[DW2] Distant Worlds 2 Arrivals Thread

I managed to make it to Beagle Point less than 24 hours after it went live. In fact, I got to the system at just after 11:40 Eastern Daylight Time (15:40 IGT) on April 22. I got to the specified planet at 15:50 IGT, and the basecamp itself at 15:55. However, it appears I am unable to put them in the post proper, so I have to stick with an imgur link here.

This was the first true test of my Asp Explorer. Sure, it went on a decent journey on the Road to Riches, but this put the R2R to utter shame. This journey has been one that I will remember for ages to come, not just because of the screenshots I took along the way, but because of the friends I made on this massive, MASSIVE expedition across the Galaxy. And it's not just that - the organizers were top-notch perfect. They did everything in their power to ensure that this expedition was as safe as it could possibly be, and that everyone had fun. I know I did, for sure. May all future expeditions be as successful as Distant Worlds 2.

The actual jump into Beagle Point at the end of the journey, has the entire journey flash through your mind for a few brief moments. The euphoria and relief set in once you exit hyperspace.

IISS Far Horizon, 34 ly Asp Explorer, arrived Beagle Point on 25 April 3305 at 21:51:31.

I made every waypoint on time, and flew the entire expedition in Open with no Jumponium or neutron star boosts. The hull is at 88%, so the ship is good shape for the return journey so far. I took Route 33 across the Abyss, but then had to manually pathfind a way to Podor and Beagle Point. That last 500 ly was pretty frustrating, but it was good to finally jump into Beagle Point. Hopefully I can find a better way back to Sag A* and then on to the bubble.

Total time one-way: 3 months, 12 days. Here's hoping I can cut that down significantly coming back!

EDIT: I started the journey back to Sag A* and home, but this time I took the Smuggler's Path across the Abyss. This is a far, far easier (and more direct) route for Asp-class ships than Route 33. I spent three days manually pathfinding and backtracking to get from the end of Route 33 to Beagle Point. I was able to use the nav plotter the entire way on Smuggler's Path. Add the following waypoints to the Beagle Point side of the path to get you from BP:

Ceeckia YJ-Z c16-0 (ELW orbiting the distant binary)
Iorant QJ-I c9-1

The waypoints for the nav planner I used on the Smuggler's Path itself:
Syre Thua RY-S c3-0
Puwee LD-K d8-3
Puwee FR-N c6-0
Chua Dryiae TY-N b40-0
Syneayoi SF-R c4-0
Pyroo Eohn ZU-V d3-2
Cho Thua SB-W c15-1 (end of Smuggler's Path)

My Asp has a range of just over 34ly, but none of the jumps were even close to 34. I didn't use any Jumponium at all -- very fast, very efficient, I wish I'd gone to Beagle Point this way instead of Route 33!

Landed Beagle Point April 25, 3305 approx. 17.37 PST. It's been a great journey. I think I may have to get a new paint job 😋 Thanks to the organizers and congratulations to everyone who participated o7.

Thank you everyone for such a great adventure ♥ We left Beagle yesterday, it's not until you start the trek back you really see how far you've come eh!
Thank you to Rebecca and Dr Nagi, fellow science nerds and biological bounty hunters and to my Terrahawke team mates too. It's been a trip!

I got my "Humboldt's Badge" finally so I'm very happy to add that to my collection. EDDiscovery states I arrived on Apr 23rd and EDSM was a little lagged recording me entering Beagle Point on Aug 24th. Oh well, filled out the form and officially recorded my completion.

For fun, here's my DW2 journey (This only shows DW2 travel between the start date and hitting Beagle Point and nothing else). As you can tell, I tend to wander a wee bit 🙃...

I cannot comprehend, nor adequately express my appreciation for all of the time, sweat, tears and triumphs given so freely by the organizers and volunteers. This has been a true highlight of my gaming life.

Special shout-outs to CMDRs Ratthehatter & Ash Kuro: countless hours mining together, swapping out my prospector controller because there's no point prospecting myself when Ash is around. Both of us enjoying the lessons (and legends) of Rat, the living wiki of all things Elite. You guys made this journey greater by orders of magnitude.

Quick question: do we need to log in somewhere specific at Beagle Point, or just in the system? Because I didn't actually land at the specified landing site -- picked some cool mountains to perch on instead.

Also, I'd like to say: there were times I couldn't wait to get here, but now that it's over I wish it wasn't. I'm a combat CMDR, and sort of a trader... never thought I'd find myself on the other side of the galaxy, as far out as it's possible for a human to go. It's been the experience of a lifetime, folks. Thank you.

Pretty sure you just have to log into the system. Non Horizon owners can't even land on Beagle 2, but they can traverse the system. :)

Quick question, Do you need an EDSM or EDDiscovery account to have this count or can just using vanilla stuff work?

Also, Thanks to all the organizers, this was fantastic!

So if we make it to Beagle before June 13th but did not join the official roster, we can't get a decal? I mean I'm already halfway to the core so I might as well keep going, but I just wanna know in advance if I'm not gonna get the decal out of it.

Guess no decal for me as I visited Beagle Point 90 minutes before the start of April 22nd (UTC). But, I'll get one for DW3 instead, I suppose. :)
