Engineering Feedback

Thank you to everyone that submitted valuable feedback to our forum post on Engineering. It certainly proved a popular topic, eh? We're now taking that information and sharing it with the development team.

Anti-Xeno Weaponry

We continue to monitor and listen to all your feedback on the current state of Anti-Xeno combat. The introduction of Salvation's new weapons are helping us gauge your preferences, and how we can tweak the balance of these weapons to improve the Thargoid combat experience.

Multi-Limpet Controllers

Alongside the new SRV, you'll also find the new Multi-Limpet controllers available for purchase. This will allow you to take one controller that can fulfill a number of different tasks, saving you valuable space and weight on your ship. You'll find a table below showing how we are planning to divide the functionality of the controllers. We'll of course be listening to your feedback in the next few weeks once you get your hands on them and put them to work!

Encounter Mission Givers

With the arrival of Update 9, you'll also begin to see NPCs at various settlements throughout the galaxy offer missions for you to take. These missions will be tied to the faction of the settlement you are in, and will act in a similar way to the mission givers you'll find at stations. The added risk? These mission givers are vulnerable. We look forward to seeing you meet the new mission givers, and we're ready to hear your thoughts.

Memorial Beacon Changes

We believe that the ability to memorialise your lost loved ones is incredibly important, and we're grateful that so many of you wish to do so within the Elite galaxy. Earlier this year, we launched a new initiative, where Commanders could visit memorial beacons around the galaxy that paid respect to all of our lost loves ones. We are looking to continue this approach, but we are slightly tweaking the way you submit a name to be added to the memorial beacons, please head to this forum post from Bruce to read more.

Private Elite Virtual Meetup Event

Due to ongoing concerns with the new COVID-19 variant, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Elite Dangerous Community Meet, which you can read more about here. We'll be putting on a virtual meetup soon for anyone that purchased a ticket. More details in the near future!

Galaxy Report

You've been very busy over the past few weeks participating in a number of Community Goals and in-game events! It's good to see many of you in the fight against Thargoids as the attacks continue to increase in the Nebula Systems. With no significant support from Aegis or Salvation, it's been down to you to repel the attacks. Are you expecting Aegis or Salvation to come to your aid soon?

The Scriveners Clan Dredger is now back on the move thanks to the efforts of many Commanders to help them bypass Orion's security codes. You really fought against the odds to pull that off, so congratulations to all involved, and commiserations to those who were working on the side of Orion - that Knowledge Core is now out of your grasps.

Community Spotlight

Keep an eye on Operation IDA's Hauliday Haul this week and throughout the month of December! They're raising money for Doctors Without Borders, and you can get involved with all of the events, including this weekend's Geyser SRV Shenanigans and David vs Goliath activities!

Question of the Week

It's time to settle the debate once and for all - which way do you position your ship when fuel scooping? Are you a side-scooper, do you angle the top of your ship to face the star, or the bottom? Let me know!

---

Let me know what you think of this expanded schedule post - we've noticed that you tend to use the Community Schedule posts as a hub for discussion for the week, so it may make sense for us to add more detail here for talking points. If there are other sub-sections that you would like to see included on such posts, let me know! I have plans to highlight events on the upcoming Community Calendar here, for example. There will certainly be weeks with less to share, however, so not every week would be paragraphs long.

See you in the week, Commanders!

Console community is still being left out by Fdev and the CM's, this silence is beyond a joke now. anything would be better than this.

this answer is the main reason everyone is getting upset and don't help with it being repeated. at this point, we need a real update, not the same PR message from 6 months ago.

Any news on consoles? ;)
Yes, apparently my source* claims that to ensure console users get the best possible version of ED, they are waiting for it to be feature complete. This will probably be about a week before the servers are switched off and coupled with a simultaneous re-release of the macOS client.

If this is disappointing, tough, they are the authors, you are the audience; they outrank you!
(a Christmas Cracker if you know which film I plagarised that from)

*Disclaimer: I have no source of course!

Will our NPC crew be able to sit in the seats of the new SRV and the ship?
This is the second time seeing this request in the thread, I agree that this is something that can be hopefully be close to the top of the list to make happen once things settle down some more. It would be even better if they could walk around with you but there again, that may be why it hasn't happened yet! That sounds not so simple to implement after all and you know that's going to be next "why can't they get out etc... bah FDev baaaaaaadd". But that would be pretty awesome to have a crew that has your back and that you can outfit etc...

Do you have any information on Odyssey on consoles?
There currently isn't any new information to share in terms of Odyssey on consoles. We hear you, as soon as we do have something worth sharing with you, we will. At the moment, work is focused on PC optimisation.

But... there are multiple new features. Like I'm sure you are spending lots of effort on optimisation... but there are new non-odyssey features. Literally IN THE SAME POST you list them.
  • Multi Crew SRV is not PC optimisation.
  • FC interiors... maybe, could be if you stretch it.
  • Limpet controllers are not PC optimisation.
  • Anti-Xeno weapons changes are not PC optimisation.
  • Encounter mission givers are possibly the result of optimisation, but it seems like a new feature.
  • Engineering feedback is probably design teams... but it's not PC optimisation either.
All of these things are higher priority then planning updates to console.

Funnily horizons for Mac is looking more likely then odyssey for console. The new M1 family is probably faster ;-)

Of course they need to port to ARM first.
