Does Elite development ends in 2024?
No as the LEP needs another 10 years to be fulfilled.
Clearly quite a few things have happened over the years that have delayed development progression. I remember 2.1 being delayed 'because they wanted to get it right' for example, the recent lockdowns in 2020 & this year will inevitably have had an effect too.
So it's taking longer than initially anticipated, but as Odyssey showed (imo) the game
is still being developed with future content in mind.
Now there is some reasonable cause for concern that Odyssey has not done well enough to justify doing the whole DLC released in one lump thing again, just as Horizons apparently didn't do well enough to justify using that incremental release model again.
So maybe we'll get a bunch of smaller, lower cost pDLCs in the future, but maybe we'll get nothing. The 2024 date in the OP is plucked out of the air (based on the 10 year plan rumour).
It is frustrating that it's taking so long, and all the more frustrating (for me) that the big plan that was built up so much pre-launch has not been updated to give the community something longer term to look forward to & offer reassurance, but it also doesn't mean development has stopped, only that it's delayed.
There is a lot to be frustrated about. Stuff has been both delayed (which would be okay if the end product was 'good'),
and bugged / poorly received (eg steam reviews). But there are plenty of signs that FDev does want to improve the situation, and that future development is still ongoing, albeit with an excessive (imo) degree of secrecy considering how open they were before launch.
I like the game I bought, and don't really mind what gets added as long as it doesn't needlessly interfere with what's already good about it, and I know that one day I probably won't be able to play it any more (the way I like or at all) so I play & enjoy it as much as I can now, while I still can.
Do you?
