Elite: Dangerous Legacy League

CDPR literally just pointed out in their announcement about doing their best to help with mod compatibility in the new update, how they know this is important to players who've constantly come back to it since first playing it, as that game hasn't see a patch in 6 years. And that's a game it's a lot easier to see and do every possible thing in.

Good point. I never thought they would go the option of servicing 2 galaxies. Never seen frontier do more work and solve all their problems before, usually they just make their cut without a care to who falls of the table. Lesson is to be positive about making everyone happy rather than being toxic at anyone who doesn't agree with frontier flawlessness. Its just a bit more work to make everyone happy!

It's old school. Learn to love it! ;)

Even though INARA does not currently supporty Legacy, EDDB does. Just check: https://ross.eddb.io/eddn/log/1133785492

This is my recent market info collected by EDDiscovery and send to EDDN and processed by EDDB.

Based on my observations, as long as the BGS states agree in Legacy and Live, market information is the same.

There was a problem with BGS directly after the U14 launch, but it seems to be stabilizing now. More testing is required to confirm it.

Nevertheless, as long as Legacy players use the third-party feeder tools (like EDDiscovery, ED Market Connector, etc.), EDDB should be able to provide actual information.

And here is a problem. Based on the EDDN stream, either the number of Legacy players is minimal, or most of them stopped feeding information required by the third-party tools like EDDB.

Players stats collected over two last hours:

loaders:767 ----- 4.0.0.1475: 99.87 | 4.0.0.1400: 0.0 | 4.0.0.1201: 0.0 | 3.8.0.1400: 0.13

You need to be running an U14-supporting version of the desktop tool - gameversion support was being prepared by the EDCD folks already as a "nice to have" but rather hurriedly finished off when this was announced. Still about 1-in-6 seem not to have upgraded their desktop tool yet, which might include those more likely to be staying on 3.8 as well? Hard to say

For now that should be correct, though they've hinted that it will change in Live due to the wider effects of the Thargoid war.
(It also wouldn't be exactly the same for heavily-traded commodities at busy stations, but almost all aren't)

Would be interesting to know exactly what percentage of players are still on it.
By EDDN version information, basically none, as sathlei mentions. So even if a site did support Legacy for displaying that information it wouldn't have a lot to work with.

In game ... when I've compared station traffic reports between the two in a system likely to be busy in both, it looked like a bit over 80% in Live - since console players used to be about a quarter of total activity, that might be almost all console players (it would explain why seemingly about three PC Legacy players have updated their desktop tools) and essentially "almost everyone who can play on Live is"

You are absolutely right! Legacy players need to upgrade their feeder tools in order to allow third-party sites to remain useful for them.

So what are you waiting for? ;)

Fdev is throwing the console users under the bus again and trying hard to kill Horizons 3.8, stopping support and renaming.

Funny tho that Horizons 3.8 is the better version with better performance, better lighting, better UI, full VR support, planet tech with mountains and deep crevasses.

The console players without a pc are totally being dumped on as their version is being killed.

Ok. I've just been online to add the cmdrs who I understood wanted to register.

Legacy enlistment so far:
  • cmdr milesred
  • cmdr x (on my friends list already, but haven't been active in 58 months?...)
  • cmdr mandokiin
  • cmdr stubadub
  • cmdr trolly mctrollerson (not found)
  • cmdr q
  • cmdr max gordon

I will update the OP with the enlistment, and try to keep it updated as long as this thread floats. :)

Hope to see a few more green icons on the galaxy map from now on. :)

Be safe commanders 07

So elite on console is dead then? That's a shame. I got the impression from social media there was quite a strong playerbase there. Wait did they even contribute to 3rd party data? Poor frontier. So much blood sweat and tears only to get back to year 2 horizons in the public eye. Wonder if they'll ever restore elite development to more than a skeleton crew. There's still so much they could do with the game. Finish off the remaining 2/3's of space legs (eva, ship interiors, boarding).. gas giants..

But, of course, like frontier, i won't be making that mistake of fantasising about this game either. Its done as is, and all i expect is trickle as it arrives. Im happy, frontiers happy, not screwing that up again.

And yeah, no further changes or development for console Elite (though from the perspective of this thread which thinks 3.8 is better than 4.0, that's a good thing, I guess?)

Depends on your view of things.

If you honestly could not run the odd client, every attempt you tried anyway made it clear that something you in enjoyed was literally about to be turned off. Imagine this for yourself. The large part of the problem was frontier never taking ownership of the issue and directing pc players to get an upgrade and correct the system requirements. This left everyone in the situation where there was an open expectation and a gap of guaranteed failure from the software. Explains the mostly negative. Having said, i also take this as frontier must have had every intention of getting odd to somehow function under its requirements... but at some point couldn't do it and instead changed course to create legacy and live so that everyone on ever platform is still covered.

Anyway it was probably just overambition from the graphics improvements from odd. Everyone views this differently today. Now that i can run it, i think its amazing. Yet it created a situation of real poverty for anyone running less than a 2070 so that isn't fair and should be at least acknowledged by frontier.

The other part is the proc gen planets. The final iteration of the planets had a beauty that is tangibly missed by the random texture rotations so id probably say the planets from space are better in horizons.

There are so many details you could compare the two with.. so i guess in theory which one is better is the wrong question. Its more of the fact that the graphics upgrades couldn't be scaled down so by need there's now a legacy version.

EDD has updated twice. More updates are probably due in the next week. It's a rapidly evolving environment for 3rd party tools.

I've noticed multiple EDDiscovery updates around the U14 launch and I'm grateful for keeping the app relevant in this turbulent times :)

As for the evolving environment, it seems Live may require introducing some serious new functionality, while available data (journals, API) seem currently quite limited.

Reading the comments so far, I think the title of this thread should be changed to "Odyssey Moaning League". LOL
Far from it actually.
As long as I still have access to Legacy I will have nothing to moan about .
If Odyssey ever introduces some form of game play I find I would enjoy over Legacy and maintain the immersion then I would just jump over to Odyssey and make use of the copy of Odyssey I pre-ordered and carry on.
So far FD have made such a F---up with Odyssey I am grateful to them for giving me a true purpose to not abandon my preferred Legacy Planets.

Fly safe CMDR Q!!!!

A few quick ones re. 3.8.
  • Can't access my NPC wingman, on usual key 3 I get some zoom-in instead crew list. So, where's my copilot?
  • No more engineers and material traders ("need Horizons")? Not that I need them, just checking.

Btw atm refueling with Tritium at Promium Relay some 5,5k ly from Colonia. Will detour north to Sag A, dwell there a bit and than finish in Colonia.
