Elite Dangerous : Money Grinding and number crunching.

I've been making anywhere between 15-20K/ton recently. Only done a couple of runs, made 3 million. Rare commodities, anyone?

Or you can forget about mindless grinding and kit out a Viper/Cobra and go have some fun.

Agreed, I've been outfitting my cobra and running rares while exploring systems, with occasional bounty hunting mixed in. People need to learn to enjoy the experience instead of stressing over how much money they make on a game.

26.5 million will get you a T7 with a A5 FSD, as much cargo space as you want, and have enough left to fill it with goods to start trading. You can get it with a B5 FSD for about 3 million less, if you desire. There was a post on reddit with more details, if you want to go read that (I don't have the link handy, but a google search should turn it up for you).

Thanks i've got a type 7 A5 FSD and 232 slots currently since my original post - Cheers!

The best money i can make is ~Cr2450/Ton in a 17LY round strip (2 stars) in ~11 mins (~270k)
Bounties for AI / anaconda's are pitiful @ 150k and takes ~30 mins.

Is there a more efficient way of making money that i'm not aware of ?

I own total assets of 16.6m Cr. (ASP/Viper + Money) If i go for a Type 7, i will need a ton of money ;

  • I need money for ship insurance (1m)
  • Upgrades will cost a fortune (The A4 FSD is 5m on the ASP alone!)
  • I need 3m Cr for supplies to trade after the purchase.

Estimated 16m credits once i've bought the ship, or 11hrs of non stop back and forth money griding - i'd rather watch paint dry.

I cannot think of any other way of making money faster than i am.

HELP!

What's the rush?

Here we go again. The goal is not to make money. The goal is to have fun while trying to reach elite in all three categories. Making money is only a method of achieving trader elite status. That still leaves combat and exploring. Combat is most fun in a small, relatively cheap ship like the viper. Exploring can be done in anything but best done in an Asp. Again relatively cheap. The people with their head screwed on are out exploring because they are picking off the low hanging fruit. If you spend 6 month trading then another 6 months fighting you will have to go a long way to find unexplored sytems
This is a sandbox, his goal is whatever the hell he wants it to be.

I think I made 1.5-2mil an hour mixing rare + regular goods in 6+ systems.
Now with my ASP I will try to mix rare + regular + bounty hunting

Based on my calcs 270k/11 mins it would take me 25 days @ 4hrs per day (i work) of non stop back and forth mundane trading to buy the STOC anaconda.

Is that all? 25 days... jeezo man you complaining that the game might take more than 5 seconds to get the most expensive and largest ship? I seriously dont get this point of view.

Play for fun not for e-peen "i have a conda".

You've clearly never played games like War Thunder or STO where the grind is like 1000x worse than elite... try easily 2-3 months on a free account in War Thunder to UNLOCK (never mind buy...) your FIRST top end jet on ONE nation... there's 5 nations and they add another half a dozen planes every few months to extend the grind... understand now?

Or STO where it takes somewhere in the region of ~300 hrs to get a maxed out top rank ship with the best gear (and the "best gear" or "best ship" changes every season)...

"25 days @ 4 hrs a day" is literally nothing mate. Take my War Thunder example: I have over 730hrs in that game and still don't have all the planes and tanks unlocked (never mind purchased) but I don't play2grind... I play to have fun. These types of games are not really designed for you to finish playing after "completing the game" as you can't "complete" them... just play for fun man.

My best route is ~250k cr/~100tons in a 3-system loop taking ~20min. Extraction/industrial/agricultural with silver/marine equip/tobacco respectively.

Good spawning RES + PowerPlay (ALD) + KW Scanner + Best Equipped Python just gave me:

27mil that can be cashed @ local station
14mil that should be cash in Federal and Alliance system

41mil in total, all in four hours of Bounty Hunting, and that happened while ALD is at 2nd rank. Can get about another 2.25mil more if ALD is at the 1st rank of Galactic Powers

in that four hours, my dangerous rank was increased about 7%

Combat bond giving 2-3mil / hour, but my rank can move up faster.

I'm in complete agreement with those saying you're doing it wrong. After all that grinding any ship short of a star destroyer with a complimentary Darth Vader bobblehead is going to feel like a colossal disappointment. Just play the game, try out the various starships (they are all very different in how they fly, look and sound), do different things. Treating the game like a race to an anaconda is how you end up hating it.

Dude, dont try to "improve your profits" any more! If you keep grinding like that, you will have every ship and you will hate the game for the "grind", before the end of march! Stop trying to "win" the Elite, you will hurt yourself. Go have fun.

Wisest advice anyone will ever get about Elite.

Stop thinking about profits or credits per hour, or the next ship after the one you've got.

That way you will never enjoy the game or the ships you fly during the gaming time, as you will always be completely focused on the flow of virtual money, the numbers.

And guess what: if you think the more expensive the ship the more fun you will have, you're in for a big disappointment...

I can make 3 million in per hour in a res. Thats 50k per minute. 550k for the 11 minutes for your run
