I have, and the experience seems improved, but I cant put my finger on why. Slightly wider focus in the FOV perhaps?

On the down side the black smearing is very much worse. Also the dark sides of planets seem to wobble like water baloons when I move my head.

My DK2 arrived yesterday and I played Elite for about 30 mins on it so far today.

It is a rather wonderful experience. The 3D just being 'right' is what sells the experience for me. You soon come to take it for granted but I've never had this sense of depth perception in any 3D movies etc.

It really sunk in when I went to check out a Lakon-9 up close in my Sidewinder. I could tell exactly where the glass of my cockpit was in relation to the hull of the Lakon and safely maneuver at much closer proximity than I ever felt comfortable doing with my Track IR setup.

But the smearing is a bit of a distraction. I noticed someone above mentioning it may have got worse with the latest firmware update. I only got set up yesterday and so have had no experience with previous firmwares...

Do you guys know details about the low persistence display? Is low persistence always on? I ask because one of the first demos I tried was that Opera one (Sanza Peso). It has a toggle for low persistence and turning it on and off makes a world of difference. Like Elite it has lots of contrasty objects. Also the "Titans of Space" demo seemed to have significantly less smearing than E:D.

Very much looking forward to seeing what improvements may come in Beta2!

Black smearing workaround

I found a workaround for the black smearing using the color control for the monitor on the Catalyst control panel, increase brightness 8 points and decrease contrast 8 points, the black smearing totally disapears but in exchange the world is a little bit brighter.

I've not had any black smearing in this or any other demo...
Did I get a lucky fluke of a dk2
Was really bad on the psp so I know what to look for.

more likely the way your contrast & brightness is set up means you are not seeing it.

either way though its a win for you.

I did get the smearing at first, but lately I don't - I've not changed contrast. I did turn off coronas though. Hmm... I'll double check as I don't want to mislead, but I'm pretty sure I don't get it anymore and I'm not sure why - it was really noticeable at first.

I think i seem to get it more on low detail than I do on high detail.

possibly high detail has more subtle shading in places and low is just black (and it is only true black which seems to give the problem)

sadly it is too poor a framerate to play on high on my modest rig.

LMAO, that would have made me chuckle!

No ETA. Because I paid with PayPal, I go straight to ready to ship. It will now wait for the whole batch to be finalised, and then they all get shipped at similar times. I reckon they will finish this western EU batch on Thursday morning . I'm guessing send out on Thursday, hopefully to arrive Friday, Saturday (if they do that) or Monday. All this is based on watching threads all over the place, it is not an exact science.

Don't know what I'll do all day at work now, now that I'm not checking on my order :D

Hallo guys.
i have myrift for 2 weeks now, tried most of the demos and games available. managed to play most of them without stutter.

Concerning ED. from the start i had issues with terrible stutter.
I managed to TOTALLY remove it. I mean if youjust try it on my PC now its PERFECTLY fluid. no ghosting, no statter . just great gameplay.


How i managed this:

well for your information i have an i5 @ 4ghz and 2x7970 crossfired.
I PLAY ALL my games with crosfire on and thats what i did with ED. without vsync on in the rift i could get 140+FPS.
But i went on and used vsync as Oculus says is a must.

In the begining i had the well known issue of my vsync geting stuck at 60FPS because of windows Aero. I disabled it and solved the problem , the rift (with vsync on in game and in Ati Catalyst ) was always locked at 75fps

I have the horse power with the 2x7970s to constantly get 75fps in ED in the rift BUT although i did i also had a noticable stutter...:mad:

for 3 days i tried and tried different settings trying to get rid of it. Everything seemed right, vsync working, rift stable at 75fps in ED... BUT the stutter was there.

Then one night i disabled Crossfire... :eek: The game now is at 75 fps (looks like just a single 7970 at low settings can manage 75 fps) AND ITS TOTALLY FLUID!!! no stutter!! just a verynatural head movement and positional tracking!!!

the game is actually 1000% playable , i can play for hours without any motion sickness (withe the stutter present i always got slightly dizzy)

SO the good news is that if you have the horsepower you can actually make ED playable with the DK2 without even a slight stutter.

The bad news is that INDEED crossfire (and probably SLI) do add delays and stutter manifests... :(

i hope in the future oculus manages to make sli and crossfire compatible with the rift because so many of us have 2 gpus.. its a pity if we have to upgrade to a single gpu just for the rift

I got DK1 as complete surprize, they didn't change my status till after I got it, so I'm hoping for the best, would be nice to get it before the weekend. Now I'm reading this entire thread to be prepared with firmware, drivers etc. Anyone knows where can one download any decent clips in 3D, I remember on DK1 Virtual Cinema with 3D was very impressive (minus the resolution), but I was struggling to find more than two short 3D clips to play...
Sorry if this is not the right forum, I'm just so excited :) Plus I'm waiting 5 minutes in front of Azeban City with my docking request denied, hope there will be some automated redial in final version....

I just seen on Amazon, resellers are trying to sell DK1's and 2's for $900 USD and up!

I wonder if they actually sell any at that price?
