EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

For you and everyone else getting this error, I've now fixed it. Please update and try again. Nothing else to do (let me know though).

I am still getting this error (Conversion from string "Medium" to type 'Integer' is not valid.) when switching profiles. After installing the latest Version (3.1.3.56) it went away immediately afterwards. But starting it after that, it is back again. Really strange.

Does no one else experience this?

Great tool btw! :)

Update: I just found out that saving the profile again fixes the error!

Yes, shame though, if you had sent me your files I could have prevented the error in future and included an auto-fix! Glad it's resolved though :)

Ok just updated EDProfiler adding jumps to "expedition mode" so you know where you are and what systems you've jumped through, and you can now double click the preview in the tone map tool to get a much larger one. It's currently limited to 1080p, and gamma 5 and HUD brightness 5.

EDIT: Another update that improves the logic of extra settings "Apply", so GUI profiles don't revert etc. should all work as you expect now. Tidied up the Tone Map stuff a bit too, and stopped the Tone Map drop down box from always displaying the top profile rather than the one of the selected profile

I could extend the large preview to give gamma and HUD options, but it will massively bloat the size of EDProfiler. If I do it in 4K, it will add about 22MB, if I do it in 1080p it will add about 7MB (EDP is currently 11MB).

What's your opinion guys, is it worth it? What would you prefer?

4K for me please :)

J

I've got a 4K screen, and I still think 1080p for a preview is enough. On my beast of a machine, doing a 4K preview calculation takes about 10 seconds! 1080p is almost instant. I'll need a few more people asking for it before I agree ;)

Just watched the latest video - great work DrKaii (I barely using a fraction of EDProfiler's power - it's awesome how much cool stuff is in there).

[up] (that's a "good work" thumbs up by the way ;))

Posting same question here:

There are two new settings in the Custom.fxcfg file, PerformanceQualitySetting and ResolutionSetting.

Could someone help me figure out what these do? I will add them to EDProfiler if worth it

How about downloading whichever size asset someone wants separately? Ship it with the default size and download the extra sizes on demand.

Quick comment on GalaxyBackground/TextureSize. For a long time now I've had this tweaked to 2048. Following the EDProfiler update, and forgetting why I'd settled on 2048 I bumped this up to 4096. The galaxy looked glorious but I kept noticing that the textures on my commander's body when I looked down were failing to load fully, resulting in very low resolution rendering. This rang some bell at the back of my mind from WAY back so on a hunch I lowered the galaxy setting back to 2048 ... problem solved. No idea why one would affect the other but it's definitely a thing. Thought people ought to be aware.

EDProfiler needs a launcher, like what EDFX 3.0.1.5 has. I'm using EDProfiler to launch the ED launcher, running VR on Rift so bypassing Steam.

Also when firing up ED Launcher via EDProfiler,
I'm also using running
"V" http://www.hellov.io/,
EliteG19s,
Discord,
Voice Attack,
Oculus Tray Too ( to manage audio )
Elite Galaxy Online comm link,
Elite Dangerous Market Connector
TeamSpeak ( sometimes if needed)
EDEngineer
EDDiscovery

in cockpit
Netflicks via "V" :)

Too late but I don't think that would have been feasible anyway.

I suspect VRAM balancing. I get this whenever my settings are ott

Surely you can do all that via the 'Custom files' functionality? For example you could get EDP to run a .bat which executes all those other programs.

Yes this is what custom files are for. And it doesn't just run bats, it will run anything. So stick all those in and they will all start when you hit apply

On Apply ? And not when you click the launcher on EDProfiler? Maybe rename custom files section, so we know what it does unless there's a help file index Ive missed

Why not feasible? ED is an online game, so connectivity is assured, and it'd just be a HTTP GET to your server/github/whichever file host you use. Most languages/frameworks have very easy-to-use network libraries these days so the code itself should be quite trivial as well.

Anyway; no big deal for me, was just throwing suggestions out.

On Apply yes (Launch is optional and not everyone uses it). I would consider renaming it if you have a better idea? I am not great with names. I think it is high time I add in a help section.

Oh it's certainly possible but it would be outside the spirit of what EDProfiler does, and the server i use is basically my friends server which he doesn't charge for, and other reasons as well.

I think it's a very good suggestion though, not knocking the suggestion me old friend, keep them coming

Came here to say that I really really love the 3.2 update, the extra settings are a fantastic addition to EDProfiler!

The only one that I seem to be missing is this one:
<Environment>
<Ultra>
<Item>
<Feature>GalaxyBackground</Feature>
<QualitySetting>3</QualitySetting>
</Item>
</Ultra>
</Environment>

That is often recommended to be increased together with the GalaxyBackground -> TextureSize. Other than that everything that I'm using is already in there.

I've been using EDProfiler for a couple of months now but hadn't posted in this thread before so let me say thank you for creating and maintaining it, it definitely took a lot of guesswork and hard work out of finding the optimal graphic settings!

DrKaiii the new tone mapping is simply amazing! I thought that re-shade was applied.I must say though that i had to reduce hud brightness to 1 and increase gamma in order to improve it a little.

more specifically, I'm looking for tips to drastically reduce the pond murk and cigarette smoke that's all over, without reducing ship interior contrast. (the spilled cafe-au-lait all over the Milky Way can stay). In addition, to decompress the brightness range of stars, and to have max visible magnitude of around 8.5, when 100 A.U. or so from a brown dwarf primary, degrading appropriately in proximity to light interference. Thanks for any help on this!
