Distant Worlds II Event DW2 PS Edition

Thanks, that's very helpful.

What attracts me about this trip is that in the 18 months of playing the game I've had almost no engagement with other players, to the point where I'm cosnidering starting all over again on PC; I think that there's a lot to be gained in the game from playing with other players and it's been hard to do that on PS4 (ED is only reason I pay for PS Plus!).

DW2 gives me a great opportunity to play with other players which was initially part of the game's attraction, for me [smile]

Well we have 3 chat groups each with c.100 CMDRs in them plus a Community with a further 200 odd, so I'm confident I can connect you with other players!

Just as a heads-up: I'll also have quite big breaks, as my wife and me will be on parental leave and want to use some of that time to travel around Europe. So eventually I'll miss the beagle point meat up in May, but try to catch up later :)

I love the community idea of this event, even though the constant messages coming through my PS4 are starting to do my head in! I was trying to land in a narrow ice valley last night whilst message notifications kept pinging up all the time...aaargh! I won't even mention what my wife things of the same thing happening on the PS3 downstairs while she's trying to watch Netflix!!!

However, work commitments, ski holidays, mountain biking trips and the fact that my wife does actually expect me to talk to her occasionally, means that there's no way I can see me getting even half way to 4500ly a week, so from the very start I'll be lagging behind and I'd be surprised if there weren't folk strung out all over the place from the very start, because we can't be the only one's!

So I'm looking forward to starting, and I'm looking forward to the whole expedition, but I'm kind of expecting to do it at a fairly slow pace, but maybe with the chance of meeting up with other Lantern Rouges as the event progresses.

:)

That's alright, many will take it slowly. Perhaps you'll miss a couple of Waypoints, no matter. It's still nice to have the chance to occasionally meet someone in the black.
And BTW, those PS4 notifications can be muted! :)

The messages were getting on my nerves as well, solution: deactivate message pop-ups in your PS4 settings. Would recommend using the PS message app on your phone instead.

Didn't know that was possible! Thank-you Nerix, I'll sort it tonight when I get home from work. Big hugs, and a virtual beer from me!

The problem is if i'm Fuel Ratting i need messages turned on.
I don't think the Community message feed pings up notifications, but most people are using the shared-message thread.

Oh and there is a separate notification option to disable messages when watching video (movies etc), which helps on that side.

I'm signing up tomorrow.

I've crafted a Phantom for the trip but as yet I've not quite decided which role to fill, i have a couple of empty internals that i can use and was originally thinking that i'd throw a few limpets and a repair limpet controller in there and go Medic (mostly for my own benefit lol) but i'm willing to change that if there is a desperate need for anything else on PS4?

I'd do fuel but it appears that i'll know a Rat that might help out if needed. ;-)

Ten-four for a rubber duck CMDR's o7

*edit* Anyone have a link to a decent check sheet for the road? i think i have most stuff covered but i'll undoubtedly miss something, thanks in advance.

Cheers guys.

Not sure about the old science thing though, my standard investigation thus far has been to fire at it and see if it shoots back. I’ll look into it though.

@Stinja Thanks man but I was thinking more of mats that i’ll need, i’ve never travelled further than Sag A* and for the most part that was just a direct journey.

Anyhoos, i’m on my way back to Taygeta to say goodbye to my fellow Hive and do the final tinkering/gathering (maybe poke a Thatgoid for fun too). I’ll register later when I have all the details I need.

God speed o7

Ahhh, the only thing you can't get mats for (easily) out in space are for Heat Sinks:
- Basic Conductors
- Heat Conduction Wiring

Then i'd preload on the useful ores (for life support, limpets, SRV ammo, SRV fuel, SRV repair):
- iron
- nickel
- sulphur
- phosphorus

It may be wise just to have a few jumponiums, in case you get stuck somewhere. Personally I just intend to potter about slowly, and wont be using jumponium or neutron highway (except in an emergency).
Don't forget you can use the material traders to more easily swap/stock up on things.

I just realised that 'Mats' aren't the things I put my beer glass on to stop the wife shouting at me......materials make a lot more sense.

I'm making a few last minute adjustments to my Diamondback Explorer. I've engineered my FSD and swapped out components till I can comfortably jump around 43ly. I'm still tooled up though as the last few game sessions I've had saw me getting absolutely spanked by pirates more times than in the whole of last year. I've got a couple of medium lasers and a heavy laser on the front. I was going to ditch them as I can't see them being needed. If I replaced them with mining lasers, would I need to refit a cargo rack, or do I just need a refinery? I've never done any mining, other than on planet surfaces in my SRV, so I'm not sure what I'd need, or whether I'd really need it at all.

I'm wondering about a refinery, too. If it's advisable to take a mining laser to get mats for fuel, ammo etc, does that mean we need a refinery to go with it? And do we need prospector limpets to help us find those mats?

A clarification: during DW2 there will be two mining CGs. One (at Waypoint 2) presumably in the system of an Asteroid Base not too far from the Bubble, and another at SAG A. Both stations (it has been confirmed today) will have outfitting, and very likely mining tools.

This means that it is not absolutely necessary to bring mining stuff with you all the way from the Bubble, as you could acquire at least some basic mining laser at the CG stations.

Of course, if you want to you can. But keep this in mind.

Hail CMDRs,

Having awoken mere days ago in a DET center in Ross 986, I was horrified to realize I know nothing of how I got here, who's jumpsuit I'm in, or where this stripped-down flying-space-garbage of a Sidewinder came from.

All I have is a data log telling me to seek myself amongst the black, and that the answers I seek are "Among Distant Worlds"

With that, I am seeking the advice of those that have come before!

atm, torn between the

Phantom https://coriolis.io/outfit/krait_phantom?code=A0patdFflidxssf5w1----02--v238040s-439r2i.IwgMIzXYd8g%3D.Aw18aQ%3D%3D.H4sIAAAAAAAAA2P%2BJ8XAwPCXFUjwq%2Fz6%2F19oBzcDg8gUQQYGiTtAwf%2F%2FGQDd9NBpIgAAAA%3D%3D.EwOgrA9AjBqQDBAzFEAWCiCmBDA5gDZYTTxmYXxA

and the MkII https://coriolis.io/outfit/krait_mkii?code=A0pstiFflidxssf4----w0----fr04480tv4-9r2i.Iw18WQ%3D%3D.Aw18WQ%3D%3D.H4sIAAAAAAAAA2P%2BJ8XAwPCXFUjwq%2Fz6%2F19oBzcDg0iNKAODxB2g4P%2F%2FDABJ8pCXIgAAAA%3D%3D.EweloBhBGA2EoFMCGBzANokMK4fiIA%3D%3D

Going to Mine for the Sag A*, thankfully now knowing I can pick ship my mods there. Through the rest of the trip my idea was to fly as Support / Medic mix a little Pilot saving in with my exploration. The idea of having an SLF sounds like a lot of fun for this expedition, and is my main drive towards the MKII. Happy to run a more wing-friendly or PS friendly design as needed.

Extremely limited engineering, and I obviously missed the prep week. :( . Trying to grind out the priorities and the last bit of cash for my mods in the next few days if any brave CMDRs are feeling generous with their time.

Thanks in advance for any insights! See you in the black, CMDRs! o7

All signed up. Finally registered here, lol. Currently enrolled route to NGC-40 Star but going to save that expedition for another time. Looking forward to DW2 on PS4!

Th difference in jump range is negligible. I say go with whatever you like the most. It’s gonna be a long time. The SLF will be handy to do some light-hearted flying around.
