Naah i think that is just us again. There is a third group ... People who want both. Thats who FD are trying to cater to, and it makes sense because the majority of players probably fit into that group.
We are just trying to get a compromise.

Barbeque lovers wouldve moved on right as they dont care about that fishy place anymore.
I get what you are saying, tricky a bit sometimes as you refer to the game now making fish food, but i get what your saying.
But you are now gone and moved on whether you care or not. However as humans we inherently care and there will still be many things in ED or the fish restaurant you enjoy and will be back right?
I second that. Certainly didn't make me want to quit the game!I think i feel cheated too [re science and realism vs Sandro's teleportation], but to be honest I'm not sure yet whether the mechanic will actually cause the kind of problem we fear, or will just change the game in a way we will get used to and manage. I just don't want believers to lose too much faith when the timing right now might be great for ED to grow
Oh trust me ... Those three demographs exist.
You definately have:
Casuals - Don't get a crap
Elite purists - ED needs to be Elite through and through and they wont be told otherwise.
Rest - Somewhere inbetween
I would say maybe 70 - 80% of the ED audience falls into the Rest with 10 - 15% being the other two.
So assuming the above is accurate, why wouldnt FD cater for the majority. (I put myself in that category)
Even if the above numbers are rubbish, the point is that its FD's job to cater for the majority. And they are doing that.
What about if you are a vegan?![]()
Talk about over reaction ....
NGE was a cluster**** of epic proportions. There are so many changes in 2.2 that are going to affect the game anyway, ship transfer is just one part of that. I have seen nothing that even approaches that level of insanity. Also don't forget that of all the types of people that SOE decided to pee off it was hardcore Starwars fans. Those guys are mentally unhinged anyway and are so emotionally invested it was going to happen at some point. At least TOR has redeemed that to a point.
Players may go elsewhere over time anyway ... thats just part and parcel of running a game over a long period.
It wasnt 'hardcore star wars fans' they upset.
They'd managed to annoy their core market, which was people like me who liked the idea of a immersive world that played within the constraints of its lore and where your decisions actually mattered and what you did impacted on the game world
I for example, ran factories that supplied a lot of the imperial guilds on my server.
Then NGE came out completely gutting the complexities of the game in favour of a plan to capture the more 'casual' market share, which drove a lot of the old guard away as they felt it had deviated too much from its mission goal (sound familiar?)
TOR is just a very pretty NGE type experience with biowaste storytelling (which is its strongest hand). Everything else about it is bland imo.
The year is 2016 and there are cars that will go around a racetrack, as fast as a pro driver, on autopilot. Absurd that we cant have this 1300 years in the future.
You can guarantee that if auto pilot is introduced AFK farming and botting will be common place within weeks. No thanks
David Braben gave a lovely speech about the importance Science and Realism, so I felt charmed to buy some paint jobs and ship kits. The very next moment Sandro announced teleportation and a wonky overwrite of the broken jump range imbalance. To be 100% honest, I felt a bit cheated, and even lied to. I worked my tail off for two solid weeks to engineer every mod on my FDL to get it to 20 LY. Now that grind is irrelevant. My FDL is built for a galaxy that doesn't exist anymore.
This game requires a lot of time already. How can I trust investing and pouring my free hours and weeks in the game if they keep changing the rules?
100% same here. In my case it was an FAS.David Braben gave a lovely speech about the importance Science and Realism, so I felt charmed to buy some paint jobs and ship kits. I agre with you. In my fleet I always buy ship skins as prizes for any and all contests or tournament we have the fleet loves them oh and the bobbleheads tooThen buy an ED skin ... actions always trump words.
Agreed. I wouldn't want anyone or FDev to think that my vocal dissent with recent choices is a sign that I'm going to give up on the game. I'm not a 5 year old who will just toss all my toys when things don't go my way. I will go on with the game because so much of it was and remains to be very appealing to me.
However, I am seeing a pattern in development that I believe does not coincide with core values of Elite. Rather, I see a pattern of development that is trying to cater to a larger audience that is not familiar with Elite or similar games of its nature. I'm seeing marginally successful attempts at attracting a more generalized crowd of gamers. However, I see every day how the attempts are not working. Every day there is another thread from someone who doesn't really "get" space games like Elite who then goes on a rant telling us how bad the game is and how they are upset they spent any money on such an "empty" game.
Focus on your core audience, heck, squeeze us for more money, if you have to. Just please stop trying to turn this into something everyone wants to play because that is impossible.
I will admit, I probably was spitting fire after hearing the Sandro interview with Lave Radio yesterday.
However, my anger is a measure of my passion for the game.
I just need to better manage my own anger problems....stupid shrink, getting into my words
Perhaps thats the issue, the core gamers dont make up enough numbers to pay the bills, imagine the other side of casual gamers are larger and carry more cash? To...well keep paying the bills that gets us all to keep playing this game?!
If frontier shareholders and Braben are under cash and resource pressure, not saying they are, then what do you do to keep the game going?
Just saying...
