Received mine yesterday.
Ordered 21mar 12:47 pm

Have allready flown a hour or so.
It looks ok. Looking around is fun especially after doing a crazy stunt and seeing the engine trails in weird patterns.

I hope the next patch will see a way to start up direct to rift, so I dont have to kill certain processes.

Yeah, love flying though engine trailes. And missile smoke... man, wow.

I have dk1 and dk2. Short answer is that, yes, it is worth getting.

DK1 was great but frustratinv for several reasons:
1. Low res, cant read text, cant see ship detail outside the cockpit.

DK2 isnt as good as it will get, but it is WAY better. I can read text easily ( except when text is at an angle ) and the enemy ships are amazing. I see firey boost jets and smokey sparks and ship damage while we dogfight.

2. I got "eye fatigue" when playing for more than short sessions, and the lenses would fog from my breathing.

DK2 doesnt fog, is way more comfortable and I can play for an hour without realizing it. No eye fatigue!

3. It constantly needed to be reoriented. So much so that the pinky trigger on my x52 is for view reset.

With DK2 The head tracking means you almost never need it and its way more natural to wear. I still use the view reset for finding the back of my view i.e. I lean back in my chair and hit reset so that my view doesnt fall behind my avatar in the game.


Its HUGE leap forward. Buy it!

Since i find the DK1 comfortable and not eye fatigue, i can only imagine how a big improvement is the new kit.

I updated to runtime 0.4.1 yesterday and had nothing but trouble with this version so i switched back to 0.4.0.
The biggest issue was that i was constantly getting blackscreens on windows boot ups (win7) after trying out some unity demos, that's the very last thing i wish to have to be honest..
i had the same issue when i enabled Bilagos utiliy SSE Fix - next windoes boot = blackscreen.. oculus noted that they fixed SSE with 0.4.1 so i think there's a coherence..
anyone else got this issue?:S

It hurt my neck a bit swinging my head backwards and forwards to draw/erase the landscape to make the transitions.

Download the Live For Speed demo and I bet you'll end up buying the S2 license in no time. That game is so well developed for VR its crazy. The developer is churning out patches nearly every day at the moment and making huge performance leaps. For a 1 man band he's an inspiration.

Which could mean that there is a build out there compiled against SDK 0.4!(Oculus will want to demo the perfect experience, and Frontier no less so, hence the idea that it could be a new version).
I wonder what the build nr. is they have over there.

Here's to hoping (even though I don't have the Rift yet :))

Got mine this morning and despite just having come home from a 24 hr shift, I didn't eat or sleep since then - I'm at 40 hrs now.

Tried a few demos and games, but thus far, ED stands out by far. I hear DCS world is similary great, but couldn't get it to run in the DK2 thus far (completely crahes my PC with the OR, but I really didn't try to nail the problem yet as I was too tired for that).

The only thing I'm concerned about is the horsepower a CV without pixelation and lowered tunneling will need - not because I'm not willing to spend the money on it, but because I'm afraid of compromises that will be necessary to reach a mass market.

I'm having a issue that I can't formulate thus not search for:

You know when in cartoons they hit some head on the side and the character goes boiiing left right left right... thats ED in my DK2 when I rotate my head.

It's not a performance problem or bug, it's like the Frontier guys tries to fix the ghosting but it just makes the whole thing worse!

Any fix?

I have had the dk2 for two days now and elite is in my opinion the only thing worth playing with it. The demos are nice to showcase the tracking and such. But E D gives at once the best experience but also shows the limitations of the dk2. The screen door effect is still to pronounced and in my opinion. Having to lean into unreadable menus etc. Chromatic aberration. But in my opinion the dk2 is the way to play. I am never going back to flat screen e d.
