Cheers chaps. I'll keep playing. It is a lot better.

I think it is all about finding the sweet spot. And remembering to re do all the calibration stuff (IPD etc) once you have moved it. Also see my post a few pages back on calibrating colour in nvidia control panel. Fixed a lot of issues for me
What is the sort of relationship between FPS with/without DK2? e.g. if I'm getting about 80FPS outside of the DK2, should I get 80FPS using the DK2 or does it take a sizeable performance hit when rendering in 3D?
At the moment, everything is nice and smooth when moving the ship with/without the DK2, but head tracking is pretty jerky when using the DK2.
I'm trying to work if I may need a GFX card upgrade to get the head tracking smooth - I've currently got a Radeon 7850 with 2GB RAM.
Well after trying a whole bunch of stuff and I have gotten over the awe of vr .....
A few thoughts.
IMO the fov is not a problem. Its not perfect but its nothing that would stop me buying.
You really need a high end PC. Truth is even on minimum. My gtx 670 even over clocked does not cut the mustard and is part of the reasons that I feel bit woozy I think even on low detail.
Pre Facebook DK2 was essentially going to be CV1. I now think I am glad Facebook kicked in the cash allowing higher res screen etc. The SDE and low resolution IMO means dk2 is not quite there. It's fine in custom made little games and maybe also for other games primarily with the rift and its limits considered from the off.... But other than elite dangerous (and even that a little bit) games such as euro truck sim and live for speed the res is still too low IMO. I find myself straining trying to read detail and its makes me tired.
I am not knocking the rift after all its a dev kit but I am inclined to echo what palmer says. Dk2 isn't really consumer ready tech.
VR is amazing but unless you are happy with buying for the geek value, if you are in any doubt what so ever IMO hold your horses and make sure you get a cv1 v early doors.
Couple of thoughts on the thoughts if I may?
1. I think a lot of tweaking is frantically going on at the moment and the performance draining monster that is currently the Dk2 may very well calm down substantially over the next month or soI hope it is sooner rather than later, but I don't think it will be "soon" soon.
2. With this in mind... Having tweaked the colours, enabled SMAA and most importantly down sampled from 2560 x 1440 ... I am ALOT more impressed with the res capability and colour def of the DK2... I'd even go so far as to say its on a par with the RiftUp ... If they can get ED optimised sufficiently to run at 75 fps at 2560 p then we are in for a serious treat until CV is launched.![]()
Hey SlackR, is there a post on enabled SMAA run through for elite? And you have pretty much the same spec pc as myself, how are you finding down sampling as far as performance goes inside the rift? Many thanks![]()
Getting o lot of chromatic aberration (is that the term? So halos on some text and hud elements. The worse thing though is a lot of smearing on the black areas of space. Looking through the Cobra front windscreen the bottom area is black and the top/sides are smeary grey. It looks like it corresponds to where the scratches/marks are when using a normal screen but they are just big smeary grey areas. Same effect in Hyperspace.
Anyone else see this?
I'm getting the same grey smearing on the ship windows. Did you figure out what was causing this?

Managed to get the judder down quite abit although still noticeable,
To be honest, on medium settings I can live with it, and im only running a GTX 460, only just got the PC so can't justify spending over £300 on a graphics card just yet...
The only problem I'm having at the moment is severe motion blur, if it is that.
Any slight movement from my head at the image almost ghosts/has a trail. It's like being really p!ssed and trying to play! haha

The blur sounds like low persistence is off, can you double check that your refresh is 75?
