ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

One last question I have DK1 and a new PC so need to install the SDK again. Is the new one working with DK1 or will I have to do the same hacks pople are doing to get DK2 working?

If so I'll just install 0.3.2

Yeah it was definitely 1080p. If I lifted the rift off my head I could see that my mouse pointer was still floating about on the main desktop screen with a software pointer in the ED screen. If I move the pointer all the way right and keep going to make sure it's at the right of the rift screen before moving back to the menu, I can interact, but as soon as the pointer leaves the window I get a minimise event.

It's not so bad on the main menus, as you can use the pov for most of it, but the galactic map menu is on the left of the screen so it's very easy to click on the desktop by accident.

I only played for about 30 minutes and most of that was spent leaning forwards and backwards and looking at my virtual hands, so there's a good chance there's some config that I've missed.

I see what you mean about the galaxy map... I tried changing some of the bindings, but didn't help... is a bit of nightmare trying to do anything with it... I can't even switch between the tabs...

Here's a little batch file I made that I run before launching Elite Dangerous.

Code:
taskkill /IM wscript.exe /T /F
taskkill /IM ovrservice_x64.exe /T /F
pause

It's for the DK2 workaround when 0.4 Runtime is installed. You still have to setup Elite Dangerous ingame for secondary display, oculus rift setting etc.

This "workaround" gives the correct display and tracking support.

I also recommend the earlier tip of hitting F12 after sitting way back in your chair once in game to reset / calibrate the rift position.

I've followed the guidance on here, got the rift running in game, is there a key in-game to tell the rift 'the direction i am now looking should be dead-ahead', I try pressing F12 but it appears to have no effect and the Rift keeps losing me and deciding over my right shoulder is the front of the ship :/

Should be set to F12 by default... But you can change it to whatever you want in the graphics settings. I use voice attack and just says 'oculus' to reset.

Regarding the galaxy map...

Can someone with a DK1 try clicking on the tab panel (on the left of the screen) with their mouse inside the galaxy map. My cursor doesn't reach that far. Michael wasn't aware of this issue and has asked for a ticket, but I was wondering if the DK1 also had this issue ? - can't be bothered to switch rifts over! :p

Oculus Rift DK2 Color Contrast - Day Glow

Hi,

Finally got my OR DK2 to work with ED.
Wow!

One thing I noticed is the sidewinders holographic displays were illuminous, as were all lights in the cockpit.
I changed the brightness in the Option->Graphics menu, and while this did reduce the brightness the colours were still day glow orange, like contrast was set to 100%.

When I was looking around the cockpit I moved my head outside of the OR tracker sat on my monitor. As soon as I went outside the tracking range all colours in the cockpit turned normal. No day glow this time, but instead normal soft colours, the same as when playing on my monitor. When I brought my head back into tracking range...*poooof* day glow neon colours again.
Asteroid etc all look fine...it's purely the holographics and lights.

Woka

So is that it for batch 1 then? anyone heard anything on Batch 2?

Looks like it. I was quite sanguine about it all until Beta 1 came out, now getting very impatient!

On the plus side though the game looks so much better now we can set the res to 1080p in game again. Makes text pretty readable even in DK1

Finally got it working. Thanks everyone.

I raised a thread here about it and will raise a ticket: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28832

For all of those with AMD CPUs and older Intel chips (well - so far).

It appears that the camera drivers use a newer instruction set not supported by the above CPUs and there is currently no way to enable the camera tracking as the service fails as soon as it sees the HMD move.

As I am currently waiting for parts on my main rig, I was experimenting with the Rift on my AMD A8 laptop and initially came across this problem (and yes it's only for basic testing as this machine does not get anywhere near the required framerates...)

On can still get the default tracking by disconnecting the camera but only legacy tracking is available at that point.

Anyway, the thread at https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=10994 has more details.

Anyone here checked the Oculus Mode with a GTX780 OC Card and if it is possible to get 75 FPS with it?

I want to buy such a Card next Month.

Confirmed. I can navigate galaxy map now, even if it is a bit finicky but can't read anything in the panel, if there was a way to zoom to it it'd be fine.

You're best off waiting as the 8 series cards are due in a month or so.

The GTX 800 are said to be coming in October. I'd wait till then as a) you can get a better card or b) the above card will be cheaper.
