And logially it doesn't make a difference in telling us who plays ed for how long and how often and in fact does nothing of the sort to tell us who plays lots of games and who doesn't considering Origin, UPlay, GOG, Greem Man Gaming I mean you simply don't know what you're talking about.

The above might seem logical to you but it doesn't follow logic at all. It's all a massive assertion on your part but I doubt me telling you that is going to turn on a light bulb anywhere.

You are absolutely right. Brilliant, in fact. I bow to your superior argumentation. You win.

We're looking into the games future. I provided a guesstimate of potential sales which I would place at the really low end. If FDev can't use £2.4 Million I certainly could! ;)

That's the key, right? Elite: Dangerous has already drawn in the 1980's space sim nostalgia crown (of which I'm a part). The future depends on drawing more players into the game and selling add-ons to existing players. If it can't do that ... then we're sunk. I don't wanna sink.

I see so on these forums, ED is an MMO when it suits the argument and not an MMO when it hurts the argument.

Yep. Welcome to the frontier forums. Your stance has to be absolutely right and everyone else is completely wrong to thrive here.

For such a opinion, buy more paint jobs for a ship you dont use as pennance, because you dont support the game enough :D

I'd never even heard of Steam until I bought Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
And I wasn't impressed with Steam then.
I'm still not impressed with it now, but then, I've never really cared for anything Valve has made.
I don't read their forums, watch their ads, care about their opinions, use their chat - in fact, I always turn off their overlay - sure, it's a convenient digital library but that's the only thing it really has going for it.

I'm not sure you can say you don't care for anything valve had made and be taken seriously, as I'm guessing you haven't played half life 2, as you needed steam to play it when it came out, which was many years before skyrim

While Steam does not represent the entirity of the ED player base, it is rather foolish to pretend Steam somehow doesn't matter or that those declining numbers aren't reflective of the state of the game and some problems it has.

And if you're not aware that ED is having some very public problems right now, I'd strongly suggest you use more than this forum for perspective...

You are arguing yourself into a corner in my book, look at steamspy, look at the type of games on the top list, notice anything specific?

action action action games, and football, Elite is not that kind of game, but that doesn't mean Elite is a bad game, but the fact that you compare Elite with these top end games, when Elite is more a niche kickstarter/indie game, really is you praising the game and saying it a contender against those games.

Now lets try to compare Elite against something equally niche? instead? Lets say MMO's on steam removing free.

sorted by owners, but lets look at play time since that's definitely the more relevant. Well how about that. That's quite different isn't it? Suddenly Elite is doing quite well amongst he paid MMO games on steam? are there those that do better? oh certainly, but doom and gloom as people here indicate? not likely, but lets try another category.

118 place.

So yeah, Is elite doing bad? Does 'currently playing' or such say everything? not really, unless you are one of those that think unless something is in top 10/20 or so, it sucks and is doing bad, and if you think that, well, you are wrong, a game can be doing just fine, in the insane sea of games out there, if it is in top 1000, it all depends on amongst other things what it costs it to be there. And again, this is steamspy only, which can't scrape a lot of profiles on steam, so yeah..and again, steam only, some of these games don't have anything outside of steam.
Remember steam spy also has, these stats for Elite.
Players in the last 2 weeks: 80,642 ± 8,067 (8.1%)
Which is significantly more relative if you ask me, Lets check GTA V
Players in the last 2 weeks: 1,685,470 ± 36,804 (23.8%)

Well, how about that. Suddenly GTA V isn't as far ahead as people may think, and that's with 7 times the owners.
Owners: 7,083,027 ± 74,924
And it is a significantly bigger franchise, and an action action action game, is it being played more, sure, but again, Elite is a niche game and vastly different from the main popular action action action games of late, add that Elite is steadily growing, and yeah, it really isn't as doom and gloom as some make it out to be?

In short, Elite is doing quite fine, and comparing it against the long running much bigger budget games, is praise for Elite, not a factor against it.

I'm taking it off the 2.2 million units sold according to FDevs annual reporting which you can find on their site and has already been posted numerous times on these forums plus I already cited my source, what are you talking about?

2.2 million / 2 = ?

Nope, you need to think about the data you are looking at. Quite simply, it's wrong by the data gatherer's own admission coupled to us simply not knowing the proportion of those who registered via steam not using steam and if they are reflected there. So you have a numerator of unknown quality, because it's from a poor source and not recorded accurately, divided by a number we can't agree on what it means. There is a technical term for basing all of of your statistical assumptions off that - it's junk.

Yeah, read my previous post, and you may want to reconsider your statement, ED does not really have a very public problem... And consider, your perspective might be off. Heck all of ours may be off.

I can get literally all those things *without* steam. As I did before steam existed. And I'll continue to not need a third party jumping in to be the middle man.

Happy for you, I will continue to get everything i need from one platform while you continue to have to use multiple platforms to obtain the same result.

What are these very public problems you speak of?

Get off this forum and find another forum where they discuss this game. There are quite a few from GAF to Reddit to Mobius to The Inquisition and quite a few in between. Try a Discord. Try Mumble. Try ANYTHING but the echo chamber here that sees flames and proclaims "This is Fine."

If you need me to enumerate a list for you at this point, you really can't be part of the solution.

Get off one echo chamber to go read another echo chamber?

Eh no.

Had never heard of Steam until I pitched up here, and I'd hazard a guess that there's a large number of silver spacemen that still haven't.

Lordy, looks as if Civilization is a dead franchise too:

22.61% after six months. That's the end of 2K for sure. Dead, dead, dead. best not look at Call of Duty, as that is so dead it's dead for a second time.

I think this is the twentieth time ED has been declared dead via steam stats since it first hit steam, somehow it still remains.

DEAD
