Ive just logged on to PC and run EDD v16.0 and found I now have a legacy commander name, so it just didnt update when I was running it yesterday!

Yep, I had time to test it yesterday. It needs a refresh to be displayed - either by restarting EDD or by clicking the icon with the two arrows next to the commanders drop down.
Great that it worked out for you.

Admin question, please?

If I want to back up and then clear down my to date EDD journey file - ie keep a back up of where I've been up to this point but now reset everything back to empty - what files should I be backing up? Then, what files should I be deleting so that EDD will recreate an empty file set?

I am about to set out on a new adventure in the Mallow and want to "start afresh"!

Another reason: this is becoming a BIG data set in my User\AppDate folder and I only have a smallish SSD for my system files. I know I could move it but I'm afraid that if I do that it will break, I will lose everything and never get it to work again.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Merry Christmas!

My journal files, where all this is recorded and is actually in the user/saved games folder in windows and not the AppData folder, takes only 972mb after traveling well over 2.5m ly and scanning more than a few systems and planets. My big data hog for ED is, of course, the saved pictures folder. Not sure which files you are referring to in AppData, maybe the visitedstars cache, but journal files are basically text files and are not that large. You can just move them to a backup and restore them if you decide you need them and EDDiscovery will rebuild the data from them.

All personell things (settings, notes, events from the journal files, ...) are stored in EDDUser.sqlite
If you want to keep your settings hold shift while starting EDD to get to the save mode menu there you can either delete your journals, or your journals and commanders to start from scratch. Be aware that EDD will repopulate the DB with everything in your journal folder, so if you don't want your old stuff to show up you have to clean that folder too.

And now I have to get several thousand miles away before Robby notices that I broke his "No support on the forums" rule :D

Oh have I asked this question in the wrong place? Sorry, if so. I'll go and find a better place to ask it.

Sorry.

Thank you to both Cmdrs for helping me. I think you have answered it, yes...and your reply was much appreciated. After what you said I was worried I had committed a terrible forum/EDD no-no! We seem to have got away with it, though!

As an aside, and I have said this before, I could not explore the ED Galaxy without EDD switched on. It has been my constant companion for many years now. I have a backup that was DW2, another that was Mercury 7 and I'm going to head on out on CEA5 in January.

Thanks, again Cmdrs.

Can someone help. I keep getting this error when trying to open the 3D map. Graphics driver is up to date and I am running the latest version

Pipeline shader compiler report for GLPLFragmentShaderBindlessTexture: ERROR: 0:11: '' : array size too big

Are you trying to open it in a tab or its own window, because I used to have issues opening it in a tab, try its own window if you are trying to open it in a tab. Also is EDDiscovery set to use your GPU for rendering rather than the CPU?

Pack updates:

  • Remember to check if a more recent pack is available of the other ones.

Video updates:

Warning:

Major Features:

  • Compass panel rewrite - better presentation, more configuration options. See the compass video at
    Source: https://youtu.be/s-AVEYq5vCo
  • Spansh Import - import routes from spansh into the expedition panel. From there, they are available for the surveyor to guide you through the galaxy. All spansh exports work. Open the spansh web panel to do this, export to csv and it will be automatically written to a expedition panel. See the video on how this is done at
    Source: https://youtu.be/qeLnq-pU14
  • Expedition - allow arbitrary x/y/z and systems and save the locations to the DB. Route note can be assigned to a waypoint in expedition. For Spansh imports, its the spansh note, else its a user entered note. This is displayed in the surveyor.
  • Combat grid can be filtered for event types
  • Carrier panel - the itinerary has a right click to open the system on EDSM or to get system data on it. See the video on the carrier panel at
    Source: https://youtu.be/zot3a7uHQfQ
  • Resources panel added. This and the materials, commodities and microresources panel get a shopping list option, with a wanted column stating how many of an item you want. Transparent mode for shopping lists added. See the video on the new resources panel operation at
    Source: https://youtu.be/U1id5TxS8bs
  • Can import a shopping list from EDSY to the resources panel. See the video on how this is done at
    Source: https://youtu.be/qeLnq-pU14
  • Support DLL panels. DLL can export a panel to EDD which can be inserted into the UI just like any built in panel. Updated DLL interface with more features. Example DLL which you can build immediately is at https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscoveryAdditionalDLLs
  • Import dialog - you can now drop a file onto the import pad (or type yourself) and import that way, instead of naming a file
  • Search queries - you can now get information on siblings of top level bodies, such as stars, using sibling[]
  • EDD now accumulates touchdowns and approach body settlements and assigned them to the body you've landed on. You can see that in the scan text of a body or via the compass drop down.
  • Add surface temperature to surveyor data output (selectable)

Fixed:

  • CAPI authorisation changed to fix error in Frontier servers. This was introduced by frontier at the start of March and requires a change to EDD to make it work again
  • Optimised modules/outfitting/shipyards/missions/factions to only refresh when required
  • Improve setting start/stop flags in travel history so its easier to work with - no refresh now needed
  • Update module list for update 14
  • SQL processing thread now waits forever for lock, in case that was causing some DB corruption
  • Sorting of suit names fixed in suit/weapons

Retracted:

  • Removed EDDB references and panel :-(
