Elite Dangerous | Ascendancy Update 1 - Thursday 21st November

Its been almost a month now, no merit gain was buffed, nor ranks adjusted. Only nerfs.
If you can cut merits for SLF fighters so easy, means you can buff merit gains for actual npc ships same way.
What are you talking about - its been 14 working days since the release and they are releasing an update as I type. I'm sure it won't fix everything but its hardly been ignored lol

I think it's wrong for exobiology to be included in Powerplay 2.0. People are out there collecting exobiology data on a large scale over several weeks. Then you come back to the bubble, give it away and suddenly you are in the power play of your power at rank 100. Anyone who does exobiology already has the advantage of earning several billion. No other way of playing (trading, mining, bounty hunting) earns you more and doesn't even come close to the rewards of exobiology. The player out there pursuing exobiology in the vast universe is not exposed to the dangers that other players in the bubble are. Some players did exactly that at the beginning of Powerplay 2.0 (submitted exobiology data) and were suddenly way above rank 100. That's roughly compared to the other players in the bubble. I hope that exobiology is no longer included in Powerplay 2.0.
You could say the same for anything. "I think it's wrong for people to do trading because they can store stuff in their fleet carrier" or "I think it's wrong for people to do combat because not everyone wants to do combat".

Don't pick on one activity just because you don't do it.

Shouldn't the servers be back online by now or did I get the UTC wrong?

this unironically would improve exo gameplay: a way to do some experiments on them.
There are "experimental habitats" in Colonia, artificial man-made ones, where various life forms were transported and are observed. These would be great locations for such gameplay.

Space-based lifeforms do have some experimentation possible, in that they react to various stimuli.

You don't get any financial reward for doing so but it does fill out your Codex entry for them a bit.

Hmmmm. did the notes get edited this morning? It sems that the following fot added to the fix list:
Galaxy Map
  • Resolved a crash when using VR Power Play strategic view on Galaxy map
  • Filters on the Galaxy Map are no longer auto selected when you hover your mouse over them
The second fix there is not how I'd have described the filter settings population issue, but even as written it might help to a degree...... Here's hoping.....
The filter settings issue still exists. The 2nd fix mentioed above is as written. It's a now a couscous click to click to select a filter. However when you get there, the previous settings that you had set are not restored. This means that if you exit the filter UI without restoring the filter content, you end up with saving an empty filter, no stars on galaxy maps, and if you plot a route (expecting to be filtered on scoopable stars) a faceful of brown and white dwarfs..... :(

Greetings Commanders,

Powerplay 2.0 has been out for a few weeks now and we are really grateful for all the feedback and reported issues you have shared.

Our intent with our balancing is to ensure a diversity of gameplay activities are viable within Powerplay 2.0, and that no activity feels significantly weaker than any other. We are continually closely monitoring for any activities which could be disproportionally more advantageous to undertake than any other, potentially creating a meta that players feel forced to play in order to rank up or participate in the conflict.

Following prevention of several exploits we will now be in a position to improve balance on the overall experience of Powerplay 2.0. We will be closely looking into:
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to earn early modules
  • Significantly reducing the amount of time/effort required to increase ranks
In the meantime we are releasing Ascendancy Update 1 (19.01) on Thursday 21 November.

Release Schedule (All times in UTC)

  • 07:00 - Servers offline for maintenance
  • 11:00 Servers back online and Update available
Please note these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Update Notes

Powerplay 2.0
  • Fixed an exploit where Powerplay Data could be downloaded multiple times from the same Data Port (Issue ID: 67329)
  • Aisling Duval's Powerplay systems now correctly flag Imperial Slaves & Narcotics as illegal. Crime does not pay.
  • Archon Delain Powerplay systems now correctly open Black Markets if they are not already present. OK...here crime might pay.
  • Pranav Antal now closes Black Markets in Fortified/Stronghold systems.
  • Merit awards for destroying Ship Launched Fighters have been reduced.
Ships
  • Adjustments made to Flight Tutorial combat drones reducing their damage output.
  • Type-8's collision has been adjusted so that the "arms" now have correct collision.
Galaxy Map
  • Resolved a crash when using VR Power Play strategic view on Galaxy map
  • Filters on the Galaxy Map are no longer auto selected when you hover your mouse over them
Thank you for all your continued feedback and reports!
Slightly confused by the update notes - are we saying the balancing (i.e. ensuring the PP activities are well balanced) is still yet to come or has it been implemented already?

it's not just about military domination but about social, cultural, technological and financial domination.

Just like all wars.

But it's not like any of the ingame powers wants to rely on peaceful methods only. Even the most peaceful ones are perfectly willing to attack you guns blazing. There are power CZs in contested systems. My alt is pledged to Nakato Kaine, who doesn't sound like a particularly warlike personality, still she was happy to reward my alt with tons of merits for massacring everyone at enemy stronghold carriers. Winter is another relatively peaceful power according to her ethos, still they seem to be okay with attacking my Archer-pledged main account whenever, despite both of said powers belonging to the Federation. :)
