News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

Never happened to me, but... pre-flight checks are nice things to do.

Do you remember Horrible September or did you join later?

It had nothing to do with pre-flight checks, but serialization of JSON structures and such, and besides, whacky UI programming in terms of REST calls and all the like. But FD learned from it, and the game is remarkably stable since they fixed Odyssey (Horrible September was in times of the now-called Legacy game though).

O7,
🙃

So, do we need to back to the past?

Greetings Commanders!

In order to ensure the best possible experience we have made a small change to the release date of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, to adjust an issue with NPCs still being more aggressive than intended.

Thursday 31 October sees the eagerly awaited release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, featuring the new Mandalay exploration ship, Powerplay 2.0 and more!

Here's when things kick off:
  • 06:00 GMT - Maintenance begins and Elite Dangerous servers offline
  • 15:00 GMT - Maintenance complete and Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy is available
Please note that these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Full patch notes will be available alongside the release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy.

Things to be aware of

  • Powerplay ranks will be reset when Ascendancy is available. You will need to pledge to a Power if you wish to get involved with Powerplay on release.
  • The Mandalay will be available as early access via Arx initially. It will be available for credits in the future.
Personally I would have rather had to have waited until November 5th or 12th to allow the greatest amount of people to have money to pay for the Mandalay

Comparing an update that's delayed by the grand total of a week to the biggest crowdfunding black hole in gaming history that's over a decade late seems a bit extreme?

From what I heard, nobody would want Chris Roberts on the team, and given the Wing Commander film, I tend to believe it. Besides, rumours are that SC is running out of money, despite Squadron 42. But what do I know 🤷‍♂️

It could be an absolute bloodbath where most of the powers lose half their systems in a single week if enough players go on the attack and don't let the Powers establish a properly overlapping defensive structure first.
... or if the Thargoids just so happen to strike one of those stronghold/fortified systems in whatever they're going to do to mess with humans while Cocijo is around to serve as a forward base for them. Maybe not as much loss as your scenario but it could happen.
tired, disappointing and sad.. Chris Roberts may have been hired..
No, we actually have a release date.

The only thing 'ascending' here is the release date.
Come on guys, pull your fingers out, jeez! Stop doing release dates you can't stick to.

whilst FD have slipped on a number of release dates and content deliveries over the years ... i really do not think a couple of days delay to tone down a few bits and bobs flagged in internal beta is something to fret about.

i hope the big reveal due on wednesday still goes ahead however

@CMDRRustyDog

You’ve been around long enough to remember what happened the last updates was rushed out.:p

Personally I would rather wait until it’s ready without game breaking bugs.

Fly safe
You know that it does not matter how many times they delay it? It will be broken and buggy, as it always have been. I dont remember a single update that did not break anything.
Either dont give any release date and try your best to make it right or just release it and fix it later. But delay after delay wont make anything better

AFAIK, it was said that the "new feature" would be revealed in the next FU.
Speculation engine has been going BRRRR for far too long. Fdev would be better just announcing it straight away lol instead of saying a brand new feature to elite, and then leaving 10 months for speculation and people to get their hopes up.

  • Ship Interiors?
  • Player Bases?
  • Different Planet Types?
  • NPC Crew?
  • Vending Machines?

You see, more people will be probably be disappointed now when it finally gets revealed. FDev never manages expectations very well I don't think.
