Release EDSM - Elite Dangerous Star Map

Hi. Thanks for the reply. It autocompleted. I'm not seeing anyway to enter it manually
you have to log out all Xbox and microsoft accounts in that browser or use Private/incognito windows...
This then lets you put in only the single Account For the live account you play elite on after hitting the Xbox icon..

I just got my son interested in ED and got him signed up with EDSM. We're playing ED on the same PC (different sessions, not at the same time at this point), and using the two separate "EDLaunch.exe" files in the EDLaunch folder to sign in method. I've read some mixed info out there, concerning journal files, etc. What do we do about importing his journal files to EDSM? As far as I can tell, there aren't separate journal files; do I just import the files and EDSM somehow identifies what applies to his commander vs what applies to mine?

EDSM does not auto import PC files you have to Manualy select them. Only the consoles user have an auto uploader ...
This allows you to select only his log files on pc when logged in on His EDSM account...

If using an automated uploaded plug in built in to many addons you have to login with the EDSM profile to that plug in and change whos logged in each time you play... some addons allow multi account storage for multi accounts...
Each EDSM account a has an EDSM Api key its this key that notifies EDSM which edsm account to alter with the data...

I guess my question is which journal files do I import into EDSM? As far as I can tell, there are two separate EDLaunch.exe files (labeled "EDLanch, exe" and "EDLaunch(EEJ).exe") in the EDLaunch folder, but there is only one "Elite Dangerous" sub-folder in the "Frontier Developments" folder (in "saved games"), and that contains ALL the journal files. Is there a way/need to differential between his journal files and mine, or do I import it all and EDSM uses the API key to identify what information it uses?

You could open a cmd window and use in the journal folder
Code:
findstr /c:"commanderid" /m *.log > commandername.txt
to get a textfile containing all journal names of that commander.
The commanderid can be found in the journal files, open one and search for FID, the number starting with "F" is what you need.

But maybe using a third party app to upload the files would be way easier.

Thanks, this worked. But I can see where this will quickly get tedious. I only had to identify 9 of my son's log files mixed in with 70+ of my log files. Is there a third party app you would suggest?

Also, if I import a block of journal files to EDSM and accidentally include a journal that I've previously imported, does EDSM just overwrite the duplicate or is it finicky?

Greetings Cmdrs

Ive been topping up on some exploration data before cashing in with LYR allegiance. using EDSM and EDDiscovery as i go and im noticing some real disparity in the values reported. EDDiscovery doesn't seem to recognise that 'in bubble' systems dont have a 'discovered marker', so seems to value some of them as first Discovered. EDSM seems to consistantly under value systems (except sometime, as below, when it wildly goes over!?). here's some comparisons. Anyone have any idea which is the more accurate (not that it matters still going to scan and cash), just wondered what other people had experienced and if there's legit reason the values seem random.

Those damned bubble bodies are impossible to to get right. (See this conversation for details.) In the next version of EDD those will always be handled as already discovered and already mapped as we think it's better to undervalue them than to give false hopes.
As for the other bodies: I guess you're playing Odyssey? There's a about 30% mapping bonus in Odyssey that EDSM doesn't calculate, so if you're using Odyssey EDDs values are higher (and correct - see the first post in the thread I linked above for details).

€: I did the calculations: EDD is right, EDSM doesn't seem to recognise that those bodies are already discovered and mapped.
E.g. the WW of your second shot has a base value of 260008, taking into account the discovered/mapped tags this has to be multiplied by 3.3333333 for mapping and 1.3 for the Odyssey bonus to get the non-effective mapping value of 1126701.
Now EDSM doesn't get the tags, so it thinks it's untouched, therefor it multiplies the base value by 3.699622554 for first mapping and then multiplies it by 2.6 for first discovering it to get a value of 2501021 (rounding errors apply).

Thanks for that. didnt know about the EDO bouns!! great tools to have and very grateful to all 3rd parties for their efforts.

EDSM not updating on my end. Tried everything, including suggestions handed to me earlier in this thread. Blue bar updates to the current time but just reloads and none of my information is added and stored. Just resets to a much earlier time

This site's got so many issues. The FAQ having no information on how to resolve errors like these is hilariously bad

Greetings Cmdrs,

I've been lurking in the shadows for some time, but this is my very first posting in this forum, so here goes:

I re-installed ED on a new PC recently, restored my backups of all important local files, was good to go, looked at the galaxy map... aaaaaaand I forgot to backup VisitedStarsCache.dat. I didn't visit tens of thousands of systems yet, but still, it's a loss.

( Longer explanation for those who don't know this: if you select 'visited stars' in the galaxy map, the game looks them up in a binary file called VisitedStarsCache.dat, located in \Users\{your_username}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\{your_cmdr_id}, at least on Windows. The galaxy map doesn't fetch your flight logs from the servers or from your local journal files. So after you reinstall the game with an empty VisitedStarsCache.dat, the galaxy map doesn't show your visited systems anymore, even though theoretically, the game knows your whole travel history. )

Whelp. Searched the forums. Found ImportStars.txt. Was really excited! Found out that ImportStars.txt doesn't work anymore. Was sad.

Then found this tool called VisitedStarCacheMerger by Suremaker. It's great. Was excited again! Exported my EDSM flight logs via the website. Saw that it generated a list with system names, but VisitedStarCacheMerger needs a list with numbers. Was sad again! I gathered that - and please somebody do correct me if I'm wrong - VisitedStarCacheMerger needs EDSM's internal system IDs as input.

Well. I guess I could programm a script that could translate system names into system IDs, but I'm sh**ty at programming even the most basic script with API calls to EDSM and whatnot. So here is my humble question: would it be at all possible to add a simple option to EDSM's export function? One button would still export the flight logs as system names, another new button would export the flight logs as system IDs. With this, everybody could just recreate their deleted stars cache with
> VisitedStarCacheMerger.exe VisitedStarsCache.dat Exported-System-IDs.txt

At least that's how I think it could work. If that's not possible to implement due to technical stuff, lack of time or simply real life, I completely understand.
Thanks, THANKS! to all of the third party app developers out there. Your tools are as important for the whole ED experience as the game itself. At least for me.

Fly boldly. o7

One of my friends on my friends list never shows up on my Friends feed in the game. Not one of the friends she has in game show up in her feed at all (three of her friends are confirmed on EDSM, me being one of them).

She has EDSM, imports to EDSM via the API Key via EDDiscovery and yet nothing. I replicated my account settings verbatim on hers and still nothing. Also she keeps getting a "Token invalid, please login with Frontier Auth Service". Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

EDDiscovery does not send the following events to EDSM:
Code:
        { // Discard spammy events
            "CommunityGoal",
            "ReceiveText",
            "SendText",
            "FuelScoop",
            "Friends",
            "UnderAttack",
"FSDTarget" // disabled 28/2/2019 due to it creating a system entry and preventing systemcreated from working
        };

The Friends event is also only generated if both players are logged into Elite Dangerous at the same time.

We were right next to each other for a few sessions for a couple of days.. more than once since she had EDSM.

Gary
EDDiscovery doesn't send Friends events to EDSM, so EDSM would not have been receiving those events with which to populate your friends tab.

One thing you and they can try is directly uploading the relevant journals to EDSM.

I will try that. Wish you could get search for a Friend and add them that way. Seems to be a heck of a lot easier.

If the "Friend" event does not send, how did my other friends appear?

I apologize - manual syncs from EDDiscovery won't send Friends events, and only the first Friends event in a burst will be sent while EDDiscovery is running (due to event merging).

If EDDiscovery is started before the game starts, then EDDiscovery will send the first Friends event it sees in the journal when you load into the game. Further friend has come online events are sent as they come in, provided either there are intervening events or enough time passes between events.

I think there are plans to fix EDDiscovery so they are sent to EDSM before any merging occurs.
