Elite Dangerous 'New Launcher' live today!

If you installed your original version on steam, but then bypass steam when you normally launch the game - it will install the new version in a different location than the steam version. Then - when you try to launch from your normal shortcuts - it will still (obviouly) be trying to load the old launcher from the steam installed folders. SO - in order to update the launcher properly, you MUST use Steam to launch it and up date the steam installed launcher.
If you then use the newly installed launcher - it will NOT find the steam installed game and immediately prompt you to install the game all over again.
It should have been made very clear in the first place that one MUST use steam or epic to launch the game if that is how it was initially installed. As in - if you installed it initially with steam, then one must use steam to install the new launcher.
Some folks bypass steam because they have multiple accounts. Those are the people who would be most effected by this little dilema.

Now that's something I wasn't expecting, wasn't needing, wasn't wanting, and it went about as badly as I expected.

First, it defaulted to my geo-location language. In the most poorly translated way, with untranslated words mixed in, and lots of typos. It isn't even my system language. And I have no idea on where to change that. I expected that by now developers had already learned to not impose language on user, and instead, give a prompt asking to select one at the start or make it easier to see where you can change. If anyone knows, please, let me know. I just can't stand it.

Second, the version selection for install/uninstall doesn't make explicit that deleting one might delete another. In trying to save space, I deleted what I thought was a legacy version (that I don't play), and lost the Odyssey installation altogether, and I'm now currently waiting the long download and installation. Worse part, I didn't backed up my control scheme, so now I'm also hoping that I won't get ducked on that end.

Please, don't do that again. Not anytime soon.

Settings are in the pull down menu with downward arrow next to where it says connected as.

No, it's just that you need to use Steam whenever you're installing anything (the game or its updates). You don't need Steam to launch the game though.

I have to say, there was nothing wrong with the old launcher. You've updated the launcher purely for the sake of updating it.
Now there's no news, no store dlc and it looks more like Star Citizen. GG. I hope you're happy (you aren't, you'll update it again for sake of updating it, you'll never be happy with it).

At least we got a really low quality launcher.exe icon...

I must say, I would have much preferred that the time and "effort" that went into this would have been much better spent fixing the misaligned docking port hologram and the off kilter DC approach.

Used to be all sacrifices had to be made to make the console players happy.

I guess now it must be that all things must bow to the needs of the Steam launcher...

True, min-ed-launcher is working, but only if I launch it via Steam, so it's only a partial solution.

I'd like to know what doesn't work with it if you don't mind sharing. Same goes for anyone else having problems with the min-launcher. Feel free to PM me or start a new issue/discussion on github so as to not muck up this thread.

I think I have a temporary work-around for now; given the launcher problem I presented here:

The new launcher is completely broken for me; I can not log in at all. It recognises the account linked with Steam, and after choosing to log in with Steam I see just the following for some 10–15 minutes:

After which this occurs:

Unless there is something very easily corrected here, this change needs to be reverted completely, then perhaps presented again alongside the option to continue using the previous, properly-working means of running Elite.

Very much thanks to @Ultra Fluffy I now at least have Elite running by applying the Steam options hinted here:

@sallymorganmoore
The /autorun and /autoquit option do not appear to be working properly from Steam. I run from Steam with the options "/AUTORUN /AUTOQUIT /NOVR". The game auto runs, but the launcher does not show the full launcher page and when you exit from the game the launcher does not auto quit. If you then click on the "Login in with Steam" button, the launcher quits.

Regardless of whether some of said options may be misbehaving, adding them to Steam in the first place actually got it working for me. The launcher still crashes as above without them, though—my suggestion is still to provide both in the meantime.

Would be nice to have a possibility to add a second and maybe third account too.
This would make it easier to switch between them without logout and verify the accounts when switching between them.
I have a main account for playing and a second one for starting from scratch from time to time.

I couldn't find the corresponding Commitments gif, so I'll spell it out instead: "It's 'Ride, Sally, Ride' not 'Roid, Sally, Roid'".
All you want to do is sally forth, rider -- sally, rider, sally."

...or maybe we won't face the thargoids with cavalry... or soul riffs from the trumpeters...

Every time there is a game update, loads of posts show up about the launcher freezing up/doing nothing instead of downloading it.
I'm really surprised this hasn't been mentioned before now - they're obviously pushing the new launcher out now before U16 drops next week to fix these issues.

Why is there an extra button click now? Every single time it asks me "Log in with Steam". Yes, of course that's what I want. Same as the last 4 times. Stop asking and just log in automatically.

I don't see anything on settings to get it to just behave and not be so neurotic.

i can confirm min-ed-launcher is working fine with Epic. I logged in once via the new launcher then just had to put the bootstrap.exe back into the game folder and rename it to edlaunch.exe again after the update.

If I launch ED launcher over steam and log in with steam I can scroll down and see the extra content like paintjobs, galaxy status ...

If I launch ED launcher with standalone launcher without steam I see no content when scrolling down.

I like the new launcher but think there is still something that needs to be fixed ;-)

I'm getting a message "client installer isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust client installer.
Then says download cancelled?

LOL - are the launchers STILL at hosting.zaonce.net? I'm kinda surprised FD are even aware of that, let alone continue to support it. It always feels like I'm getting my launcher from a dodgy bloke in Kings Cross when I go there.

zaonce.net belongs to FDEV:

registrant was some bloke called David Braben

There should be something in the downloads window to "keep anyway", and then something similar when you get the same issue with trying to run the installer -- I guess FDev do not have their certs in order, at the moment, for this one. :7
