Does Elite development ends in 2024?

Post launch LEP = £120
a DLC = £30
4 x £30 = £120
There were a few price points for the LEP. All LEP included access to alphas and betas in their prices, and so to compare properly we need to use the DLC prices that included those alphas and betas. Also, you seem to have purchased it on its last sale during 2015, correct? If that is correct then the maths are:

Player who bought the LEP in the limited window sale in 2015 and already had the base game: £120 (discounted price for having the base game) - £30 (base game price) - £40 (Horizons including betas) -£40 (Odyssey including alpha) = £40 left worth redeeming. That is around one more expansion similar in size to EDO or EDH including access to its eventual alpha/beta.

All the other LEP price points before 2015 (cheaper) have been already amortized in terms of content/price.

About these LEP's, I'd think if they offered that again, for any future updates etc, a lot of people would buy it. I missed out on it the first time, and I play the game quite a bit, have enjoyed the DLC's (even if taking years to get right), so would be happy for the chance at that again. Especially if it included some key words like landable planets. I do think that will be happening at some point as a DLC, but if getting an updated LEP made it happen faster, yes please!

To break even. I didnt buy LEP to break even compared to everyone else. 2-3 more DLC minimum to make the investment and backing of fdev a worthwhile investment.
Well, at least I hope the correction to the maths is clear.

As for what you personally expect from the LEP, be my guest, but your view does not seem to recognize what the LEP really was or how future DLC have been and still are, from day one, always subject to FDEV discretion and views about the viability of the franchise.

Maybe it would be best if you do not personally attempt to explain the maths Viajero, you do not do it well.

Nothing needs to be explained Viajero, just as long as you don't keep misrepresenting stuff. Let Frontier staff sort it out.
I was actually not explaining anything, certainly not misrepresenting. And was referring precisely to actual FDEV public info and statements. Happy to link them for you if interested.

No as the LEP needs another 10 years to be fulfilled.

Clearly quite a few things have happened over the years that have delayed development progression. I remember 2.1 being delayed 'because they wanted to get it right' for example, the recent lockdowns in 2020 & this year will inevitably have had an effect too.

So it's taking longer than initially anticipated, but as Odyssey showed (imo) the game is still being developed with future content in mind.

Now there is some reasonable cause for concern that Odyssey has not done well enough to justify doing the whole DLC released in one lump thing again, just as Horizons apparently didn't do well enough to justify using that incremental release model again.

So maybe we'll get a bunch of smaller, lower cost pDLCs in the future, but maybe we'll get nothing. The 2024 date in the OP is plucked out of the air (based on the 10 year plan rumour).

It is frustrating that it's taking so long, and all the more frustrating (for me) that the big plan that was built up so much pre-launch has not been updated to give the community something longer term to look forward to & offer reassurance, but it also doesn't mean development has stopped, only that it's delayed.

There is a lot to be frustrated about. Stuff has been both delayed (which would be okay if the end product was 'good'), and bugged / poorly received (eg steam reviews). But there are plenty of signs that FDev does want to improve the situation, and that future development is still ongoing, albeit with an excessive (imo) degree of secrecy considering how open they were before launch.

I like the game I bought, and don't really mind what gets added as long as it doesn't needlessly interfere with what's already good about it, and I know that one day I probably won't be able to play it any more (the way I like or at all) so I play & enjoy it as much as I can now, while I still can.

Do you?

Well, i hope you dont expect more than 10 fps using hardware that is 10 years old...
we all expect to have at last 30 fps with any hardware from minimum requirements up, in particular playing at minimum quality settings. if they cannot deliver that they HAVE to change minimum requirements in the store page, otherwise is a scam selling a software to legitimate customers that cannot play even decently later.
If a room with a fire in it makes players get a single digit frame-per-second rate, maybe they should ask other software producer how to write code properly, because there are shooter games with pure amazing graphics and breathtaking graphic effects that run without any issues with the same hardware! Even better hire some of those experienced and talented professionals to solve it once and for good.
Our money was REAL and paid in FULL. So we PRETEND it runs decently on our COMPATIBLE machines after 6 months already, because they still are selling for "NVIDIA Geforce GTX 780" as MINIMUM requirements in Steam shop page!!!

I would love for you to be right and have 10 years more of new content etc. But, as it has always been the case and as stated by FDEV at the time, future content will always be subject to FDEV views on the viability (commercial viability to start with) of the franchise.

FDEV statement makes sense actually. If a product is commercially attractive and competitive in FDEV portfolio it will probably continue to be supported and developed. And if not, well then it won’t. Weather that is 1 year, 5 years or 10 I guess we will see in due course.

Personally I think we will still see more development past 2024.

However I would like to see FDev come out with a list of headline items that they want to add like ELW, ship interiors. No dates just a list to wet our appetite

fdev releases its commercials every year with a agenda of whats coming. The Elite franchise revenue over that 10 year period has not decreased year on year from release, the opposite has happened. Which again makes me believe we have another 10 years of them milking the cash cow which will also let them deliver on the kickstarter and LEP commitments.

The financial statements in the last few years do not delve much into the split detail of some specific franchises such as Elite. Unless I am mistaken we have some indirect evidence indeed such as concurrency or unit sales at some points etc but not clear cut figures about Elite only specific recent revenue figures, and certainly no info on EDO sales, yet.

I agree with you that it would be great the Elite franchise stays robust. We will see.
