Elite Dangerous: Horizons and Future Updates

*** Going atmospheric is a different league in coding and will need lots of resurces to create a proper atmospheric environment. FD will need money for keeping the development up and make the necessary steps one after the other towards the vision they have. I'm perfectly fine with two purchases and hope they'll do it amazing like the rest of the game so far! You'll not be disappointed either!

Mmmm...4/10 on the roleplay.

Too much overacting...try again. :p:D

agreed. I highly doubt FD will say "here's a planet with air, nothing more. Now pay". It's more likely that atmospheric landings will be bundled with appropriate content that makes landing in atmospheres have a purpose and worth the cost

Agreed on the too much overacting. Even so, it did not go far enough, a real member of the group we are not allowed to name, would have put in some flame bait to attract their enemies.

*** Well, what we have heard about phase 1 of landings is encouraging. It certainly seems to be more full featured than the minimum would have been, and we have seen those new slimmers today, that adds to it further.

Sorry, can't do the roleplay. You will have to just make do with honesty, and no hyperbole.

From DEV UPDATE 09/10

  • CQC (1.4) will be released on PC and Mac in September. PC version will follow 'one day' after XBox release ('fingers crossed, hopefully'). There will be lots of other new tweaks.

Now it has been confirmed that CQC will be released 6th of october same date as Xbox release

That's the plan.

I really want to be excited about Horizons, but I just can't shake the feeling it's going to feel barren and lifeless. By which I mean, not being able to exit the SRV is too limiting. I fear its just going to be ED in a different cockpit, while attached to the ground. How can you explore a hidden base in a vehicle? I hope I'm wrong!

Well you're not wrong in as far as you won't be able to exit the SRV, but I hope you are wrong about not feeling excited for it ;)

Update from iDigitalTimes article:

  • "Ships may not be getting much bigger but pilots can still expect meaningful changes to be introduced in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. Neither Frontier employee could/would elaborate but the duo did tease the possibility of bringing co-pilots into the equation. When asked whether or not we might finally see extra chairs being filled, either with AI crew members or other Elite: Dangerous players, Gapper smiled and complimented my "astute observation." ... "We're going to make people think about ships in a slightly different way." Dowie promised. [Link]

*heavy breathing*

Oh my, that is quite the hype train in bound. :D

Wow great find, that's worth it's own thread!

I see we have a firm statement that Horizons will have 4 drops.

It would be great if someone on the community team collated all the tidbits from interviews and put them in the newsletter. I wouldn't have to scour the forums and google.

4 drops a year makes for a reasonable dev clock, one per quarter. Christmas next year will 99% likely be another paid expansion, with a Beta test starting 1-2 months out. Curious what that will be, whether planets with atmo is less work than walking around ships.

I just re-updating my thread containing statements about new features planned for the future. Check it out if you have time: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=102649

(since I took a break updating the thread after PowerPlay, there is still a lot of newer stuff missing, but with the help of the other community members I hope to get the most important stuff in there)

Elite Dangerous: Horizons includes all Elite Dangerous content to date, and all players will continue to fly together in the same galaxy. Existing Elite Dangerous players receive a £10 loyalty discount off the price of Elite Dangerous: Horizons, retaining their progress and unlocking the exclusive ‘Cobra Mk IV’ in-game spacecraft.

Quick question, if I don't buy the Horizons update will my progress be reset to zero or something?

Small update:

here will be 4 expansions within the Horizons season. Link

That's great news! So how many are to add to/expand the core content/mechanics/occupations not really touched for a year now? (eg: Add more stuff to exploration [link], or to make Piracy a proper viable occupation. Are any of them including ship transportation [link] and multi-CMDR slots with CR transfer etc?) Or is all that coming in the next Season after Horizons? ;)
