regarding this login issue, I checked the network logs and the only error I see is this:

I tried logging out and logging back in to try and fix this but now it is saying that i dont own the game when logging in. Help?
Same issue here, I guess we can only hope that they have been working a fix today and soon it will be playable. I've been trying to troubleshoot all day and I haven't found anything useful. So I guess we can only hope that they (ED) has a fix for the game soon.
I did it!
How to play elite if you already have an established elite in Steam or from the frontier website.
1. Launch the launcher of the installed game. In the launcher, select - Exit on this computer
2. If you entered the browser on your computer under your account and remember the password, then log out on the site too
3. Now start the game at Epics. If you did everything correctly, you will be prompted to create an account and link the game.
There is one nuance here. If you bought a game on the incentive or on the frontier website to some e-mail, and the same e-mail is in the epic launcher, then there may be binding problems! Because the game is not linked to an account, but to an e-mail!
Try to have a different e-mail in the epic launcher
4. The game bought in Epic store - can only be launched from the Epic launcher. Otherwise, it will not work.
5. In order not to keep a bunch of installed games on your computer - you can enter your old account through the launcher launched through Epic. Just log out and log in with your old account.

This work for me! thx dude problem in steam if you log into account from steam you need unlink steam and then log in with epic
Friend, I have the same problem. I wrote in support - they said they knew about the problem and were trying to solve it faster.

I've never seen another games with that much difficulties to just "link" an account... And btw, just link my Epic account was an horrible things to do because there is so many bug.

Managed to get into the game on the 3rd attempt, but the only thing I can do is spend my ARX. I can't communicate with the mission servers, and I can't undock, either.

if you have installed the game, try to find the game files. these should be in your designated folder where all the games from the epic games launcher are. then go to /EliteDangerous/Products/elite-dangerous-64/ and open the application file EliteDangerous64 this should start the game.
Edit: this might not work and tell you to start the game via launcher/update the game.... i do not know how to fix this and if this happens to you you'll be better off just waiting for the devs to fix whatever is causing so many new players to be unable to play
