Elite Dangerous in the Media thread

Wings stuff mostly, although there's acknowledgement that it's "a bit too grindy" and he does say they'd like to do more station interior variations but because it doesn't effect gameplay it's not a top priority.

Well, most important is that they have setup that way they can truly add that variety (stations are insanely modular). If that's coming later I really don't mind.

Clusters of stations with bulk carrier vessels stationed outside with shuttles ferrying goods to and from the station(s) would breath life into the universe too, as would shuttles going to and from the planet. It would start to resemble the concept artwork then.

I think this too! Just a bit more life and a bit less of a random spaceships feel.

Personally, I think it would be nice to have a system orrery view where you can watch the paths of spaceships as they fly through a system . Make the systems feel a bit more 3 dimensional and populated in interesting ways. The info is already there on the SC radar, but it's not something where you can really appreciate the liveliness of stuff.

Interview with David Braben in The Escapist. Mentions group on group combat exploiting heat/stealth, FE2's long gestation motivating "release early", asymmetric gameplay, more complex stations, as well as game financing and things you've already heard about the original Elite.

After everything David has said it's very hard to not think of Peter Molyneux every time he makes claims. Let's hope he delivers this time but, until he does, I'm not putting any stock in what he says anymore. Too many promises, claims and "visions" have not come to pass IMO to believe a word he says. I hope I'm wrong but, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm (like so many others) are still waiting for the "rich", "dynamic, ever unfolding experience.." David was so keen to sell as the reason to axe offline to come to fruition, it would seem to me that has withered on the vine.

Well, Elite: Dangerous has already delivered *FAR* more than Godus even seems able to relative to the promises given in the Kickstarter. There is very little comparison between the two. All I've got from Godus so far is a T-Shirt and an unplayable mess.

As another backer of both projects, there just is no comparison.

I see. So there's a limit to the amount of lies, broken promises and undelivered kickstarter rewards one has to reach before people start demanding answers or their money back. Please let me know what the cutoff is so I'll know when it's ok to call a liar a liar.

A liar is an liar, there's is no set limit how many you tell before you earn the label where I come from.

Most of these interviews are really just scripted Q&A to promote the game, game 'reviews' and 'interviews' sell copy which sells advertising. Im awaiting a proper reivew where the reviewer has actually played the game for some time and can highlight the good, the bad, the truly awful and the amazing. An inteview with DB where he actually gets asked proper questions, well Im not sure he is as stupid as PM to ever allow that to happen :)

Saying that, good PR and favourable 'reviews' promote sales which crates opportunity to turn ED into the game everyone wants, just wish they would hurry up about it :)

Media sites, game devs and publishers are all in it for money, one hand feeds the other and no one rocks the boat until they all agree someone needs to go, then it's ok to do the real questions on their way out. Like PM for example.

I will give you the kickstarter rewards (which are coming) ... Possibly one broken promise (that was not really a promise) .. But lies .. Come on really?

Anything other than the above is product of overactive imagination and hype.

Comparing DB to PM is an insult in every conceivable way.

That's your opinion. thank you. I'd say most of what David said was a result of over imagination and hype. As for "it's coming" that's exactly the excuse Peter used during the RPS interview so, he should get a pass too shouldn't he?

The difference being that the development of Godus has been reduced to two people, and in all honesty was DOA from the outset. Whilst there are some positives its mostly bad.

22 Cans have all but abandoned it, whilst ED is still FD's main focus. DB may be very passionate about the 'new' Elite to the point where he said things we currently dont have, but I personally do believe that ED will not just be thrown to the wolves.

Regardless, the fact that no one has been able to ask David about ANY of the current issues like: broken promises/lies (offline, dynamic, ever unfolding experience, rich multiplayer) the missing kickstarter rewards, missing boxed mercenary upgrade, missing ships, refusal to give refunds and much more IMO is just a sick joke.

Why hasn't anyone been able to ask these questions? Where is David now that the sales drive is all but over? What's the difference between David and Peter? The time? Both have used "it's not finished" or "it's coming" (well not David, he hasn't said anything really).

There's no accountability.

I would like to remind that derailing subject is kinda not ok in these forums and especially in sticked thread.

Subject is ED in media, not have David delivered what he promised.

Christ ... Take a chill pill ...

Take another example .. I backed Carmageddon Reincarnation when it came out on Kickstarter .. Do you know when they said it would be released (and you can check this on the kickstarter page) February 2013. Its only just gone in to Public Beta now! 2 Years after it was supposed to!

Does that mean that everyone at Stainless Games are liars and cheats? And they have somehow robbed people of their hard earned cash? No what it means is the game took longer to develop than they thought it would. Thats what happens when developing a video game!

Considering the time scales involved FD have done a fantastic job of getting us to where we are now .. Yes there is a lot more to do and get delivered but calling it a sick joke is bang out of order ... Sorry but you are dead wrong on this one. And thats all I am going to say on the subject, as Pecisk said, this is not the thread.

I disagree. Davids lack of answers IN THE MEDIA is on topic. Your welcome to your opinion and I thank you for them but, I disagree.

I didn't call everyone at FD a liar, just David.

EDIT: You can always use the "ignore" feature on the forum to avoid my opinions.

Okay all

Back on the topic of Elite Dangerous in the media.

Not "Elite Dangerous not in the Media"

and not "other games in the media"

and certainly not "let's all go baiting and sniping for a laugh"
