Distant Worlds II Event DW2 PS Edition

I'm not fond of the Anaconda, but struggling to fit all i'd like into anything else. Currently i'm testing this Krait MK2: https://s.orbis.zone/1frl

My DW2 roles are Fuel Rat and Fighter Escort, which it seems to fit well enough: done a few rescues (as a Fuel Rat), and kills mission pirate lord corvettes easily enough.
A lot is thrown together from existing modules, so I could probably optimise further, but i'm not too worried about jump range. I don't plan on using the neutron highways, so no AMFU fitted.

Any tweaks/suggestions will be taken onboard though.

Also isn't the start of the prep week soon, what are we doing on PS4?
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/466352-DW2-Preparation-Week

I'm happy to help collect rares for people, can bring a mining python etc

For the role you selected, I would personally recommend a larger ship. Krait MK2 is a great ship, but it has little in carrying capacity as a Python or something larger would.

My Anaconda, 78.76Ly is her max jump. I jumped from Sol to Maia in 5 jumps. I had the largest grin on my face when I did. Even laden, 71Ly is still pretty darn good.

Sure, but I wouldn't mind a SLF which massively restricts choices. I'm not a fan of big ships, and was going to go in a Cobra MK3 when DW2 was first announced (before the Krait mk2).

I looked hard at the Python, and while it's much better than it was (I went to Colonia in a 17Ly Python before the neutron highway and engineering), the Krait has more pros with SLF, jump range, cockpit view.
Ditto the Clipper which I've been exploring in, but again trade-offs.
My Cobra i did a re-fit on, and it's getting 47Ly, but it does feel restrictive for such a long time away.

Since then I've put in an A rated life support (G4 lightweight = 2.5T), and swapped the beam laser to a healing one (Medic!) on the Krait. I'll do a bit more shakedown runs to see.

Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the larger ships myself, but now that I own a Cutter (a lean mean money makin' machine) and Annie, my views are changing. I prefer my medium class (we can land ANYWHERE) but for this expedition, out in the black for 20 weeks, I like to have some insurances, you won't be able to achieve that (you could, but you'd have to make some sacrifices) in a medium class.

Hell, I even left my AspX, and that's my GO TO Explorer ship, I have 2 AFMUs and a Repair Limpet Controller on DWB, 20 weeks, not near stations, repairs will be necessary eventually, even for the most cautious of us.

Oh yeah, forgot all about that. Just like to play it safe. Nothing wrong with that. Specially when a station is thousands of lightyears away.

And i wonder who helped you change your opinion on that anaconda??? 😂😂 ;)

Absolutely.

The basic skills (to not really mess up) aren't too significant, we can help earn you earn credits in wings, and this week we are helping people unlock engineering to improve their ship too.

Initially I would say do the "Basic Flight Training", "Docking and Travel Training" and "SRV Training" training missions (off the main menu), as these are risk free, and you can explode the training ship over and over for no cost.

Skip the combat training missions, and then try the mining one if you think you'll be interested in mining.

Apply to all the relevant items for Distant Worlds 2, and use the Prep Week which is coming up.

Hi I got here from the article on Polygon (https://www.polygon.com/2018/12/28/18159073/elite-dangerous-distant-worlds-2-expedition-fsd-upgrade)

I’m a complete newbie here and in Elite Dangerous. Given the price of the PS4 version I thought I’d give it a go. But is it even possible to get up to speed in the game to be ready for the launch?

It's an ask but we're here to help! Perpetration week is coming up which is designed to help relative newcomers to unlock engineers by assisting with some of the commodity requirements.
However' as a new player I would suggest you ask yourself very seriously if you want to be away from the main centre of activity in the game for about the next 10 months. Personally I would love to see you out there with us but it's a hell of a commitment if you're new to the game!
If you're concerned about value for money you will find more breadth of gameplay in human occupied space (The Bubble) but if exploration is what drew you to the game then you can't beat a major expedition.
Beyond that, what Stinja has already said is invaluable. The choice is your and we will be here to support you if you decide to join us.
Look back a few posts and you will find a link to the formal PS4 join instructions thread.

Journey Well CMDR o7

If you need any sort of real-time assistance/advice from other PS4 people, you're welcome to join us here: https://discord.gg/aerYht4

As Crow said: it's quite a commitment, but it's worth trying. Group events are the most fun stuff you can do in game. I say give it a shot, and if you see it's not for you, you can head back to the Bubble after a few days.

Hello

I would love to sign up this year for DW2. I'm a newcomer and I just had a few questions I don't seem to find an answer to that I hope some of you can clear up, sorry for any ignorance.

What's the start date of this expedition and how does it all work schedule wise? I mean do we all travel/warp a certain distance on a daily basis at the same time? In other words in order to participate do we need to be there every day at a certain time?
I'm a bit confused how it all goes down once it starts. Also how long does this take, including the trip back home.

Any insight is greatly appreciated, thank you.

It starts on the 13th, and has weekly Waypoints at fun locations. Travel between the Waypoints is at your pace, with or without other players. Social events happen at the Waypoints if you are interested, or you can skip it if you don't want to participate.

Overall it is really just a social trip across the galaxy at about 4,500ly per week.

I hoe you’re all benefitting from Preperation Week if you need it CMDRs!

Welcome CMDR!
As Numenor says the expedition starts on Jan 13th. We are currently in the middle of Prepartion Week, which is to help anyone signed up who needs help unlocking certain key engineers.

The Expedition will be over c.10 months. It will include weekly destinations c.4500ly apart, 2 Community Goals and various player driven events based around the key fleet roles. You will need a ship capable of at least a 33.4ly to reach the final destination. Destination meetings and events will take place in individual small groups of players because instances will only support between 16 and 27 players and there are over 500 CMDRs signed up on PS4 at this time.

We’d love to have you along! If you do decide to join us please sign up from this thread:

Then look up this post for the PS4 signup procedures:

...and mine just above for the PS4 roles threads

Hope to see you out there! o7
