Ordered my new system

Ordered my new system by advice gleaned from this thread to run my DK2 when it arrives

AMD FX 9590 4.7ghz O/C 5.4+
Corsair H100 Watercooling
Asus crossfire V Formula Z
16gb Kingston Hyper X 2133
240GB Kingston Hyper X 3k SSD
2TB Seagate Barracuda
Superflower Leadex Gold 1000W

And the graphics






EVGA Geforce GTX 980 SC

Hopefully it will run ED with everything on,on rift.
If they sort out Sli then may add a second card.

So I did a bit of testing on my new 970:

(bear in mind I've also spent half an hour or so overclocking my card; managed to boost the GPU clock by about 200Mhz, which will help)

@Chango Dock, while freelooking around
1200p on monitor, high settings: 110-130fps
1200p on monitor, side by side 3D (just to compare), high settings: 80-100fps
1080p on Rift, Oculus Rift 3D, high settings: 65-75fps
1080p on Rift, Oculus Rift 3D, med settings: 74-75fps

The overclock defo made a difference! It's pretty much rock solid for me now on Medium settings, just drops occasional frames here and there, not sure what I can do to combat it tbh :(

Ordered my DK2 last week @ september 18. Apperently they got through the mass shipping of DK2's and the 6-8 week prediction before shipping is accurate now! Just telling everyone this for their recent orders! Cant wait to try it out and hopefully have the devs improved the support for it in beta 2.

They will atleast fully support it @ launch right?

Ha, jinxed myself with that test. All seemed to be well until the last time I just returned to a star port to sell some illegal goods. Same star port as earlier. For some reason, even on approach I'm down to 60fps. Get inside, it's the same. Quit to menu and reload. It's the same. Drop details to low. It's the same. What the... Buy a Cobra. Now it's even worse! I hope a proper reboot fixes it :(

well since getting my oculus rift I have had a few wow moments, most of them in Elite, but today it was turned up to 11.

my mate gave me his account details for a few hrs so i was able to hang up my cobra and 50k credits and bask in the wealth of 8.5 million.

I tried the lakon 6, 9 and anaxonda and the only word to describe it is WOW!.

the feeling of size in both the type 6 and 9 with those huge glass windows towering above you, and also being able to look down through the glass below you.......

and then the anaconda... when you turn around and see the bridge, its like something off star trek, but, the single best thing for me was docking the anaconda.

you really get a feel of the scale with the huge hull of the ship poking out into the distance in front of you.

brilliant!........ the closest I can imagine it would be like would be captaining a large cargo ship when going into port.

turn off flight asist and it was even more fun, though I did not dare try to dock like this...... I cost my mate 400k in ship fees i think swapping about ships, the last thing i needed to do was give him a big insurance bill.

am back to my account now, i will leave it till the game goes gold and will earn them legitimately, but, all of a sudden "boring" trading excites me again now.

Are you running supersampling along with antialiasing? Those two will kill anything.

I'm in the queue for a 980 through EVGA's step up program, so I'll post stats on that once it shows up, I'm hoping I can run full 2x supersampling with it, if I can combine that with anti aliasing, so much the better.

hey pal, I went the same way and got a 970 today just tried Elite and wow amazing compared to 7970, all on high now..

im now a NVidia man.. not had one since 3dfx

any tips for a new NVidia man ?

Hell yeah! I'm getting my DK2 tomorrow. I'm going to try holding off till Beta 2 get's released. Hopefully they'll have most of the issues worked out by then. Or do you think i should just take the plunge tomorrow?

I got mine on Monday (well, Tuesday actually because I was away Monday... well, Wednesday actually because I was busy Tuesday :p ). I run a triple head setup and having all sorts of issues trying to get anything running in extended mode.

E: D I'm going to leave until beta 2, as hopefully Direct mode will be implemented along with CrossfireX (which, incidentally, is smooth as a nut on my system).

Ha, no anti-aliasing of any kind enabled. Considering my 970 is now performing close to a stock 980 (did some more overclocking last night) I wouldn't get your hopes up.

To be fair anti aliasing makes almost sod all difference on the rift anyway.

You on the Rift as well? I am amazed you can put up with the poor headtracking on high details if so! :p

No tips otherwise, see you out there!

Not rift related but make sure you pick up all the physx games esp the Batmans metros, borderlands 2 (and apparently mafia but not got rount to playing yet)

The difference is great.

TBH mate, I think no matter what you tweak, the guys at FD can probably make 10 times more difference with optimising the game. And like all good devs, optimisation is done last when everything else is locked down.

What is really good to see is that you are the second person with a 970 who I've seen get pretty much 980 performance with an overclock (the other guy barely touched memory speed - he found it made very little performance difference, it was like you about 200mhz on the GPU clock). The other good thing to see is that you're only slightly off, even with the game in the state it's in now. Hopefully that means that in beta 2, with the new API, you'll be smooth as silk.

I'm actually playing on a GTX770 with everything maxed out (but with AA off and medium shadows) and it's completely fine for me except for stations where it'll be smooth, then suddenly degrade for a second. I'm hoping time warp will sort that for me. I'm also playing on a PC built for ED, so pretty much nothing else is installed on it. It's really bare bones.

Yeah I know man. I'm crossing all my fingers for some improvements in beta 2, but even if there aren't, am confident it'll be great eventually!

I'm just a bit impatient. Hehe.

So you're not running antialiasing? What about supersampling? SS definitely makes a sizable difference, it makes text a great deal easier to read.

My 780 GTX runs ED fine with 1.5x supersampling and no antialiasing, no slowdown even in the stations with a lot of transparency like Wyrd.
