I'm glad they are being more open in communication. But I seriously doubt their capability to make this half as cool as people seem to think it is. I mean we have Fleet Carriers coming out and they are already pretty useless or not compelling gameplay and are credit sinks designed to bilk people. (Going from what we saw in Beta 1 and 2.)

And yet we forget all of that with a half way shiny teaser trailer. I will believe it when I see it.

Gotta say I feel the exact same, yet I still want to believe they might actually get it, at aleast, reasonably right this time... c'mon at least a little close to being somewhat enjoyable? (plz Frontier :v)

Personally I'm hoping they roll Horizons into the base game rather than roll it into the expansion. It would make the base game more appealing to new players and, from a development perspective, allow for a much easier development going forward.
That would probably work better now that you mention it, and seems pretty likely.

The only thing I'd like to know is what FD means by "in engine footage".
They made a cinematic trailer using the engine, and in no way will reflect what the game will be, or is it supposed to reflect what we'll see as a player?
Yeah the first one. It's essentially Elite Odyssey machinima.

Now, I'm going to speculate optimistically here.

So, in order to get out of our ships, we'll need to go through them, right? So that means walking through the ships as well.
UNLESS it's done like how SRV and SLF boarding is done - fade to black cutscene (which would be totally lame)

If social hubs... which means buildings... does that include starports? Are they so far removed?

So I'm hoping this includes both walking around ships and ports. Would love to walk around the Squirrel's Nest

I'm pretty sure they'll try to make the classic fade that happens both for the SRV and the fighters, It's pretty lame and absolute garbage indeed, but if they were to actually let us walk inside our spaceships, they'd have to remove those fading transitions for the SRV and the fighters...and yeah, I highly doubt they'll do that after the state in which fleet carriers came out and how useless they still are :/

(just plz Frontier play your own game, it needs far more detail to be enjoyable in the long term. I don't even care if I have to pay 60€ for each expansion or if I have to wait 2 years for each one to come out, just make it truly enjoyable and I'll buy it at any price tag)

Well, finally a snippet about it... nice :)

Question I got in my head :
Combat is mentioned (obviously, to be expected)...
...so what about EVA (Space), Tasks on Ships (i.e. Hack or Repair), other non-Combat activities on Planets and especially : Exploration ?

It's a tad hinted to (set foot on unexplored Planets) at least, so that's something to look forward to.
Yes. I wonder if this will be a thing at all. Until further notice I'm going to assume this is essentially a person-shaped SRV, with all the same attendant limitations and caveats. If they have zero-G activity or in-ship activity or ship boarding or any kind of seamless avatar navigation working right now, I would have expected them to use some of it in their trailer, because the type of activity they do demonstrate in the trailer is extremely cookie cutter generic.

We're getting atmospheric flight as part of this? It sounds like this will be for uninhabited worlds only — no ELWs or major population centers?
Seems like at the very least we're getting micro atmospheres, with a different skybox, and planet surfaces otherwise unaffected, but what there is beyond this is anybody's guess. If the type of planet exhibited in the teaser represents the full extent of what we're getting, then I doubt there will be any revisions or additions to the ship flight model besides maybe some additional "atmospheric entry" graphical flourishes during Glide Mode. If we're getting full atmospheres (as in enough to affect planetary surface characteristics with changing weather, caves, histories of erosion and such), then it's reasonable to hope for a corresponding update to the flight model, although I personally wouldn't expect it even then.

I'm interested in the fact that FPS gameplay and engaging with ships in a new way is mentioned within the same announcement. I'm wondering if it will bring extra gameplay mechanics to board enemy craft after disabling it.

However this means mechanics will need to exist where it brings ships to a stop, even if the target ship is FA off.

Which also means said mechanic doesn't mean ship-to-ship combat as it stands isn't changed, since that would mean knocking out the Powerplant / Drives will definitely mean instant death.

So many things to think of!

I would be suprised if they've shown every detail of the update in this vid.

It'll probably be based around highly specialized single-use modules and engineer special effects; you'll build a ship loadout specifically for bringing ships to a stop and boarding them, and in so doing will be unable to equip your ship to do anything else.
