Elite Dangerous: Halloween Event 2022

When you say "Horizons 3.8 commanders", does that include PS4 and Xbox players also, or is it just PC only?!

If it does include us "poor" console players, it would be easier to just say, "This event is open to all Elite Dangerous players", as the why it's worded right now has me and I'm sure others slightly confused!
😯😂😀🤘

Consoles are Horizons 3.8 so yes it includes you.

Hopefully you're right because as I said, if so, it was easier just to say it's open to all Elite Dangerous players - Anyway, hopefully it's something fun and good 😀🤘

Can confirm it's working on console too (XB) - with the caveat that after DSS-ing the planets you need to drop off to normal space to make the beacons and the settlements to appear
It worked the same way last year with the Winking Cat

[This event is open to Horizons 3.8, 4.0 and Odyssey Commanders]

In an experiment "for science" - I just took an alt account over to Guarijio using Horizons (3.8) and it most definitely is not open to that version. Neither the trial listening post nor the prospecting surface location turns up after mapping the planet / moon.

Oh, I just noticed the post two above this - I'll go check.

OK now I know there are some stupid things in this game but how on earth can this be good? You have to map, drop to normal space for the marker and settlements to turn up. How is anyone going to know this if they don't read post #162 in here?

I did not try this myself, just hinting ...

Did you try what @Northpin wrote? (italics by me)

Yes I did - I only saw that post after I had made my own post - but went back and edited, then checked in the game and edited the post again. Still think it is daft though.

No problem - I agree that this is far from being intuitive, but at least there IS a way 🙃

One way to find out is to communicate with other commanders in the region. I would guess there still should be some around.
Messing up your approach can be helpful, too, sometimes...

Well, it fooled me too at first. I scanned the first planet. Nothing. And i was heading to the second planet.
But then i was: "It cannot really be it's not working on Consoles, there would have been people fuming on the forums over this already... so what am i missing?"
And i remembered last year during the Winking Cat event it worked by dropping in normal space.
So i went on and scanned the second planet too, then i dropped to normal space and there it was.. both beacons and both settlements for the 2 already scanned planets.

So yea, either you remember how it used to work or you try stuff or you ask in the system chat or here on the forums 🤷‍♂️

Same here. Nothing in EDH 3.8 until I dropped to normal space. But I did it via relogski/frontier flop the first time. And there it was the first beacon. So I knew to emer drop or drop out of supercruise for the rest of the beacons.

If I remeber correctly what someone in the system told me, these are not normal beacons or settlements.
Our scanners can not detect them in supercruise. I take it they are somehow disguised.

This also happened with the Winking Cat sites, some people had to drop into normal flight and back into supercruise to get them to show up, including me. That was in Odyssey, so it's not just a Horizons thing.

Which is rather interesting - it means they were able to refine this generation/reveal of event assets (beacons, settlements, etc) in Odyssey to provide a seamless experience, but this refinement didnt make it back in Horizons.

Yes, good call, between then and now that does appear to be what has happened.

So, is that it? Just a whizz around a system and get a set of paintjobs? No further storyline?

Not very halloweenie is it?

Well Halloween isn't very Halloween really, it was created as a way for the Christians to try and cancel the Pagan new year.
It failed.

Certainly is, after scanning the beacons & settlements I docked at a fleet carrier, logged out & back in and there was the psychotic pumpkin paintjob.

I think you mean Samhain, which is the beginning of winter, whereas Imbolc is the beginning of spring.
Yes new year is Samhain but Halloween was derived from the Battle of Mag Tuired and the characters portrayed within the re-telling.
Admittedly there are many different interpretations of that story but as someone who has been a Druid for over 45 years that's mine 😜

I can assure you that in the Gaelic tradition in North West Scotland Samhain was never considered marking the start of the new year.
