Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous: Horizons patch 2.0.04

Some bugs take longer to fix simply due to the complexity and other outlying issues. In the development process, it goes something like this: Bug is posted on forums/Customer Support Ticket -> Bug is then inputted into our internal tracker -> QA investigates bug -> QA attempts to replicate bug -> QA sends replication steps over to engineering -> engineering attempts a fix for said bug -> Back to QA to validate or reject the applied fix in the code. If it fails, back to QA and Engineering loop. It's a long process. :)

So I assume the SRV exploding bug is proving difficult to replicate? The Distant Worlds expedition has been looking for a pattern and the only similarity we can discern is that it's like the invisible collision bug that happened during beta when flying away from space ports on surfaces. Except the SRV can suddenly lose >90% hull at any speed, on any surface, or even in mid air.

There is no SRV explosion bug! You take damage from relativley small bumps and rocks. It's just a matter of watching your hull and softening your landings with trusters while accepting you will take damage regardless.

Easily reproducible does not mean easily fixable.

Additionally, we have unique offices for the development of Planet Coaster and the development of Elite Dangerous. So no, the Elite Dangerous crew is not working on Planet Coaster, and the same goes vice versa. :)

HI Brett but seriously confused about the player faction update..said in newsletter that player factions would be updated in this yet nothings changed for the MMU to independent..I have forwarded an email to Zac..cheers

Thank you for the patch Frontier!

I hope you won't let the complainers and whiners get you down; you are doing great.
Oh yeah they're doing soooo great its been well over a month and now they're saying the RES crash fix is require a more involved fix then a patch update. So I think that is confirmation right there folks that RES sites will be broken untill 2.1 at the earliest. Sure glad I paid extra for the beta edition of Horizons an update that broke RES sites.

Please also consider:
Moving the mineral name display to another place that is not obscured by the SRV console.
Change the coordinates in the HUD to yellow (or white) from an orange that can't be seen on just about any planet surface.
Remember last plotted route when game is saved and then reloaded again on next game start.
Fuel and fuel scoop display wireframe to white, from black (as you often fuel scoop against a black background called space).

Thanks for all the hard work... game is fantastic!

It's good to see so many crash bugs being fixed, maybe now the "it's your machine that's broke" crowd will understand that just because they haven't crashed does not mean a player who does has a fault.

However it's sad to see nothing about the missions that are broke - seems we are being left with a lot of bugs while we wait for the pretty pictures of avatars to be added along with all the fluff that is supposed to bring.

Given that we represent just a fraction of the whole community and yet we have raised so many complaints about the state of the missions, I can only wonder at how the non forum users are fairing. I'll be honest and say I think that FD are making a mistake in not addressing this. The longer you leave the game like this the more it get's talked about on the web which is where it will stay, causing damage to ED's reputation long into the future.

Thanks!
Any ETA for these?
. npc ramming
. npc's forever blocking landing pads
. rapid repeating npc message loop
. npc roll of death (or whatever it is called)
. bugged missions
. horizons targets given to non-horizons players in multi-stage missions
. res crashes
. gfx glitches with nebulae

I've no idea why major issues like RES site crashes, spinning NPC's, and broken missions have not been fixed, to me these things seem paramount, I mean there's not even a mention of when these things will / should be fixed, which is what really annoys people.
Anyway, I'm not too fussed, I paid a tenner for ED @ xmas, and until they make a concerted effort to fix that, there's no way I would even consider forking out for any sort of expansion like Horizons, and I doubt i'm alone in that mindset.

At this point I'd like a clear explination WHY the RES crash is taking so freaking long to fix we've only been told "its under investigation" or "the fix for this is planned for the next update"(which apparently means major patches since its too involved for these patch updates) but never why this one is so hard to fix. They broke a major part of the game for well over a month and aren't explaining anything to us as to why its taking so long. The excuse people used when I brought up the bug around Christmas, that everyone is on holiday, isn't applicable anymore as its well past the Holiday season and Frontier seems more content to let game breaking issues sit unfixed while they work on more features that will inevitably add more issues rather than fixing the current ones. Probably because they won't get any news sites covering them fixing an issue, rather than full 2.1 update that is bound to get them coverage.

In the meantime, an easy fix would be to have NPCs say "Weeeeeeeeeeeee!" in the comm panel when they engage their rotisserie maneuver. ;)

Hehe, or "Boil me up, baby, Im all yours" :p Im sure all bugs will be fixed in due time, although some bugs which are "annoying" should be prioritized first. Game breaking or immersion breaking. In Frontiers defense I think the scale of the game are hitting them now, and bug fixing might not be so simple as we think, there is much code to go through and fixing 1 thing might change another thing, its gluing it all together which takes time. And if Frontier follow up their developing of the game as last year. Where in the background they worked on planetary landings, and during this work released CG, Wings, Powers, CQC and 1.5 ships. And fixed a lot of bugs with more. I expect to see something similar this season. Which of the major features they will work on this year is the big nugget to come in late summer this year. I expect nothing less this year. So 2 main concepts come into my mind. Landing on planets with atmospheres. A big undertaking if you see how many different types of atmospheres there are. What would they look like and how will stellar forge deal with atmospheres? Number 2 must be 1.person interaction, walking in ships, stations which also is a huge undertaking. But if they are going to follow up on SC which slammed all in one package, but in a smaller environment they need to get it on, although through seasons of expansions/updates. Remember Frontier has a smaller budget and staff, I think :p And during developing the next big thing they has promised us crafting/loot, engineers with blueprints, more synthesizing (I guess), multi crew, mission avatars and commander avatars, ship launched fighters and some sort of agency with modules for ships.
And during these big updates I think/hope all bugs will be adressed. They are so close to getting over the threshold of Elite truly being a full game now. The main picture has been puzzled now we need the surrounding frame to come into place. Its a damn big frame though.

Im not worried about bugs not being fixed they will have to fix these for the sake of their game and company. E.D is a gold mine for Frontier and if they can keep us fans pleased we will throw more money at them. But off course there will be hitch ups and a bumpy road, but we can endure. As long as we can speculate and be part of this Sci Fi heaven. :)
