Elite / Frontier Elite - Amiga Version - Detail questions

Hmmm... Interesting; so, the mission comes up, if you're at 140K points _AND_ in galaxy 2 apparently.
I am (still) not quite at 190K points and in galaxy 2, but I was at 140K (and at 180K points) in galaxy 1; so _maybe_ at 190K points, I'll finally get my first mission.

How are the hints to the whereabouts of the Constrictor formulated? Do you get the name of the system in which it was last seen, redborg?

Meh! Still nothing at 190140 points :(.

Redborg: You said you tested the mission by getting past 140K a couple of times. Did you have a different number of hyper jumps in galaxy 2 in those attempts?

Rob... Rohoooob -- are you listening?! :) Please help...

i dont think so mate. it made me go to galaxy 3 to do the mission. i suspect you can get it in galaxy 1.

no mate. i had a save where i was at just under 140k i jumped killed a good few ships and got it on landing.

i went back to that save a couple of times and same result.

perfect repeatable experiment.

Yeah, _but_, in addition to the same score, you ALSO have the same hyper jump count; so it's either at 140K in galaxy 2 (because 140K in galaxy 1 does not work), or it's x hyper jumps... That's why I asked :)

how much game time do you have? i remember reading somewhere 20 years ago that game time was a factor though that may have been an urban myth.

i can experiment round jumps but only upwards

I have 1 day and a couple of hours of game time; I think 4 or something like that.

Could you try docking with _less_ than 140K points?
Again: Thanks for the help...

yeah i can try that.

you have more game time than me then. i am at 20 hrs.

i am seeing a lot more of witch space now. i wonder if its coincidence or if its a product of higher rating or my forced witch space jumps.

ok todays findings.

139k points one jump > dock nothing jump > dock = mission

previously i did two jumps got 3k points then docked and got mission.

i also went to galaxy 3 and got mission on second dock

i also went to galaxy 4 and got it on second dock.

it seems to be jump related.

i was a trader up till your intervention so perhaps i jumped a lot more than you.

Cool!

So, two possibilities that I see:

1. It's _only_ jump related. After x jumps, the mission is triggered (maybe with the additional constraint of having to have more than y credits). Might well be, because I frequently stopped at Anarchies and fired upon ships and just hovered before the safe zone...

2. It's jump related but jump count starts in galaxy 2. I came to gal 2 relatively late, but you said you also got the mission in Gal 1 -- so I think possibility 1 it is...

im not sure if you can get it in gal one. i did jump fairly early to gal 2 this time round.

you have to have 5 k credits as you have to do a gal jump as part of the mission.

actually i can test the 5k part.

if you can get it in gal 2 3 or 4 surely galaxy has no bearing on it. i think its points and jump related but it certainly isnt random or chance based.

I am returning to the Amiga version now after a spell on OOlite. I seem to have lost my touch when it comes to combat.
I usually go down the Large Cargo Bay --> Energy Unit --> Fuel Scoops --> Mil Lasers route and then head to off to do the Laenin Xexedi route until I have enough for a galactic Hyper-drive. From what I remember the constrictor mission usually kicks off around the time I can afford one of those. I do tend to do more fighting that trading though. The good thing about Lainin and Xexedi is they are so close to each other you can pirate and hyperspace out if it gets too hot and then do that back and forward untill your hold is full without having to dock or scoop fuel.
This time though - I keep dying. I am improving though. The last time I managed to get to military lasers before I died.
Perhaps I just need more practice. Hope I am not getting too old for it....
:D

So, deMangler, you're saying you get the Constrictor mission in Gal 1?!

Hmm. Maybe, there IS a random factor involved...
However, I have created a new commander and with him, I am _only_ hyperjumping from planet to planet, avoiding any combat (yes, of course I cheat to do this).

My current hypothesis (before your post) was that I need to gal jump to galaxy 2 (cheated myself to a gal hyperjump), and then hop from planet to planet x times (23 so far). If I have above 5000 Cr, the Constrictor mission should be triggered.

As I remember yes. I am pretty sure, so if I am wrong then my memory is actually failing, which is of course possible. The Constrictor does make a Galactic hyperdrive jump where you have to follow it and that is why I used to save up for one. Don't know if the amount of cash you have is a trigger or not. I will make a point of not jumping to galaxy two and keep plugging away on the Amiga version until it either crops up or Dangerous is released! :D

Probably won't make it if I keep dying the way I am at the mo although I am improving. Reflexes or motivation must be less than they used to be. Also can't play all my waking hours any more....

Thanks for the help! :)
If the mission is triggered, would you please write down, how many points you scored and how much money you had at that point?
TIA!

Yep. At 60000 points at the mo and just chugging along killing pirates not doing anything too risky. I shouldn't die unless I get a particularly bad witch-space episode.
I'll let you know.

I'm playing Amiga Elite at the moment, and stumbled upon this thread a couple of days ago while searching for details about this particular version.

I was too waiting for the first mission to appear, so I decided to help you out a little bit. I just got the Constrictor mission, and my score tally is 55790 points. I'm in Galaxy 2, and been there for about half the game (10+ hours total gameplay time). I've got 88636.3 credits.

I did a little experiment by storing the Constrictor save and reloading the one before the mission (54200 points), and managed to dock with 54520 points, and got the mission again. Those are such arbitrary numbers that I'm thinking that the mission triggering may be about hyperjump count (maybe in Galaxy 2+), perhaps as long as certain other characteristics have been fulfilled.

Cool, Castaway!!

Your screenshot also reveals that the legal status (apparently) does not affect the trigger, as you are a fugitive... ;)

If you have been at galaxy 2 for about half of the game, that would be about 5 hours, and I think it would be safe to assume that you made approximately 32 hyper jumps in these 5 hours, right?! (I know, it's impossible to count in retrospect, but take an educated guess :)). So 32 hyper jumps in galaxy 2 including 1 gal jump to trigger the Constrictor mission (and say > 5000 Cr). Sounds reasonable?! 5 hours = 300 minutes, makes 9 minutes and 15 seconds per hyper jump. Hmm... Ok, maybe 32 is too low. But I think 64 hyperjumps are too many. Maybe somewhere in between.

In any case: Thanks for the help!
Can we conclude that the Constrictor mission is never triggered in Galaxy 1?! Has anyone ever gotten it in Galaxy 1 (I _seem_ to remember I have, but I may be mistaken).
