I'm getting a sporadic connection, with timeouts every couple of minutes saying "Could not connect to matchmaking server". I'm going to a lot of unexplored systems and thought that was what was doing it :S

It's not a BT issue on your end.

I'm in Sweden, and I alternate between a) getting in game and then losing connectivity to the server, b) being unable to connect to the matchmaking server and c) being unable to even use the start button.

Well when they go live on the 16th there will be a few days of turmoil like every release. Thank goodness i used foresight and booked the 25th off work so i could play....

I can say with absolute certainty that the version on the 16th will be just as stable as whatever we are playing on the 15th. FD would be insane to add any new features on launch day.

Hope this gets better after launch. Lately it's been quite a chore to play, with a personal 33% miss rate whenever I wanted to play.

- Merge Threads

I'm not sure if this is the place to suggest, but I'd really appreciate a little doohicky (that's the technical term) on the launcher to show whether servers are up or down.

Because that extra click to the 'Start' screen is such a chore

But seriously, I just thought it might be a useful thing.

Unless it's there already and I haven't noticed it.

I'm gonna return to my dark corner and lurk again.

Sorry.

Post merge comment: Why? My thread was suggesting a quick note or icon for the launcher, maybe a red/green light pertaining to server status. This thread is discussing the apparent current server instability. Gimme my thread back. I though it was a valid suggestion *shrug*.

If there was a gamma 2.0 incoming thread stickied it's gone now... Or I'm missing something (which is quite likely, *grin*)

Just to add some detail to my experience above.

I had a bunch of missions, and ONLY the ones that were very close to expiring (one had 17 mins left) got the +~20 hours post server outage.

The other missions where I had plenty of time left didn't get a time alteration at all.

I guess on server up (and before it's live) it would be very easy for someone to pop in and run a quick DB update to add 20 hours or so all missions that are due to expire within 30 mins. You're not going to catch all cases but it solves a lot of the core mission issues.

I've played other online games with server-based deadlines where server downtime is treated exactly this way. Time is "added on", usually a bit more than the downtime to allow for people who have to reconnect from different time zones. No point in adding on 5 hours of time if the server comes online at 2am in Japan!! They usually do it in full days (but the deadlines are typically 48-72 hours). I'd imagine that's how Frontier will run the ED servers, although I understand the backend is an Amazon EC cloud? In that case there's no "physical" downtime, as everything is built on virtualisation/redundancy models. Downtime should thus be limited to routine or emergency maintenance of the database itself.

Haven't been able to get into the game all day, still stuck on revolving ship, have ticketed this, got this reply:

Elite: Dangerous Support Response

Hello, This is an automated response to let you know
that one of our support team has updated the status on your ticket to Closed
regarding:
stuck on revolving ship

so FD now about this maybe 2.01 coming

They asked for anyone with the revolving ship to STOP reporting it in the 'known' bugs thread. Hopefully I can get past the revolving ship this evening.
