But it was a little confusing, to be fair. The launcher said Server status: Good. It took me until I tried to actually start the game (mode selection and all), that I got a message that the game was under maintenance.

At first I thought we'll get it when the server is brought down, but reading Paul's 1st post again it seems the patch notes will only be shared when the server goes live again. Not sure why the change, but oh well.

The wording in the original post is "Full patch notes will be available alongside the release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy."

I think that just means "don't expect them to arrive before the release day" - they'll probably still be published before the release is live. The same wording has been used on a lot of previous releases.

(While Frontier's server staff are in early to start the release, the CMs are going to have a long day ahead and are hopefully getting in at a more sensible time and having a big drink before checking the forums and posting the patch notes)
