Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous 2.1 Beta 4 Patch Notes

  • "Recipes should now be referred to as blueprints"

Thank heavens. I was concerned my engineering degrees had only qualified me to be a chef. (Not that there's anything wrong with being a chef!)

A huge Thanks to FDEV and all you hard working beta testers for finding and fixing all these issues so we can have a much cleaner release version of 2.1. Great Work to all involved!

*sigh* Another Data.ovl validation error for me. That's 4 Betas in a row I haven't been able to install on different machines.

Sorry to hear it, Sandmann. This is the one that went in without a hitch for me, Which file is it, I can e-mail you a copy if you want?

Can developers confirm that blurry ice worlds are getting better or are they now as intended. It would end that debate.

Playing a mission runner is so much fun, game really starts to make sense now. Interdiction frequency and context with the BGS improved, the awesome and surprisingly diversified pg mission givers (including their background pictures!) and all these little details... Thank you so much FD, really really love it! [heart]

Yeah, some nice touches. Salvage missions where you use the Nav Beacon to find the target, rather than wandering about aimlessly (or worse, standing still and waiting for the wreck to find you). Targets drop more interesting loot, and it's a bit of a race to scoop it all. Fun fun fun.

Great job!
On my Geforce GTX 770 planet surface generation is a LOT better, even with relative high Q setteins. Went from 1..15 FPS to 55 FPS. (Settings limited to 60fps).
I also like the new settings menu layout a lot better.
I had some trouble upgrading the previous beta, this time, beta 4 upgrade one went a lot smoother.
I hope I get to more in-depth tesing this weekend '-^(∞)^-'

Deleted the entire PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 folder and reinstalled with the same error.

I also deactivated the Chache in the Launcher Options I also tried it 3 or 4 times but it worked in the end for me. Maybe try in the Launcher options too the Alternative Donwload.

Mine didn't have an extension. It was just called VirtualCache. Lived in the Products folder (i.e. outside the PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64 folder). I tried moving it somewhere rather than delting it, in case it was important, but the installer just recreated it and the game updated properly.

Subsequent failures have been dealt with by deleting *.part and *.progress only.

Yeah it did, you just couldn't see it coz you haven't got "show extensions for known file types" turned on. All the extensions are still there but windows hides them by default, but I started using PC's under DOS 3.0 and I miss them when I can't see them. :p Where are the .part and .progress files? From the names I'd guess they're download manager files for partly downloaded updates.

Cmdr Marc_Hicks has very kindly emailed me not only the data.ovl I was having problems with but two more than he'd had problems with too. I put the first one in and was able to get the download to continue then had issues with the second one he sent me. Have since replaced that with HIS version and the download's continuing just fine again now... and I'm just waiting for the third one he sent to cause me problems. *SURPRISE* It just popped up while I was typing that, and it WAS the same one he'd had problems with. I've just restarted the download and it's working fine again as expected.

The interesting thing about this is it proves that it's not just some random isp or router induced error. If we've BOTH had problems with the SAME three files then it HAS to be something at FDev's end coz that's the ONLY common element. Download's about half finished, Will watch with interest to see how the rest of it goes.

Fantastic amount of changes in such a short time. I'm worried the adjustments to the heat damage of Thermal Shock won't be enough as my feedback from testing consisted of being targeted by only a single beam, not 6+ and I found the 300% heat threshold and module damage to be a bit too much. I'll give this area some focus testing.

Thanks for the patch! :)
