Text is hard to read (more blurred) at the moment in my default seating position. But you can lean in.

This means again it is very hard to compare because it depends on your seated setup. Some users lean back then reset the Oculus view so they always have a slightly zoomed ui view. Others lean in when they want to read something.

Because the image is stretched over your vision you will see the pentile pixels much easier than on a monitor with a similar res.

To put this in some kind of perspective :-

I have a 4k monitor, Games look stunning in 4k res, including ED. Since I've been playing ED with my DK2, I tried only once to go back to ED in 4k. I instantly realised I missed the feeling of "being there" from the dk2. I went back to the dk2.

The OR has ruined me for ED to be played any other way.

Very nice information, much obliged! Still undecided if I should get DK2 or wait for CV1 (guess I'm not the only one hesitating...)

Get both. :)

No-one knows how long CV1 will take or what the specs will actually be (beyond Oculus themselves and they're not saying).

In the mean-time, you can have the best & most awesome VR experience in E: D and other games with DK2.

There is always something better just over the horizon.

The DK2 is great right now, but if you buy it you'll still want to buy the CV1. I think it just depends on how much spare cash you have to be able to buy a DK2 now that will most likely be redundant in a years time.

Yeah me too, It's so much more fun in the OR. Since you have a 4K monitor I suspect you have a pretty beast graphics card, have you tried to downscale from 1440p on the rift?

The other thing is... even once CV1 is announced / released, people will still want DK2s at a reasonable price. So you can get most of your money back through eBay or the like.

RE:Frame limiter - last night my game play was smooth with this. I disabled VSync in game and in NVIDIA. Then using a program called DxTory I limited video FPS to 75. Other Frame limiters exists - I don't know much about this tech

OR Causing Power Surges

Since starting to play ED with the DK2 Windows had been cutting out and restarting with the message that the system was shut down due to power surges having been detected.

At first I thought this because I was overclocking my AMD GPU (which caused scary blue screens of near death) but I have since turned that off as it makes no discernible difference with the DK2.

It only happens when I am playing ED with the Rift. The temps seem to be in normal ranges.

Any ideas?

What's your PSU rating? And is it a "white box" PSU or a decent make? Sounds like a potential culprit.

Does the rift have a DC adaptor? Spread your power load on different wall sockets.

My son had power surge messages on his amd PC after upgrading his GPU, turned out that he needed a new PSU. In his case, this solved his problem.

Mines on a truck heading for me, that's the good news....

The bad news is my local UPS depot is in Feltham, as in the place with the young offenders institution - I'm picturing the truck as a blockade runner, crashing through burning barricades, pursued by a gang of rabid hoodies:)
