PC Gamer Mag

Elite Dangerous got a write up in the mag. I read it today. It was done pre release i think. The score in my opinion was a little low i would have given it more of around the 92 mark right now. The article was good to read though.
You can check it out at your local B&N store.;)

As the game is right now i'd give it maybe a 7. Nice for a week or two, but ultimately too shallow to bother buying right now. I mean...i bought the game on an impulse. I DID intend to wait until at least one dlc was out but i was frustrated by having nothing to play so i just went ahead ayway. Whether i regret my purchase or not will depend on what the game becomes within the next year. I suppose i already got 60 USD worth of gametime in it but i don't know.... if i could go back, i'd probably not buy it now.

I would give it an even lower score, but then I purchased the game for the offline, and the online restrictions I got saddled with really chafe. If I had to choose today, I certainly wouldn't have purchased the game.

Interesting thing, the game's userscore on Metacritic has been steadily falling. From almost 8, it has already fallen to 6.8, in the yellow range, based on over a thousand user ratings and over half a thousand reviews.

I would bear in mind that while there are many players thirsty for this kind of game, there are also many who struggle with games in which they are not spoon-fed content. Elite is a harsh mistress to gamers who are among the more passive variety. A large percentage of the gaming population are not willing or in some cases not capable of understanding what we get out of it. Much like the original, many people won't get it.

Of course I agree with concerns that it is a little TOO harsh for many casual gamers (I use that word not as a slur, like some), with it's token missions that modern gamers will look to and think "is" the content.

It's definitely a great game for a couple of weeks for most people. I brought five people from other games over to this, they all last one week, one of them lasted 10 days before giving up and going back to the other games. In our teamspeak we see an average of 25 new people per week that play for that week and then quit. I Keep logs of their names and check back after a week to see if they are still playing. It's a fun experiment, but shows that most people cannot play the game for more than a week or two at the most without quitting.

Of the die hards like me that have played more than a month, most admit that they wonder why they are logging in, or have to force themselves to log in just to see what everyone else is up to. Without the community and people to talk with on teamspeak I doubt they would have stayed longer than two weeks. And for some of us die hards (only about 5 of us are here every day) we all hang on to the hope that there is more coming.

The amount of accounts for sale also gives us a clue as to what is going on. Most are low end accounts with Cobra etc on them, and alot of them comment that they just could not get into the game after a week or so.

Same here. I haven't touched the game in two weeks. Maybe this will be good in a year, but I thought I was buying a fully fleshed out game from the start. Unlike you, however, I fully regret my purchase.

That's simply not true. People simply want good games regardless of whether they are "spoon-fed" or not. Look at how popular sandbox games are and scores they receive.
ED in the current state is simply not a good game. It has potential, but it needs complete overhauls in many areas that at the moment look like placeholders.

And while ED has bad tutorials and does extremely poor job of explaining its mechanics, it's fairly simple once you figure it out.

I would like to notice that many in media yesterday claimed ED is XBO exclusive. True, Xbox guy at stage used word "Exclusively", but that meant that PS4 is not released in sync with XBO. It doesn't mean that other console versions are ruled out. Just a side note.

IDK this xbox consol jazz has me feeling...bleh. It inevitably leads to dumbing down of game features and graphics to "make concessions" for the ubiquitous console folk.
Thats not what I want.

Gamespot has this article

Obviously it would probably mean so-called "timed exclusivity". Time will tell.

Microsoft used word 'exclusively'. That means within context of summer 2015, XBO is released exclusively, because for PS4 they need to do much more work before even announcing it.

So it is not legal exclusive or anything - just XBO version coming first.

Btw this was confirmed by Community Manager Edwards.
