ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Now enjoy

Thanks. I've adjusted my screed size too.

It does look wonderful although I find the menu's tricky to read ( little surprised by that as I tried the DK1 at lavecon and assumed that would be better ). Still it does look great.

I'm now looking to get the cpu parking bug fixed. Onwards and upwards!

Just lean toward any menu you want to read.

Go into the Graphics options.
Check the resolution in there
Is it 1920 X 1080?
Is the refresh rate 75Hz?

If so check that you have Oculus Speakers or Headphone selected and not side by side 3D.

If that doesn't work then try opening this file
C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME HERE\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\Settings.xml
You're looking for this part
<IPDAmount>0.042972</IPDAmount>

Amend it to match your IPD (look in Advanced in the Oculus Config Utility for this) e.g. if your IPD is 60 change it to <IPDAmount>0.060</IPDAmount>

Thank you for your guidance.
I will try this to,
N.B
when I open the graphics settings -Nvideo options- if I try to set to 75hz,
I can NOT rotate the -extended- screen to 90 degrees.

So I have to leave it at a higher setting, then I can rotoate and I wait until I,m in Elite -options-graphics, then I can set it to 75 hz.
this results in a larger screen size .it 1080 x something here, -its bigger than the recommended size......( it's not in front of me and I cant remember it.)(will get back on than one ).
I,m more of a gamers than a computer wiz. so not confident with playing around with p.c settings.
Just to note: I tried playing on my Toshiba satellite laptop *specs=:S

that was very smooth play, on same settings as the p.c and was NOT sooo blurry.:S

Again, thank you for :) all advice and assistance.

I know I put it up here once before.
but this is how I,m setting my rift up,
but thinking it not complete. as I,m still very blurry.

Confused as these are instructions for beta 1. Beta 2 is different. You don't need to do half that stuff, and it will likely not work correctly if you do.

You shouldn't stop or pause the service.

I would leave AA in OFF, in both the game & the NVIDIA/AMD control panel. That alone might be the source of your blur.

Online=judder, tutorial=butter...

Has anyone had this experience ?:

Running the tutorials (docking, asteroid field canisters) I can get full FPS on every setting in high. No judder anywhere, everything smooth as butter. Best looking result I got was with making dowmsampling from 4K and turning antialising off.

But login to online game, framerate comes down and judder starts. Lowering settings don't really effect the result at all.. I monitored the GPU/CPU workload, got 85%/60%, so no issue there. Sounds like there is some kind of
deadlock issue in the game loop code...

GFX card: 980 GTX, slightly overclocked..

I've the exact same issue here, although it seems to work much better now with 2.06, only occasionally short judder (tested LP98-132 ring system and stations).

You turned FXAA in Nvidia CP on. It's basically a post-process blur filter so that could already be the answer. Also, turn off V-Sync and Triple Buffering there and turn on V-Sync in ED. For latency optimization you can lower the prerendered frames (or 'max frames rendered ahead' or 'flip queue size') to 1 or 0.

Also be sure that when in extended display configuration your Rift is the primary display. Some people also suggest to set the Rift to be left to your regular monitor but that might be voodoo.

And as others have said leave the OVR service running for Beta 2.

Aye, its running pretty sweetly, its just the inability to focus the damn thing that's got me baffled. Its a fixed focus, change the lenses, type of thing which baffles me. I'm sure there's a reason for it. I will try the other lenses or with my glasses on (slightly short-sighted). failing that I will get fitted for sodding contacts.

Got my Rift last night, I spent a couple of hours with the pre installed lenses then switched to the other set, everything was far more "in focus" menu wise. Glasses didn't really make much difference for me and were less comfortable.

I have never tried the "other" lenses.

I wear contacts so my vision in the rift is as good as i can get.

Not sure if the other lenses will benefit me much. Does anyone else with approx "correct" vision use the B cups or are the As better?

Hey everyone.

I've reported a bug to FD and they want me to take a video to demonstrate it. It's a Rift specific bug. What is the easiest way for me to record video?

I've got an nVidia 770 so I have Shadowplay, but I've seen people report it doesn't work with the Rift.

What do you recommend (the least intrusive way, the better - I want to keep this gaming rig "clean").

How about you leave the OR mode on and change the display to secondary, is the issue still there if you display it on flat screen? if yes then you can record it using Shadowplay.

Does anyone have the DK2 working with ED with the combination listed below?

AMD CPU - mine is the FX-6300
Nvidia 780 or similar Nvidia
Win 8.1 x64

Would be nice to know if someone has this working....

Blur-o-vision

I tried the other lenses and they are worse for me.

Does anyone wear their driving glasses with the rift? I don't want to scratch the lenses on the DK2 as I've heard they are very fragile.

Everything else is fine with the DK2, its just blurry and it causes eye strain.

Apart from that it's sodding brilliant.

I have something similar, have you tried closing one eye, and moving around the headset till the view is clear in the open eye? Cos if so, it may be your IPD is outside the norms. I have an IPD of 70, but the lenses are set up for 63 (or so).

So I have to squint slightly which gives me a headache, and the image is blury anywhere except the one spot I have to squint (slightly) to see.
I've ordered some addaptors to see if I can get the lenses to be wider and will feed back on it.

I have the same processor but a AMD card and Win 7 so that's one of the list.

What's the problem?

Got mine working with the below:

AMD CPU FX6300
MSI N760 OC
Win 8.1 x64

I followed the latest guides on here and it 'just' sort of worked. I did have your issue but after a restart it showed up. I also found that setting the Rift to primary helped, not just in ED.

I am not sure what driving glasses are but I use my normal glasses with the rift as I am too nearsighted to get a sharp image with the B lenses and without glasses. I already scratched my A lenses because of my glasses though (two square areas on the outer area of one lense, and on the first day using the Rift.. :( ), but the scratches are not noticeable when wearing the rift.
