If you installed your original version on steam, but then bypass steam when you normally launch the game - it will install the new version in a different location than the steam version. Then - when you try to launch from your normal shortcuts - it will still (obviouly) be trying to load the old launcher from the steam installed folders. SO - in order to update the launcher properly, you MUST use Steam to launch it and up date the steam installed launcher.
If you then use the newly installed launcher - it will NOT find the steam installed game and immediately prompt you to install the game all over again.
It should have been made very clear in the first place that one MUST use steam or epic to launch the game if that is how it was initially installed. As in - if you installed it initially with steam, then one must use steam to install the new launcher.
Some folks bypass steam because they have multiple accounts. Those are the people who would be most effected by this little dilema.
