Yup he just tested it. Did the third mission. Let's just say he ain't Elite.![]()
That he ain't.
We tried telling him about power management.. oh well.
fix for DK2 until SDK is updated...
1. Download the runtime and (optional) SDK
2. Set up the Rift by following the instructions ...
http://static.oculusvr.com/sdk-downloads/documents/Oculus_Rift_DK2_Instruction_Manual.pdf
3. Make sure you update the firmware.
4. Test using the small room demo and / or oculus world using direct mode.
5. If they work, calibrate your IPD and tracking zone using the config app and small room. I find putting the camera on the back wall and moving the desk forward allows for more wiggle room.
6. If everything is cool, switch to extended mode inside the config app. For the moment keep the monitor set to primary.
7. Not sure about AMD, but for NVIDIA cards you will need to change the orientation of the screen, so that it appears the correct way round. This can be done in the NVIDIA control panel. Whilst you are in there, create a 3d settings profile for ED and set antialiasing and triple buffering to on.
8. Lastly in the NVIDIA control panel, set the Rift refresh rate to 75 hz.
9. Ok now open up the oculus config file again and hit Ctrl , Alt and Del. in task manager, close wscrip.exe and ovservice.exe in processes.
10. If its NOT Elite Dangerous you are wanting to play at this point, you will need to set the rift now as the primary monitor. If its Elite Dangerous you want, just open the game.
11. In options / graphics make sure the refresh rate is set to 75 hz and v sync is on. Switch to oculus mode and set display to secondary monitor.
12. Once in game, lean back in your chair and hit F12 to reset the rift and avoid clipping. If you are still not happy, move your desk away from the wall and reset again. (Assuming you have the camera mounted in the wall behind the desk.)
13. Done
*If you are getting a message saying oculus service not available, go to your oculus folder and open the inside the services folderovrservice_x86 or x64. Then open the config.exe inside the tools folder.

I noticed that if your vision wasn't centered then the image would seem to start to come apart for want of a better word, the image would start to blur /ghost and the colours would come apart unless you were looking pretty much straight at it.
Even if we're devs? :S
I was a virgin rift user when I got home from work last night. I expected the res to be fairly decent, but those pixels looked huge to me in both the demo and ED. After a while I could just read the menu's but it was a struggle.
This. When I'm not in ED I'm building stuff in UE4....have a few ideas for the rift![]()

yep text is easily readable now, its still pixalated though. if you are expecting regular dektop quality then you will be disappointed with this and even CV1 (even 4k will not meet that and ill be stunned if we get 4k for CV1)
Yeah, I think it's almost a sure thing that DV1 wont be 4k.
in the quick start guid it asks to install the SDK before hooking up the rift.
that seems simple enough, however, I have downloaded it, but i cant find any install exe. am i being really daft? if it just needs to be downloaded and not installed does it matter where it goes?
thanks
Brief report before the floodgates opern here on the forum....
Got the rift up and running and although I had a bit of stutter and res is a bit low (hopefully I can tweak) it really is a OMG moment when you get to look around the cockpit. absolutly stunning.
Only problem is I updated the firmwear and now the DK2 is locked in a forward position and wont track or move around.
I'm hoping this will be fixed with the update today. I did download a rollercoaster sim and it was the same problem. Seems as if the FW breaks the old DK1 demos.
But OMG.Worth every penny.
