Elite Dangerous Exobiology Rank Threshold Rebalance Information

We've run some numbers on ranks and on the limited data sets we've got at the moment the rewards went up 20 fold with patch 14, but the 14.01 rank limits were increased 30 fold.
This means some people will see rank demotions above and beyond that of a simple balance, even if they didn't take part of Exo between 14 and 14.01.

A 10x rank increase would have been fine, but 30, that's harsh. Even if it turns out to be 20 I'd still be put off doing any more Exo.
Just out of curiosity what does this amount to in stratum tectonica?

I remember pre-U14 it was at least 100-150 first discovered stratum tectonica (the optimal plant to scan since it's plentiful and easy to spot) to get an elite rank.

im 30% towards the 1st rank with 6,810,000 credits from exobio, which would imply the first rank is 22,700,000, if so - it's a 15x increase
which would put Geneticist to 3.24 billions, Elite Rank to 6.6 billions and Elite V to 23.1bn

an issue, for people that were Geneticists at 220 millions, now they're only Collectors (new rank 192 millions)

that is IF the 15x ranking multiplier is correct

Hi FDEV,

I made Elite in Exobiology on 09-NOV (that's 20 days before Update 14 dropped) and was working towards Elite I with over Cr92m held on board, having already progressed ~11% (basically I would have been at 53% to Elite I. I have since sold further data I should be further along.

Frontier, why didn't you apply the same multiplier to everyone's already-handed-in Exo data before resetting the ranks? Then when you changed the rank levels, everyone would be aligned with the new schema. Instead, you've taken all the Exo work that was done before the payment increase and made it completely worthless. I can't believe that anyone at FD actually thought this through properly.

I know that you're working with something of a skeleton team compared with earlier years, but I'm just one person without access to the database, so if I can figure it out, I would actually expect you guys to be able to.

Our total credits score from handing in/selling bio samples is what is used to trigger the ranks, now they have increased the number of credits required to trigger each rank and when they did that they made sure that the highest rank we had reached was kept even though our credits total was no longer high enough to trigger that rank which is why people went to 0% rank.
What it seems they haven’t done is put a flag in there to prevent us being awarded a lower rank when our credits score reaches that trigger.

Please tell me we’ve not been retrospectively demoted….surely this is a mistake and not the intent.

Surely????
Well for those who didn’t jump on the gold rush I am sure it is an oversight, or maybe a punishment for not grinding the opportunity.

I tried to warn those who wanted a rank progress adjustment as well that this might happen.

Sorry you (and a few more) had to be the sacrificial lamb. :(

Be fair now, that few more is everybody who had done some exobiology and was intending to do more.

Disemboweled Ego, the new rewards have been updated in the wiki, they seem to match my findings.

Note: the rank figures haven't been updated.

usually I can complete samples of a lot of different species in 10 minutes.

Sorry, no disrespect meant, but I call .

Unless I'm doing something horribly wrong, it takes me at least 3 minutes for a single species, and that's IF the clusters are really close from each other and on flat, smooth terrain.

My method is: drive to 1st cluster on SRV, get off, get sample, get back in SRV, drive to next cluster, rinse and repeat. Is there a fastest, more efficient way of doing this that I don't know about?

I really would like to see video evidence of complete sampling of ✌️"a lot"️✌️ of different species in 10 minutes, PLEASE.

It could be that the display label reset on the rank-up event is a mistake. But that you've been demoted is intent and was explained so in the original post. Your rank progress is lost and you will have to do the same work (or even more) to get it back again. Welcome to Elite, and pray that they don't alter the deal any further.

use the ship, not the srv
preferably a very small ship (i use a dbx and even it's a small ship, there are smaller and better ships for exobio)

I'm not saying, that it is my average time for whole planet with 3/4 signals

I said, that SOME SPECIES can take few minutes, not that "x different species combined require few minutes", my bad, I understand you could misunderstood me ;)

You know. "x thing can take few minutes" "y thing can take few minutes". And species, which require only few minutes to complete sample are...welp, big part of new bio content.
I think, that I could count more requiring stuff on 1 hand.

I even checked logs by EDD from last session.
13:08- first sample.
13:12-third sample.
So even if I find planet with 3/4 "easy" types of life it still isn't a lot of time.
(but I hate fungoidas)

This. I do it (well, did it, won't touch it with a ten-foot pole now) with an iCourier trimmed for speed. Take-off, keep gear down, skim around with NV on, spot bio, land again, hop out. Fastest method IMHO.

Since we're recommending ships for exobio, give the Viper MKIV a try. The jump range may not be as impressive as DBX or iCourier, but you get to exit from the front.

(I'm not sure where you exit in DBX; never flown one before, but I know you exit iCourier from the back)

DBX is in the back as well.

You do use the ship to make short hops and try to land in a place with 2 different species every 3 hops so you can finish up one and start on the next one without having to take off/land again. You also focus on stuff that grows in flat areas and ignore the stuff that only grows in extremely uneven terrain/cliff sides. If you don't see multiple other plants in the area while scanning the first one you go to another planet instead of wasting time finding a good area in a planet that might only have sparse plant life all over. This especially applies to bacteria - don't go for them while trying to be efficient unless you've seen many while looking for other plants and know they're plentiful and easy to spot.

The main time waster overall imo is overcommitting to trying to scan a plant that turns out to be hard to find when you could just go to another planet instead.

See I play more than that, and I my income is WAY less than that. Combat gives me about 5-7 million/hour. Exploration gives about 30 mil every 500-800 LY of DSS scanning travel. The bacterium I finally got that I mentioned above was a first discovery - 5 million total for that one when I turned it in at Coalsack.

I play more than a couple of hours a month, and I mix my time between cargo, combat, exploration but hardly touched mining. The Thargoid cargo pod rescuing while in my Anaconda (240 cargo slots) is about 20 million turn in. If I did that a couple of hours a month, I could possibly make that much, or fall short. That can wear a little much though with the repeated travel, hyperdictions/interdictions, etc.
Exploration could use a boost IMO, it's a bit low compared to other professions. Combat, you really need to fight thargoids to get the big payouts or do wings (or both), but solo late game farming CNBs, you can certainly get 30-50 million an hour. The point is that income levels aren't based on what you as an individual pull in, but rather what is possible when doing things in an optimal way. I do not make 100 million an hour every time I play the game, because sometimes I'm prioritizing other things over making credits, but there are lots of options for making 100 million credits an hour if you know how to do it, and that's really what the balancing should be targeted towards.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with making less than 100 million an hour playing however you want. There's a lot more to this game than making credits, but if you have credits too easily, it can throw off the early game as well as the idea is that people kind of work there way up and learn as they go before they have tons of options to pick from. Throw that off too far and people will end up advancing too quickly and just end up lost or frustrated as this game gives almost nothing to guide players other than help from other players.
