Is it Massive?
Stop right there. Please. And read what has been said before instead of perpetuationg the same fallacies. There is nothing massive about the multiplayer functionalities of Elite.
Is it Massive?
Is it Massive?
Is it Multiplayer?
Don't separate those since those words meant to be together.
Massively Multiplayer means massive numbers of players playing simultaneously the game, and able to interact with the others. So ED is not a MMO.

It's a MMO because a large number of players play in the same universe.
But they can interact with the others. They aren't funnelled together to make that likely, but they can and do.
There are massive numbers of players playing simultaneously online, so I'm really not sure how this is so confusing to you lot :S
Oh in that case I'm still right everyone who plays Elite Dangerous still connects to a SINGLE UNIVERSE, whether they are in solo, private group or open, just because they are in a different instance than you does not make this any less true, and just because you cannot chat or trade with them does not mean they are not there, so in that case even if you roll all 3 letters into a single word, that being MMO, this is still a MMO in it's core and most basic features.
Oh and originally MMO used to be used as M.M.O as in 3 separate words that slowly over time ended up becoming a single word, which is surprisingly misused by a lot of people.
I never said the multiplayer was massive smart alec.
I asked is the game massive, you automatically decided I was asking if the multiplayer was massive which I never did, nor did I imply.
You quite simply do not understand what massively multiplayer means. Massively does not mean the same thing as massive... that's why there's those extra letters at the end.
Arguing this point is ridiculous and anyone who's ever played ANY mmo in their entire life knows the difference between the two and when a company tries to label a multiplayer game as an mmo. There is a distinct difference that 95% of the people who play online games are aware of and understand.
Nothing you say or do will change what has already happened. You can argue all day the technicality of the acronym but in reality it does not mean what you think, it never has, and never will. ;P

omg I can't believe you are still claiming that this is no MMO. Even Braben himself clearly said it is a MMO in newletter 50.
By your logic the same is true of Farmville so I guess you believe Farmville is an MMO?
Logic suggests your reasoning is flawed. Give it another go.
I like how apparently you're the ultimate arbiter of what constitutes an MMO.
Or at least you think you are.
I happen to disagree.
ED is an MMO.
The game is online.
The game is multiplayer.
The game infrastructure supports the playing of the game by players, online, in a persistent world, in far greater numbers than a conventional online multiplayer title.
You might not like how ED delivers the MMO experience and that is fine. I'm confident I'd probably agree with a lot of your criticisms.
It is, however, an MMO.
There is a maximum of 32 players in any one instance. Battlefield 4, which would never dare to profess to be an MMO, allows up to 64 per instance. I figure you must have a completely different idea of what Massively means to the standard definition.*
So what, Everquest has a limit of 30 players on any instance. Is that also not a MMO for you?
Braben has said this is a MMO. It is a MMO, deal with it.
