ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

I think the resolution is fine however I would want a slightly better field of view. Perhaps with the advent of curved screens and ever increasing pixel density, eventually we could end up with two separate, slightly curved, panels that are full HD rather than having a single full HD panel split in half on the vertical axis.

Ah yeah, the DK2 doesn't allow you to change the IPD unfortunately.
Since your IPD is at the very high end, you will get a rather poor experience I'm afraid. There might very well be blurry image, and certainly a lot of Chromatic Abberations. :\

the Consumer Rift will obviously allow you to alter your IPD.

But there is hope for you. Someone is making hardware modifications that are easy to install. He hasn't made them for the DK2 yet, but he had for the DK1. He says he's working on DK2 version very soon.

Bummer.

Thanks mate

Try reading the sub menus in the Galactic map, they can be read, but they're not clear - to say they were would be misleading.

True, Forgot about those :) But I can honestly say I have not come across a single occasion in over 20 hours of play where I needed to take the rift off to play. The trade menus in the galactic map are readable just fine, the only bit that is not is the detailed description of the system. Hardly a game breaker is it?

It would be great if some menus were shown on the ?tablet? Between the legs.
For me the resolution is good but the screen door effect needs to go and that can only be achieved by raising the rift resolution.

There are still some changes that could be made to make the rift experience better. Such as making the in station menus more easily readable. Or could this be done by lowering fov in game.

I'm getting really a lot of chromatic Aboration. Anyone else get this

I'm somewhat convinced that at least some of the chromatic aberration noticeable in the DK2 during ED is due to the fact that native DK2 support hasn't been implemented into the game just yet. DK2 has different lenses than the DK1, so the aberration correction is probably off in the current build's renderer.

Is there any indication of an update with Elite to support the 4.1 SDK? Absolutely adore playing with the ORift, but the stutter/judder is so bad (despite capping at 75fps) to be unplayable.

Did a search but...no news of note?

Full video.

Hi guys if you're reading!

I was watching that video on a tablet and had to explain to my wife why I was laughing so much. Nice that they reviewed ED, but watching two guys who admit not knowing the game giving each other advice (usually wrong) was very funny. Tested his weapons in the no fire zone - destroyed. Took off again to then fly into the station. That was me a couple of weeks ago ;)

I think they really liked it though!

Must admit I laughed too when they hit their heads on various things during the vid.

Yay!

Hmm until they reduce the distance required to get the camera to pick up the head unit, it wont be for me as I play at the desk with the HOTAS on the desk.

My DK2, when on my head, is about 1.5 feet from the sensor. It all works like a treat.
How close do you want it to be?!

Tested has nothing to do with Mythbusters.
Jamie and Adam do some things on Tested, but it's not related to Mythbusters in any way. It's something else they just do now and again.

Well in that video they had it on a tripod about a metre away and the guy was getting out of range warnings when looking up.

They also specifically say in the video you can't just put it on a monitor as it will be too close if your at your desk and not sat back.

Based on that, it won't work for me.

This is exactly what I do.
Works like a charm. Not had a single issue.
Just measured the distance...45cm from my head to the sensor.
Sensor is on my monitor and I'm sat at my desk like when I do normal work.

I don't care what was said in a random video, all I know is that it works on my setup without a single issue from day 1.

I have it on my monitor, with my hotas and no issues at all... sometimes when you lean in too far it does the stop.

It works great
