Whilst using TCE I have found a few systems that don't exist within the game. The Data used for TCE was from a dump from EDSM (I belive) I have checked on EDSM site and have found 3 discrepancies:

CRUCIS SECTOR YE-A D142 [when searched for in game you're directed to >] PUPPIS SECTOR DL-Y D142

I think there was a bug in Elite Dangerous at some point where the hand-authored sectors had the wrong priority, thus the wrong name in EDSM.

Neither of these two can be found within the game, but are in EDSM
COL 173 SECTOR NL-L A28-5

That's odd. Surely FD hasn't been playing around with star density?

Interesting - searching for UCAC3 70-2386 comes up with nothing, yet entering Synuefe MA-K a103-0 takes you to a system named UCAC3 70-2386

The EDSM is tracking the wrong ship. It shows my asp in my fleet but it says that I am jumping in a Cobra. I use EDDiscovery and that correctly shows the asp as the ship i am in. How do I get the correct ship to show up on EDSM?

This is not available at the EDSM website ATM. The SQL behind that won't be too difficult, anyway. Maybe you should ask Anthor nicely to implement it?

In the API there is a function to request systems within a sphere or cube centered at a given system or coordinates, so you can write a little script or program to collect the systems' names and then check for known celestial bodies inside the systems.

Recently found that EDDB has the functionality that I am looking for. It is within the bodies, search function. No need to duplicate efforts.

Can someone explain to me the need for distances? I am looking at the featured systems in EDSM. I am relatively new, less than 2 months playing.

Does EDSM need distances from system-to-system or from arrival stars to bodies in a system?

I use EDMC and EDDiscovery and both are used to submit date to EDSM. I honk every system I go to with the advanced scanner and perform a detailed surface scan on all unexplored bodies. Is this sufficient to provide distance information or does it require a manual process?

HooDooMan: Other more experienced users might give more information but from what I know, this is used to be necessary prior to the 2.x update: Back then, Elite did not generated log files for all related in game activities hence the need to manually supply system coordinates. From what I understand, this is no longer mandatory.

Providing distances has to be done manually - either direct on the website or with the Trilateration tab in EDDiscovery.

Prior to 2.1 if we wanted the precise coordinates of any system other than the relatively small number FDev provided around launch we needed to enter distances between the unknown position and enough known ones that the coordinates could be trilaterated.

Since 2.1 the netlogs, and now journals, have provided the system coordinates so those are all known. Some people still enter distances either to fix coordinates for unvisited systems or to lock down the positions of systems visited prior to 2.1. There is no compulsion to do either of those things - but if you want to periodically enter some distances from your current position to the featured systems list (link on EDSM front page, downloaded into EDD every time you start a new trilateration) to help out those of us engaged in such activities nobody will complain

One minor issue though. Radius of stars in system bodies tab is shown in kilometers, but claims to be in solar radius.

And a bug report:
I think system Hegeia HQ-Y b55-2 ended up with wrong coordinates.

Is it possible to use the 'Routes' facility to plot in advance a long-distance voyage of several thousand ly? If it is possible, could somebody please enlighten me because when I enter a requested System I get 'system not recognised' or some such; and I am unsure as to how to proceed.

Since EDSM relies on visiting and reporting systems (either manually or through the Companion API), if no one's ever been there, then there's no data. EDSM does not contain all 100 billion stars

Although here's an idea for Anthor: how about using Jackie Silver's algorithm to deduce approximate position from the system name, which could then be used in a route? Maybe marked with an "approximate" mention.

Quick questions about my profile and my fleet...

1) How often does the site get updated with my profile information? Seems that when I dock or update EDMC manually it does get uploaded but visible until maybe next day?
2) The "My Fleet" tool is quite handy (after I worked out I needed to log into each ship then click update button in EDMC)! Question, how do you gain updates on ship paint jobs as several of mine are not showing up in the tool (just the outline and a question mark)?

Cheers and great effort with this tool, it's now one of my favourites!
