Elite Dangerous | Ascendancy Update 1 - Thursday 21st November

No merits for rare goods or anything really. Acquisition Systems now need you to find other CMDR's in order to make ANY MERITS.
No TRADING no NOTHING...... it's a dog's dinner.....
Following this morning's patch it's been reenabled. I just got 100 merits from 64T of rares; I had to deliver some as a weekly assignment. Reports say ship scanning merits are up, and I'm sure more will be learned as the afternoon wears on.

EDIT: Those merits might have just been from the assignment, not the rare trade itself.

Or bounty hunting, or collecting escape pods, or holoscreen hacking, or completing support missions, or scanning ships or wakes, ...

There's quite a list actually.

From our early experiments it seems that the points that is actually applied to systems for the fight of control seem to be a quater of the Merits a player earn (4:1), is there any hope to get a confirmation of that this is consisten throughout and no matter the activity?
It is tricky to judge what different activites are rewarding to our systems (When we're not caring about merits towards rank and leaderboard) without any numbers showing in game about that other than the systems updating once every hour.

Can we please just decouple the modules from merits?

Make them tied to completing the weekly assignments somehow. That way people can't unlock them all at once, but it also won't take forever to do.
And then the merit rates can be tweaked to whatever they need to be for BGS stuff without affecting the people playing primarily for the unlocks.

Ideally, you would have to complete somewhere between 1 and 3 weeks worth of assignments to unlock a module. Completing the weekly assignments takes about an hour, so it would respect casual players' time. But since they are weekly, people can't just blitz through unlocking everything immediately.
This… is a good idea!!

At work right now, can't check - are the rares back in merits?
Afraid not, just tested with a run out to Ngurii, no merits for trading them in the centre of the bubble.

Escape pods are still zeroed too, but with lots more credits for wreckage and black boxes, which along with the extra merits for swatting enemies and pirates, and also for scanning, is more than made up for; Seems that the combat pilots have been well looked after this time.

So why do I have to kill 8500 pirates, which would take about two years, to get two modules? Players complained about engineering material farming, and you fixed that, now you introduce something 10x worse? Not just a clown, but the whole circus made this decision.

Was getting connection errors up until I need to log out half an hour ago. Prior to that I dod a long range rescue - 4kLy 27j would normally take 30 mins max... I took an hour due to various colourful snake errors. (Mainly mauve adders, but there was an opal cobra in there )

The reason for the need for the rescue? It turned out that the galaxy map filters emptying bug confused them.....

So, just tested. What 'balance' are you trying to achieve? Its a joke and frankly I'm very disappointed.

A test Powerplay wing of a T-7 and two Eagles is nearly 800 merits on destruction. These ships do not fire back and run when attacked. Then I kill a non Powerplay ship that fights back, has police attack me as well as BHs etc I get 44 merits still, a 3.7 million bounty and security that uses weapons. Unless you are some streamer who can't deal with being shot at, how is this supposed to be balanced? To replicate this I just enter SC, drop from SC and pop, another wing of placid power pinatas appears.

I find it incredible that you can make NPCs worse than Powerplay 1 while at the same time have the BGS sec response be better. When will you be upping NPC difficulty? I'm asking myself will you ever?

Utter nonsensical crap, FD.

They have had a pretty good set-up to start with, then nerfed the hell out of it. Now you have to engage in combat in order to make a few merits. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. For some reason, that FDev haven't explained yet, they want to make everything a grind to kingdom come. The sad news is, FDev thinks that they will keep the current high player numbers, because of PP 2.0...... for some reason, I can't see that happening. The screwing around with the merit system makes PP 2.0 worse than PP 1.0

Greetings Commanders,

Powerplay 2.0 has been out for a few weeks now and we are really grateful for all the feedback and reported issues you have shared.

Our intent with our balancing is to ensure a diversity of gameplay activities are viable within Powerplay 2.0, and that no activity feels significantly weaker than any other. We are continually closely monitoring for any activities which could be disproportionally more advantageous to undertake than any other, potentially creating a meta that players feel forced to play in order to rank up or participate in the conflict.

Following prevention of several exploits we will now be in a position to improve balance on the overall experience of Powerplay 2.0. We will be closely looking into:
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to earn early modules
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to increase ranks
In the meantime we are releasing Ascendancy Update 1 (19.01) on Thursday 21 November.

Release Schedule (All times in UTC)

  • 07:00 - Servers offline for maintenance
  • 11:00 Servers back online and Update available
Please note these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Update Notes

Powerplay 2.0
  • Fixed an exploit where Powerplay Data could be downloaded multiple times from the same Data Port (Issue ID: 67329)
  • Aisling Duval's Powerplay systems now correctly flag Imperial Slaves & Narcotics as illegal. Crime does not pay.
  • Archon Delain Powerplay systems now correctly open Black Markets if they are not already present. OK...here crime might pay.
  • Pranav Antal now closes Black Markets in Fortified/Stronghold systems.
  • Merit awards for destroying Ship Launched Fighters have been reduced.
Ships
  • Adjustments made to Flight Tutorial combat drones reducing their damage output.
  • Type-8's collision has been adjusted so that the "arms" now have correct collision.
Galaxy Map
  • Resolved a crash when using VR Power Play strategic view on Galaxy map
  • Filters on the Galaxy Map are no longer auto selected when you hover your mouse over them
Thank you for all your continued feedback and reports!
When will we be able to get back on receiving merits for selling rare goods?

first you nerf almost all the methods for collecting alot of merits then you say that you "looking into" reducing the effort required to rank up?
pick a lane guys

Someone may have already commented, but I figured I'd help clear it up.
Right now the merit gain is 1:1 with power point gain per system. It sounds as if they are trying to decouple that to some extent. The nerfing is solely for the sake of powerplay being fair and actually competitive.

let's change name from Elite Dangerous to Harmless Novice

it's more fitting now, given the state of NPC difficulty of these pp npcs!
It is called dangerous because of the observation made by elite pilots that the only difference between themselves and those ranked dangerous, was the time served.

Which you are now reiterating.

Did you fight a wing of 3 eagles or vipers at level 5 yet? Surrounded by a wing of 3 nasties armed with rails and plasma, whilst also taking on two anacondas; I'd hardly call that easy; If it is to easy for you, try getting away with carrying some more cargo.

So Fdev nerfed the number of rares available in the stations and rares now earn zero merits.
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to earn early modules
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to increase ranks
This hasn't happened the first weapons modules are still rank 34 and same amount of merits. So I'm confused? You made the game more grind?

Our testing today suggest this is allready decoupled, seem like it is a 4:1 ratio atm, trying to get that confirmed, but since power point gain only updates every hour on the map screen, verifying is tricky and takes a bit of time.
