I have also been unable to play with my friend. He's in New Zealand and I'm on the west coast of the US. Even though we join via the same private group play, we're always in different instances. Seems like it's due to being on different region-based master servers. I wonder if there's a way to change your server in the config...?

Server Denied Request

I am getting this notice every time I try to exchange my Viper for any other ship, including a sidewinder.

I'd slam my viper into the side of the station so I could go back to a sidey IF I didn't have a whopping 700cr afterwards( yeah yeah, I just got into a HUGE fight which kinda reamed my viper and destroyed my wallet)

Anyone else getting this issue or is it simply server related?

If not, I'll ticket it.

Im in NZ aswell and i cant play with my 2 friends in the US because of different servers, they need some way of changing servers

The server you see in the main menu has NOTHING to do with your ingame stuff. That IP is just there for stuff like ships, progressing, markets...

The game runs completely over P2P connections aside from that.

well thats interesting, wonder what could be causing the issue then.

If you want to play together, you should try the Private Group feature. No guarantee that it works but you can always try. Just make sure both of you have at least UPnP enabled.

How ever we do it, this needs to be addressed before launch. Ive managed to meet up once, Its just a ball ache. There should be better comms between buddies, maybe some sort of additional sensor or contacts settings to make it better to link up.

Then not being able to see other players is just odd. can someone from dev please explain how this works

ED uses a p2p 'island system'

Take a particular station.

If you are playing solo online, the station and all the AI ships are created and managed by your PC. The central server is only used to tell your PC stuff like prices, missions, galnet news.

If you play with another player, your two pc's share responsibility for the management of the in game stuff, and they talk directly to each other. The central server only handles the prices, docking permission etc.

If a third player joins, the same happens, with the player pcs all talking directly to each other.

This group is called an island and you can only see other players in your island.

The central server brokers 'matchmaking' to decide which island to put you in. One of be criteria is how good your direct connection to other players in the island is. If you were in NZ then a direct connection with other NZ players is more likely.

So then having some one on your friends list should force it to always place you both in the same island then?

Yes, it makes it more likely. Putting your friends on your "friends list" is a good start!

Was testing this today. About 4 times out of 5, my friend and I found ourselves in the same instance.

On occasion, it still separated us. I quit to the main menu, reloaded... and we were in the same instance again.

In theory it should force you into the same island, but....

I'm not sure how FD have set the rules for is the connection between two friends is bad.

Normally the servers match make to put people with good connections with each other into the same islands. This is because if one person with a bad connection joins an island it can stuff it up for everyone. This is one of the issues that B1 had. It looks like the servers are being more strict in segregating people now.

Upside is that we should get better MP experience

Downside is that sometimes we can't meet people we want to.

It still does not really work and is buggy - that´s all.

lots of disconects from server today

yesterday not one for hours.

today like every 10 minutes. also got stuck in SC animation often when leaving nav beacon or warzones.

had to shut down the game, though it was still kinda responsive (you could turn flight assist on/of and see the msg for it e.g.).

playing in solo mode.

just a heads up to the devs ;)

With my NZ friend and me, we've used the private group feature over the course of 5 or so days and have never gotten placed in the same instance. I understand what you mean about P2P instances, but I still wonder if there's some regional segregation going on, which perhaps you haven't run into because you're not trying to play across regions. Or maybe it's just, as you say, super buggy. :(

Just like to add my voice to this, because having the same problem, consistently.

Seems to be that the game is putting us on actual different server addresses, and so instancing doesn't seem to come into it. Not been able to meet up with my mate since the start of the Beta 2. Really frustrating and I hope it's something they're aware that's an issue.
