As I said in other places - nonsense. If you like the game, you like the game. Don't like a fact that you grind? Don't play. Everything is a grind. All what matters is experience.

Nonsense that an awful lot of people agree with, it seems. But, wait, what's that? Do I feel the tremors of the "silent majority loving the game" argument being rolled out again? Yes, I think I do! :p

All that matters is the experience, you're correct there. And as has been said many, many times, the experience is lacking from what was hoped for/expected/promised (take your pick).

The guy in that blog/review actually likes the product in a lot of ways, he even says that. But what he says about its flaws are not untrue, whether you personally think they're an issue or not.

There are small group of people repeating all this, while arguments even don't make sense. But as I have no data to argue against or for...I guess it all comes down to our personal preferences and nothing more at the moment.

As for experience lacking...it is unavoidable for hype. I really wonder what people dreamed up during KS. Heck, KS never carried promises of 3D cockpit, TrackIR, OR, etc. etc. I have my personal grievances, but they have been minor and I like what I see at the core of the game.

What I hear is that ED is a grind. Well DUH. Elite *is* ultimate grind.

Again the reference to Eurotruck Simulator 2 - just in space. I've seen it several times now and I don't get it. Are reviewers overlooking the other stuff one can do in this game? Where are the bounty hunters, pirates, miners and explorers?

Reviewers (and journalists) like pigeonholes to put things in. At the moment any game which involves moving goods will be "Eurotruck Simulator". It's lazy journalism.

Everything except trading takes a back seat right now if you're "in it to win it" as it was the only real way to progress quickly in ED if that were your goal. It's how you approach the game that determines one's view.

Some are "in to win" others are "in to play". "Journalist" (and I use that term very very loosely) often take the "Xbox generation" view of things.

None of that is worth doing if you want to progress.

Progress?
Why do I need to trade to progress? I've not traded a sausage and I'm progressing, doing those things listed above and having a blast!
Are you under the impression that getting the most expensive ship is the aim of the game?

Define "progress". There are plenty of ways to "progress" in terms of personal enjoyment that doesn't involve getting the biggest pile of cash. If people just do things that gives them the most cash even if they find it "boring" (which is a bit dishonest to begin with since if it really was that boring they wouldn't be doing it) they kind of miss out on this whole playing a game thing. ;)

At a snail pace. In one day of trading I earned more than in two months bounty hunting before that. To transition from cobra to ASP I would need to grind bounties for another month. No, thanks.

No, it's people like you who are missing the whole playing the game thing. Many people play games to actually be good at them, in a measurable way, which games are made for in the first place.
