. This is all because I was in a kit w/ no shields, no weps, not configured for combat at all.
It's discussed many times in the thread due to others not actually reading my thread and subsequent posts...

Also, I'm only doing this against NPCs in a PvE-only group.

Of course you play in Moebuis.

Just keep boosting, I can outrun any NPC in my Python. NPC's don't boost after you, only to evade.

Then again, if you have to combat log from a NPC that's pretty sad.

No shields, no weapons and combat logging to avoid NPCs... I predict that you wont get an awful lot of sympathy round here!

Sympathy for what? Not looking for any.

Well, as mentioned, I've stripped my Python down to have only cargo slots, only a docking computer is added in internal slot, and I kept the two default lasers since they didn't cost anything extra and the weight diff wasn't much.
Point is to get as much cargo, and as much jump distance, as possible.

So yeah, of course I log off, because no shields, no hull upgrades, rigged for trading only, why in the world would I try to fight with that setup?

Maybe try another setup? Seriously, this is kind of weak. Wouldn't it be funnier to give those NPCs some he'll when they try to get you?

That may be worth trying (actually paying the pirate), but last few times I tried that, the pirate just kept wanting more. Not sure the pirate tax is the way to go though, as afaik paying one doesn't reduce the rate of interdiction, and in a route between 2 stations, I can get interdicted several times. Not sure it's worth killing my bottom line.

By trading over the weekend I've been able to now kit out the Python for combat, exploration, and medium trading, so while I'm interdicted now, I just kill them (after kill warrant scanner for bounties), as that's more fun.

I still think when my ship is in pure-trade setup though, this is a valid solution (and however appalled other commanders are, doesn't bother me, haha)

Or you could, you know.... change your setup and have some fun chasing them NPC's off instead.
But I have to ask (without judging or anything), what is the fun in having a stripped python and combat logging against NPC's?

How you play the game you paid for is up to you, I really don't care one way or the other. The bit I am struggling with is why you felt you had the burning insatiable need to post about how you play the game?

Ahh,...but this allows him to 'meta' and play the game his way.

Exactly, and thank you for that reference to metagaming, had to look it up :)

If you are not too hot shooting, fit some turrets and let them do all the work:) Trading + Bounties = more profit!

Ya, that's the more fun route. I'd do that in my trade-only rig, except the default hull is weak, and combined w/ no real speed/agility, makes it quite risky w/out shields.
That is my default approach in my multi-role setup though :)

Purely to get more profit, more quickly. Relogging sucks, but carrying ~280t cargo so that I can make ~$1m per round-trip makes up for it. My goal is to be able to eventually buy an Anaconda w/out having to trade up my python.

Just curious to see if anyone else uses this solution

You can dodge them by dropping out of supercruise and back in and they are magically gone.

Yeah, that's a quicker solution if my speed is low enough. If I drop out by clicking twice, iirc there is hull damage from that, right? Does the amount of damage change in relation to what speed you're traveling?
