You guys are just looking at my post count. As I focus on quality over quantity, my "post count" is still only Deadly while my forum "rank" (which can be read if you hover your cursor over the green circles next to my post count) has ascended to god like levels of Internet perfection! Thank you to all of you who have agreed and put me over the top:)

Now I'm going to take a short break and find some water to walk on.

You'll always be harmless to me Jason, hugs and kisses.

This is ultimately the biggest problem with FD's decision to support solo play. You end up having to design to give lone wolves the same opportunities as those comfortable with cooperation or pvp online. It's a waste of resources and time that could be used expanding the game.

Without appealing to different types of player a niche game like ED may never have been made.

Some things should just not be possible solo and that should be okay with those opting to play that way.

Or vice versa?

You see, herein lies the dilemma, which SOLO players didn't create. FD did. Yet MP blames "solo" all the time for it, rather than realizing it's the way it was designed that was the "problem" here.

So are you saying remove features available to Solo to bolster MP? And what should Solo players get in return for this?

Why not do the opposite and remove Open completely and focus on Solo?

Because it's not 1984. Elite Dangerous was designed as a multiplayer game.

Why not leave both options available, but focus on developing communication tools for multiplayer and content for solo? As stated above, content for solo benefits all, content for multiplayers don't really do it for solo players, including lone wolves in Open.

It's fine that some instances are so hard that they are best done in groups. But adding original content only for multiplayer? I'd prefer not to have to pay for that as I am very unlikely to ever use it.

:D S

Makes sense to me, all the predecessors were "Solo" games, and as Elite: Dangerous was kickstarter funded by the fans of that "Solo" franchise - I say keep them happy.

After all, there is a space MMO shoot'em up out there for those who want that style of play. No point in there being 2 space games exactly the same is there. Variety is the spice of life ;)

Exactly. Elite 1984 wasn't a "multiplayer" game, and nor were its successors. Elite Dangerous was never meant to be "EVE in cockpits", a "SC clone" or anything else of the like.

Surely it would be MUCH easier and take MUCH less resources to simply remove all multiplayer gameplay and make it completely single player than the reverse. No servers to worry about, no MP balancing, etc.

Trust me, guys you don't want to start down this path with debating.

Exactly, kick GSP, PvP out, drop PP, Multi-Crew and RNGneers and really focus on adding some sand to this sandbox.
Frontier have some talented writers on staff, currently having to write code or tweak AI when they could be letting their imaginations soar through the universe and making stories to thrill and excite the players.

It's such a waste having these people spending their time figuring out how to add content that wont favour any mode or upset GSPs, PvP'ers or PvE'ers.
It's like trying to solve a Rubiks cube blindfolded with the stickers messed up.

Let's just kick the MMO nonsense to the curb and get a real great game made.

I've been trying to be flexible, here... trying to talk some sense into people. Perhaps get them to be a little more "tolerant" but it's always coming back around to the same PvE vs PvP rehash...

So perhaps some logic and hard truth will have to do.

Or, perhaps, everyone could play their own damn game and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.
I have never seen such a community in 25 years of gaming where a small percentage insists on telling everyone else how they should be playing. And if not their way then you are wrong.
What is the origin of this video game arrogance?

Or you could actually give the players agency and let them create content with station building, expanding the bubble, minor faction wars with actual impact and consequence. A player economy that isn't just a faked background sim. Woah.

Maybe some logic and hard truth actually does work!

GL selling to the Multipew crowd who has consistently called to remove features from Solo and make them exclusive to Open on a regular basis.

How often have you seen the Solo crowd asking FD to remove features from Open and make them exclusive to Solo????

Direct your frustrations where it's intended- NOT toward players.

The thing is, we all want more content. The complaint of "Mile wide and an Inch deep" has been around as long as I've been playing.
But how are we supposed to get more content when Frontier has to deal with;

  • Ram griefing in station hatch ways
  • Servers failing because a private group got too large due to no PvE mode
  • Endless complaints due to mode invasions
  • Deal with griefing in Multi-Crew
  • Having to trace cheated modules from Engineers and removing them

This is just off the top of my head. And it all has "MMO" plastered all over it.
Some people will never play well with others and go out of their way to disrupt development of a game if they don't like it or they don't want to share it.

We can get more sand in our sandbox, if we just kick the MMO side out which solves all GSP issues.
PvP'ers will have a reason to use CQC/Arena and Frontier can make quality content for the game without having to worry about upsetting anyone.

I ran into a great PvP player once.....Was a C.G. combat bonds, bountys or something, so in Open I grab my vette (Christine) and head on over ( not the best idea I've had) Now I been back and forth to the closest station for repairs a few times. I feel like a god at this point.

So I head back to collect more after 45 mins I'm about empty on all guns and notice a few flies hitting me so I send a few shots to say bug off. Then boom this Vette is now checking me out. I'm all out of ammo shields down to last ring and no banks left so I try and book it.

He said he'll no to that and fired uncountable pack hounds at me. Over 5k hull I am not to worried and keep boosting out. Then she shuts down and I'm like fuzz It. Not even gonna reboot.

He asked me why I never logged, with a smile and heart pounding I just said ya got me plain and simple, and ya got me when I was in haz res for 45 mins. Few seconds pass he said I would of had ya even at full strength and flew off.

Shocked and broken windscreen I head back to station and repair. Now repaired I go for quick smoke come back and say do I head back out again...... I did and guess who was waiting for me in a different build and ship with a wing mate?

Yup same guy....this time I get message ....all feds will die... as I'm about to leave system i get pulled out and destroyed in mere seconds. Still to his day was the most heart pounding fun I've ever had in a game.

Still some nice PvP players out there he didn't have to let me live... was my choice to go back when I new the threat was there. Just had to share thanks for your time hope you enjoyed the short story.
