And this one acknowledged by DB in Tweeter: http://www.chalgyr.com/2014/12/elite-dangerous-pc-review.html : 9.75/10

Ha ha, that's actually really funny - he genuinely tweeted that "review" by a tiny, pretty much unknown, site by an obviously blinkered reviewer as if it was actually worth reading? Too funny!

I really hope DB and FDEV do not just heed the praise of those overly appreciative but that also look in detail at the criticism in other more balanced reviews and plan to act appropriately.

Quite so. The "review" is basically an advert. "With a little more work, after all, I would love to see more weapons, weapon types, ships (though, some 25 or 30 player ships are planned, only 15 are currently available), and station types out there, Elite: Dangerous will be absolutely perfect" - really, all ED needs is a few more ships, weapons and station types to achieve perfection?! The guy's clearly incredible easily pleased, deluded, or on the payroll! ;)

I didn't think that Chalgyr thing was an incompetent or shill review. That reviewer has obviously come in with little to no background, and either not heard about, or felt the need to get involved in, past controversies. Perhaps the game just chimed with them. It evidently does for some, or they wouldn't be racking up so many hours in game.

We can probably all list some unloved games that we would have given (unwarranted possibly) high scores if asked at the time, simply because there was something indefinable about them that agreed with us for whatever reason.

As for the paid review accusation, I am sceptical that FD are directing their limited PR budget and resources on schmoozing unknown bloggers to post up puff piece reviews. They probably want honest scores at this point. It's not like they want to fleece a few suckers and move on to the next Zoo Tycoon title, is it? They are in this for the long haul. Unearned praise will help nobody. On the other hand, I've seen a disgruntled offliner give this game a zero score on his Youtube review for no other reason than he doesn't like Frontier Developments any more. Which one is more worthy as a guide for potential purchasers? I have my thoughts on that, yours may vary.

my following words are based upon general observation through out the past half year...since i am certainly not a person who is involved in EVERY available media sorce, my pov might be off ...but ...

i think ED would deserve much more recognition all across the board...you barely read anything about it, and if you do, it´s mostly in a "comments battle" between SC and ED die-hard-fans... a few of my frequently visited online mags barely ever commented on ED..in fact, the first article i read about the game in a few months is about the recently appearing "money gone" database bugs... feels like there is no need to report anything about it unless its something bad...while with other games it´s a sensation when the developer eats a potatochip...

i wish the game would get more recognition for various reasons, most of all, making more people interested and boost the budget for future development (although more hype during the alpha/ beta phase would also have been good ..)

i also don´t quite understand why the kickstarter campaign of SC was THAT much more efficient, did those guys have a larger budget to begin with? were they more offensive with LARGE promises? i mean, genre wise both games should be activating mostly the same people, so why the HUGE difference in recognition?

well before i start drifting off into another topic, that´s it so far... i just feel like the resonance for ED is much lower than it would deserve, and certainly need... i wonder who has to be bribed to get that attention ;)

Review in the Guardian today. Love the first quote!

"Elite: Dangerous is quite big, in the same way that a black hole is a bit grabby."

Elite: Dangerous review – vast, beautiful and intimidating

Link seems to be broken?

Nah, he's been in it the whole while - "When I saw Elite: Dangerous for the first time, as it was trying to latch onto the success that Elite's rival Star Citizen had with crowd funding, I was instantly hooked"

As for the paid review accusation

That was a joke, intended to be pointed out by the winky smily. We all use smilies differently though so to be clear, that was tongue firmly in cheek... I actually think it was just an incompetent review! :D

TheRegister has yet to report anything good on ED, for some reason they seem to be reporting only negative information, some balance would be nice.
Quite a few comments on the article calling them out on it too (with responses from El Reg hacks getting very defensive). There's nothing wrong with reporting the issue, but they do seem to have some sort of agenda. I suspect it's simply that like any tabloid, they realise that baiting the community gets them clicks, and clicks are good when you're ad-funded.

Review from biggest slovakian gaming site: 85%
pros:
+ many options how to play
+ flight model and feeling from flight
+ graphics and authentic huge environment
+ solid content and future expansions
+ functionality and variability of ship equipment

cons:
- no campaign or story
- internet connection required
- some multiplayer options missing
- no planetary landings (even limited now)

Not entirely convinced the best way to get disinterested journos on ones side is to set fire to their comments section and insult them.

Could be completely wrong though.

Virtually all of the "professional" reviewers have written horribly dishonest and lazy reviews. Giving very high scores based on a momentary experience with the game is a disservice to everyone, especially those on the fence about buying the game. Then we wonder why the post beta crowd comes on here angry about the current state of the game. Tragic.

How do we know it's the good reviews that have only had "momentary" experience with the game? Maybe it's the other way around.

Excellent question. So far, I haven't seen a single "professional" reviewer give a bad score. There's plenty to be objective about (positive and negative), perhaps we'll see more honest reviews in the future.

For now, Metacritic (minus the 0s and 10s) AND this site would provide the most valuable insight as to the state of the game.

Well, "professional" or simply professional, I d say the trend in the press is clear. I may have missed some reviews and there are certainly a few more yet to come. But I reckon that, even if we weed out the extremes, there is very little to argue both in terms of a) score trends and b) most common review content themes, honestly. And probably a low chance for the current median or average of scores to move up or down by a lot going forward :
