My story is probably mildly different than most. I was a kickstarter backer for ED, and yet I could never get started playing. Every time I looked into it, something would steal away my time, or I was busy with other games, or I would just stare at my starter ship (a Cobra Mk3, due to kickstarter) and not really know where to begin. By the time I started playing in earnest (2 years ago), DW1 was long since complete, and I had missed my chance to be one of the early pioneers of ED exploration in general. But it didn't matter, for now I was armed with a VR headset, and I was going to take to the stars. So when DW2 was announced, I wasn't going to miss this one!
During 2017, intermixed with exploration and various bubble activities, I kept trying out different builds on different ships. I knew I wanted to take something other than the typical choices (wasn't a fan of the anaconda, the DBX was too limited for my taste, and I had flown the AspX to death). This started an obsession with switching out ships with different strengths and weaknesses, which continues to this day. In fact, I flew 3 different ships in DW2, starting with the Beluga, then the T9 for both CGs (and all of the waypoints between them), and finally back to my trusty Krait Mk2 for the trip north from the core.
I veered off the path a few times, to switch ships, and to map some of my old finds, and sold data back at Colonia before we had Explorer's Anchorage available. This lead to me clocking in a little over 330 kly over the course of DW2, during which I got my "Did I leave the oven on?" EDSM badge (2.5 million lightyears travelled).
Yeah... I'm a little crazy. Space madness... you know?
I also took a lot of pictures, here:
