Good point (with your follow up also). I would think that it wouldn't have been very difficult at all for the organizers to recruit a CAP of PvPr's to be at the jump off point on the appointed day for insurance and some great entertainment.

Supposedly they have an escort of 2000 Anacondas, ready to deal death to any who might oppose them.

My impression has been that the site was chosen because it's on the inner edge of the bubble.

All I'm saying in regards to security is that if a player had input into where the beacon and jump-off point should go, he might have chosen a more secure system.

I think the system was chosen because it was the start system for the first Distant World Expedition.

Fly/land safe.

Who chose the jump-off point? I mean, when the DW beacon went in, who chose what system it would be added to?
The DW beacon was put there Because That's Where the First DW Launched.
DW2 chose it as the launching location Because that's where the first DW launched.
You'd have to ask Erimus why he chose that location the first time three years ago.

I’ve only been flying a couple of weeks and lost my brand new shiny diamondback the second I jumped into the system. Lesson learned.

I'm surprised the Iridium Wing didn't protect you.

New player - didn't even know IW exists?
Instancing?
So many ships needing escorting that there are not enough escorts available?
You generally need to contact Iridium and request an escort. They are on the Fleetcomm discord.
I think vindelanos was being sarcastic.

Only 3-4% of the fleet is signed up as fighter escort. If you're not flying a combat build, I'd stick to Fleetcomm until you're out of the bubble.

My philosophy is simple: If you're playing in Open, prepare for the worst. If you're not equipped to fight, be equipped to run.

However, I'm not going to say "don't go into open" because some people are going to find this element exciting. I stay in Open for that reason. 99% of the time I have no problems. But that 1% makes the other 99% more exciting simply because you never know when it might happen again.

If you have the money for rebuys and don't see ship destruction as more than an annoyance, I'd actually recommend starting DW2 in open for that reason. Dock at the nearest station before heading to the waypoint so if you are destroyed it's just a minor setback and you can catch up quickly. Move to a safer PG once you've travelled far enough that the setback becomes more than just an annoyance. I've joined FleetComm, but mostly because I expect it will be the better way to interact with CMDRs once we're a thousand LY or so from the first waypoint.

Side note: While I have no problem with PvP I do see this kind of griefing being more akin to a bunch of kids with high powered water guns shooting up a sand sculpture competition, then blaming it on the sculptors for making their sculptures out of sand and being so close to the water where there's infinite ammo.

I think many new players are more resilient than you give them credit for.

I pirated a Sidewinder today, in my Sidewinder, and he didn't log, didn't cuss... He took the assault like a man. Respect to him. You can see the video in the PvP forum.

If all the griefers are joining DWE2, does that mean those of us staying behind can operate in peace?

Then again, I'm stuck in Solo, so it matters not to me :p

Yes, that's right. I think it was also the starting point of Kamzel's original (solo) trip to the far side of the galaxy. Iirc, DWE had a few meet-ups at places he found on that original voyage. Some of those places are REALY cool; I hope we meet up at some of them again.

So if I wanted to do maximum damage as a ganker on DW2, would I do my PK spree at the beginning, middle or near the end?

I'm not going, I just know that known PKrs are in the DW2 group.

It should be an interesting event. Sort of a multi-Salome' in slow motion thing.

Just remember, friends are not your friends;)

It's the launch point for the DSS Beagle and has become a yearly anniversary event ever since.
